I saw the comments and was expecting some sort of weird abomination for Ganondorf but it wasn't really all that bad. Am I missing something? >_>

Zack looks less like Cloud in his pic. Underperformance imminent.

People who vote for Zack because he looks like Cloud are losers! Much better reasons to vote for Zack than this!

Ganondorf looks like the guy who farted in the elevator and is trying not to laugh about it so no one knows it was him.

Ken>Ganondorf...Possible? I mean, look at that abomination!
...Ganondorf would probably still win even with a CD-i picture, but Ken has a chance to prove that he is not so horrible now and at least look good. Like 30%?

I really don't like the framing of the pictures.

That said I think I have one great rally push in me -- and I'm going to rally for Ken I think. Now that rallying is allowed of course. I will also obviously be rallying for Ezio. But Ken is more important to me as a character and I hope he can pull it off.

Also wouldn't it be awesome if Sonic broke 70% on Knux?

The picture framing is hit-or-miss with me. It just depends on the picture chosen. Honestly, for Luigi, as much as I don't like the picture, the framing worked for him, and it worked for Ammy, so it was a good pic. Link/Alucard was pretty good, and it worked for them. It's got to be a pretty simple picture for it to work though. Anything too over the top and it looks bad.

I was very happy with the Zack pic, because I knew the buster sword would be hidden by the Round 2 Frames. Good old Crisis Core pretty boy shot ^_^

And hey, picked my Ryu H. Even though I have MC winning, it would be great to see the Super Dragon Ninja pull this off.

The latter isn't true. Boss SFF'd the hell out of Raiden and may have actually won the match if Raiden wasn't there. In a 3way and with a Snake pic, Boss would have cleaned house.

Fact/Fiction: Sonic breaks 60% on Knuckles (or I guess we should ask if you think Sonic is going to SFF Knux)

I have a feeling Knux is going to rSFF Sonic. Sonic is being hated big time, and in an inter-franchise match like this, I believe Knux can take advantage of it. 55% for Sonic max.

Fact/Fiction: Ganondorf doubles Ken

Pretty close. I'm going to guess a little under, but it will still be a pretty strong showing for Ganondorf.

I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've had that problem with him.

It's not much different from this:

http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/gallery/albums/cb7/cb7-33.jpg

Round 2, Has Big Boss pic. Dies along with Raiden.

Big Boss still got 45.40% on Kirby in that round with Raiden obviously hampering him. He probably does better with a Naked Snake pic, but it's pretty obvious that Big Boss is pretty beastly in any form now.

MC could easily beat MC. They're on the exact same tier and MC gets anti voted a lot.

Thing is, it's a day match (or so I believe) and Halo is getting Reach soon (lots of news coming out about it) and new maps or something for ODST (again, I believe). He should be pretty safe, but anything could happen in that match.

I agree with this. Also, Kirby's first round match with Rikku looks bad if you take the vote-ins at face value, because going through Rikku and Frog, they imply he gets like 43% on Bowser now.

Anyway, time to finish grades!

Midgar Division Grades

Cloud Strife - This was a pretty bad performance for Cloud, but I don't think it's quite as bad as everyone else thinks it is. I think the fact that Ridley has a picture that doesn't look like a red streak of nothing helped him a good bit. Still a pretty sorry showing for Cloud though.

Grade: C-

Ridley - He did a lot better than most people expected or that he reasonably should have. Was this all FFVII anti-voting or just Ridley benefiting from a good picture for once? Time will tell.

Grade: B

Chris Redfield - He doubled up Swamp Thing, but I wasn't particularly impressed with it. After how well RE5 has done in this contest, I honestly expected 70%+ for Chris because MacMillan is trash. I thought he could do better than this, but that's just personal expectations though. It wasn't that bad.

Grade: C

Captain MacMillan - Nothing really to say about this guy other than the fact that it's sad that this guy will probably become a contest regular with how popular Call of Duty seems to be nowadays.

Grade: F

Riku - Only getting 62% on a guy who barely beat Laharl and lost to Hogger is pretty bad. He had a great morning vote though, which saved him from the embarrassment of getting less than 60% overall. He gave Captain Falcon pickers hope for next round.

Grade: C-

Ramza Beoulve - Unfortunately, last year may have been Ramza's best chance of ever getting to round two, and after blowing it against Hogger, he's basically stuck with being a first round punching bag for midcarders. Oh well.

Grade: D

Captain Falcon - After Riku underachieved, Captain Falcon had a chance to establish himself as a solid favorite with a strong performance against Wander, who was one of the contest's weakest characters both years of 4-ways. Well...he didn't. He only got 71% and made me feel like he relinquished favorite status back to Riku because I'd have to think Ramza beats Wander pretty easily. Falcon can still win, certainly, but underperforming against the worst of fodder characters certainly isn't inspiring.

Grade: C-

Wander - He got nearly 29% on a character who actually may not be fodder. That's better than I would've figured Wander could do.

Grade: D+

Leon Kennedy - While I think this match was more Vault Boy impressing than Leon disappointing, I also think that it proves that, even with a general RE boost, Leon's still not going to compete with Leon/Ryu in round 3.

Grade: C-

Vault Boy - I was very impressed with Vault Boy. I had no idea he could be strong enough to get nearly 40% on a solid midcarder and basically showed that he was actually a low midcarder himself. Definitely a guy worth bringing back next year and could create an intriguing matchup with someone like, say...Donkey Kong or Kefka.

Grade: B+

Sackboy - I was impressed with how easily and how handily Sackboy won this match. He might have shown himself to be the strongest PS3-exclusive character (Well, there is the LittleBigPlanet on PSP, so maybe I should say this-gen Sony exclusive) out there. Sackboy vs. Nathan Drake: Who you got?

Grade: A

Kratos Aurion - I expected better from Kratos here. I didn't think he was quite this weak. Maybe Sackboy's actually pretty decent, but we won't find out until he faces Leon later this round. As it stands, Kratos didn't even put up a fight here.

Grade: D-

Ryu - He did everything he needed to do to make it look like he can take on Dante next round. This is one of the few anticipated round 2 matchups where both characters impressed and looked good rather than both characters seeming pretty underwhelming. It's nice to know that both Ryu and Dante look to be going into round 2 in good shape.

Grade: A-

Balthier Bunansa - Like Ramza, it makes me sad that someone like Balthier is going to be limited to being a punching bag in these contests, but at least he made it past the first round once.

Grade: F

Dante - After Ryu's performance on Balthier had everyone talking about how good he was looking going into that round 2 matchup, Dante goes out and puts up a great performance of his own. He was even outdoing Mega Man's performance on Axel in 2006 for a little while before the KH ASV brought it down. Even at the end, it was a strong performance, and Dante gave me my first #1 Oracle prediction ever! Huzzah!

Grade: A

Axel - Riku looked pretty unimpressive earlier in this division, and Axel followed suit. Thankfully, the KH ASV saved a little bit of his dignity and got him above 30%, but he still looked pretty bad.

Grade: F

Star of the Division: Dante
Turd of the Division: Kratos Aurion

Gear Division Grades

Solid Snake - This wasn't a stellar performance or anything, but Protoman is an unknown quantity overall. His only match before this was against Zero in 2004, and Snake did better on Protoman than Zero did, which doesn't really mean anything, I guess.

Grade: C

Protoman - Pretty good performance from Protoman overall. He showed that he's at least worth bringing back next year and can probably win a match if you put him with someone who's not Snake or can SFF him.

Grade: C+

Lloyd Irving - I wasn't expecting Lloyd to be competitive or anything, but getting doubled by Fox is pretty bad. Not that Fox is weak or anything, but he's probably just an average midcarder.

Grade: F

Fox McCloud - He made Lloyd Irving look as bad as SFF'd Pikachu. I'm interested to see how well Fox can do on Snake next round because we've never really gotten a clear read on the guy since the very first contest. He should do pretty well.

Grade: A-

Pikachu - People were curious to see how Pikachu would handle 1-on-1 and the anti-voting and the answer is...He can do just fine. He may have laid a little SFF on Banjo (Not totally convinced about that myself, but it's a possibility), but Pikachu with a tripling on anybody means he's come a long way from less than 55% on PaRappa the Rapper.

Grade: A

Banjo - He couldn't even get 25% on Pikachu. Why does this guy keep coming back?

Grade: F

Commander Shepard - While I think this match speaks more for how weak Ellis is than how strong Shepard may or may not have become, a tripling on anyone is pretty impressive, especially now that we're on anti-blowoutFAQs. I don't think anyone expected him to do anywhere near this well.

Grade: A+

Ellis - When we're discussing whether or not you can beat Eddie Riggs or Sandal after your round one match, you can rest assured you did pretty badly.

Grade: F

Auron - He did basically what he needed to against Aerith to keep himself looking good for that round three showdown with Squall. The way he let Aerith gain percentage on him so easily is a little troubling, but that's just how FFVII rolls these days. Good, but not great performance.

Grade: C+

Aerith Gainsborough - Aerith proves the old mantra to be true: You just don't SFF FFVII unless you're also an FFVII character. You'd figure if any matchup would tend itself to an SFF beatdown, it'd be something like Auron/Aerith, but she did very well for herself and showed she's still got some strength left.

Grade: B-

Zero - A good performance for Zero after his awful showing in the 2008 contest. He won't be beating Auron, but he should do respectably.

Grade: B+

Marcus Fenix - Gears of War continues to fall off the face of the earth.

Grade: F

Darth Revan - I comment at length about Revan on The Show (</shameless plug>), so I'll just give my grade now.

Grade: F

Terra Branford - Old School FF continues to impress. Terra was a pretty big underdog going into this match, and she won this match without much trouble.

Grade: B+

Squall Leonhart - He did about what was expected on Akuma here. It's hard to say how good or bad it was because we don't know much about where Akuma stands, but Squall still remains the favorite in round three after this one.

Grade: C+

Akuma - Give this guy a winnable match next year, please.

Grade: D

Star of the Division: Commander Shepard
Turd of the Division: Darth Revan
