Put this in perspective: My favorite character of all time has one win. Over Laharl. Since then, he has been tripled by Tifa, almost lost to Rayman, and got 6% in a vote-in poll.

I know it's painful to see Crono and co. do worse over time, but they still put on good performances.

I don't think people need to be so hard on red sox for wanting to leave. It's not like he's angry or some stupid fanboy that we see make ridiculous topics every day. Honestly, if Squall had lost to Missingno today, a lot of my interest in these contests would have waned. I think he and I think the same way in regards to this contest for the most part. It's hard seeing a character you love go out like that, honestly.

As much flak people gave Crono Missingno is quite obviously the Star of the Round. Crono isn't some mid-card because he lost, he's still one of the strongest characters of the contest.

I'm with Wylvane in doubting that Chrono Trigger got significantly weaker this year. I mean, how could it? It got CTDS last year, its first taste of relevance in years.

...CTDS deboost?

Possible. People in the mainstream experiencing how bad a game it is might have negated him

I would actually feel better about the contests if Link/Sephiroth smashed Missingno. Then that means that Crono is just a lot weaker, and not that joke votes have completely taken over.

I'm still in Starcraft/Wind Waker mode at the time so that may change.

I think you should stick by your word and leave Red. Even though you have been one of the people that has actually been open minded to discussion, and seem like a pretty good guy. I don't think you should leave because I dislike you -- I think you should leave because of the legitimacy of the contest. I mean, it's not worth getting worked up over so you should stay because of that -- but at the same time why entertain a contest that is so clearly fixed/staged/whatever.

How about instead of red sox leaving, this guy leaves instead on his behalf?

Yoshi has a shot against Missingno, especially if you thought Yoshi > Crono. Missingno's the easy favorite, but I'm not ruling out Yoshi pulling off a win.

Hell, with how crazy this contest has been, the only thing one can be certain about is Zelda > Ezio.

I'm gonna ignore the current match a little longer to say this: red sox, please stick around. You've earned a place among the elites in these topics and provide a lot of good spirit, and it would be a major loss to our discussions to see you leave over a personal fave losing a match in R1. It's your call, of course, but I'll be selfish and ask you to stay.

I second this motion! Ironically enough, he is the least elitist Red Sox fan I've ever been around!

And we should all rally Crono next year, to make up for this glitch in reality.

Yeah, this is what I was saying earlier. I played Skies of Arcadia for the first time about two years ago, and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Vyse was an awesome lead, and I just don't get how a similarly obscure character with 100% fewer lines than him completely and utterly towers over him in strength. I can really only think of three possible factors: Crono's game is on a more popular system (does nothing for the likes of Laharl), Crono is Square (does nothing for guys like Terra and Kefka, who have done poorly until this year), and Crono looks like a DBZ character (is that even an advantage?!). And to top off the confusion Serge was pretty bad when we saw him (maybe an Altair/Ezio or Mewtwo/Lucario kinda thing going on).

And I like Laharl, too, who has one win... over Neku. I can imagine what Neku fans think of the contest. Maybe for them... it's lost all credibility, perhaps?

And that is the funniest part of all.

Even if Crono/Vincent 2007 wasn't enough, I'd still say L-Block winning the 2007 finals over Link, Cloud, and Snake should have ended the N9, even if L-Block today can't beat any of them besides maybe Sonic. It's like Mario winning over Cloud in 2002, Mario certainly wouldn't come close to Cloud today (unless Dissidia deboost is real SAMUS > CLOUD TRAIN CHOO CHOO), but he still earned the win he got over Cloud.

As for 12-hour polls being different... Would Crono really have won if the night vote was included?

Chart from yesterday's match:

Time | Crono | Missingno | Votes
0:05 | 50.04% | 49.96% | 1175
1:00 | 48.85% | 51.15% | 12196
2:00 | 48.57% | 51.43% | 10565
3:00 | 50.06% | 49.94% | 9380
4:00 | 49.90% | 50.10% | 8690
5:00 | 50.80% | 49.20% | 7813
6:00 | 50.49% | 49.51% | 7421
7:00 | 48.58% | 51.42% | 6955
8:00 | 51.39% | 48.61% | 6044
9:00 | 51.88% | 48.12% | 5503
10:00 | 50.45% | 49.55% | 5742
11:00 | 48.93% | 51.07% | 5702
12:00 | 47.59% | 52.41% | 5070

The percentages speak for themselves, and we've been following them all day long, so you don't need me to explain anything (although the fact that Missingno easily had the biggest hour of the match in the last hour feels very unsettling to me. Either Crono ralliers/stuffers stopped trying or Missingno got away with some of its own). The vote totals were pretty ridiculous. We've never had a match get anywhere close to having two hours of 10,000+ votes, and the 12,000 first hour votes is easily the most for a first hour this contest.

Crono won 6 hours, Missingno won 6 hours.

His (Crono) game wasn't very innovative

And in a day of chaos, that is the single most asinine thing I've read. The multiple endings, deep story and the game actually changing events from different eras as you went further back in time doing things that altered the future inside the game. Plus,

CHRONO TRIGGER SPOILERS

--

How many rpgs prior to CT killed the main character? Hell... how many games ever killed the main character prior to the end of the game? But apparently that's not "innovative"

--

END SPOILERS

Conversely, we all know how much innovation is involved in a series of games where you just "run" and try to collect rings. Well, I guess that might offer as much replay value as a game like Chrono Trigger if you had an IQ under 60 and couldn't grasp more developed concepts beyond holding in the A button to run.

Not an easily identifiable part of the game. I bet loads of people play through MW2's campaign barely paying attention to anyone but Price, if that. It's not a character-driven game.

I think Yoshi has a bit of a chance to beat out Missingno, maybe because it seems that people who don't like the contest and who does well in it seem to be more open to Nintendo characters.
