GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 828

From: vcharon | #434 This is also a contest "discussion" topic. As in we discuss aspects of the contest. People from all sorts of bases are going to contribute to discussion here, not just the statheads. Which is where discussion such as this one comes from. You have the view of people who like seeing their favourite characters in the contest, such as Cyclo and I, and you have the view of statheads like yourself who forego other people's "favourites" in lieu of having a contest that would (only in theory) be better overall. --- "Go and read some more Wikipedia I'm sure they have a good article on spases." - Lil69Leo |

If
Guybrush was low seeded fodder it would be totally different. Here he
is wasting a 9 seed though, and Vincent being the 8 seed has no bearing
on that whatsoever. Strong characters like Sub-Zero have to fight their
way to even make the field while Guybrush takes up space. --- :> |

In
all fairness, if this keeps up, Guybrush will not look that bad when
all is said and done, but why is he randomly gaining so fast in America? I remember him being over 80% in the US and he has fallen about 1% there. one can ever be happy, if we get the niche fodder in, whining cos

No,
fodder vs. fodder vs. fodder vs. fodder matches don't particularly
interest me. Even if Vyse was in a match like that, I wouldn't care to

And
its still a moral victory for Monkey Island fans. We've gotten Guybrush
into the contest so much that he's a known name on gamefaqs by now.

So stop using phrases like "no-one wants to see it". The fact is that 10% of people voted MI OVER SMB3. Those 10% loved that match. People will always want to see their fodder win a match. I loved watching Ratchet hit 70 because I like the character. That's what the contests are really about. Rooting for your favourite characters. You can't do that if they're not there. --- No? |

Hell,
Guybrush had a remake and new games for the first time in ~10 years in
2009. Yeah, nothing huge like Uncharted 2 or ME2, but at the very least
they could've gotten him a noticeable boost. They obviously didn't, of
course, but it's worth having him this contest just to see if they had
any effect. They certainly could have affected his seeding, at the very
least! Also, you never know when characters will impress. Yeah, not exactly fodder level here, but did anyone expect the performances we got out of Cecil and Kefka, neither of which really had any right to come back after 2008? They had Dissidia, but Guybrush had new games too, games that would be today's gamers' first exposure to the Monkey Island series and Guybrush himself. At the very least, it was worth having him in this contest to see if they gave him a noticeable boost. --- Not Wylvane |

this
has me wondering, do you think people ever end up purchasing games from
characters they've seen in the contest based on how they did? Like say wander or Ammy, just by seeing them in and seeing say the design of the character, do people then wonder which game they come from and they after digging up more info they buy the game and become intergrated with the fanbase? If so then man these contests are powerful advertising tools. --- Shakes Fist! |

Saying Guybrush is a contest staple is a massive load of total bull. As we've gone over before, the problem with turbofodder like Guybrush is that he's not fun. He doesn't provide any excitement, or reason to have interesting discussion. This discussion of "pro Guybrush vs. anti Guybrush" is by far the most interesting conversation he's ever provoked!! Newer characters would be by far more fun for the voting populace at large, and that's what these contests are about - fun. Frankly, even Tanner would be vastly more fun, just because of his infamy. --- gamefaqscontests.com gamefaqscontests.com/gallery |

I don't know if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me here >_> Agreeing with you. And Leon is right that contest exposure will probably only increase your strength if you actually do well. is, you don't get exposure from being in contests unless you do well.
