Okay,
finished the mock-bracket! As I mentioned before, my goal was to cut
everything SB did for this contest in half -- I only kept the top fifty
nominated characters as guarantees instead of one hundred, then took
the next thirty-six most nominated to form six groups of six for the
vote-in process instead of the next seventy-two for six groups of
twelve. With your input, I picked the fourteen highest-scoring
characters instead of twenty-eight and threw them into the bracket to
be reorganized. I tried to stay true to their original seedings, but
eventually ditched it as long as I was sorta close...then toward the
end, I may have made some bigger seeding-changes to try doing something with some of these guys. For the record, it's hard to cut it back down to sixty-four! Here's what I made though, have at it: 1-Link 8-Magus 4-Captain John Price 5-Zidane 3-Ezio 6-Knuckles 2-Master Chief 7-Yuna 1-Cloud 8-Donkey Kong 4-Tidus 5-Jill Valentine 3-Kratos 6-Pikachu 2-Altair 7-Fox McCloud 1-Sora 8-Zelda 4-Crono 5-Ness 3-Auron 6-Sackboy 2-Squall 7-Vincent 1-Sonic 8-Isaac 4-Bowser 5-Ganondorf 3-Luigi 6-Zack Fair 2-Dante 7-Big Boss 1-Sephiroth 8-Duke Nukem 4-Captain Falcon 5-Red 3-L-Block 6-Zero 2-Soap MacTavish 7-Charizard 1-Samus 8-GlaDOS 4-Albert Wesker 5-Kefka 3-Kirby 6-Yoshi 2-Nathan Drake 7-Ryu 1-Mario 8-Ratchet 4-Commander Shepard 5-Riku 3-Leon Kennedy 6-Alucard 2-Gordon Freeman 7-Ryu Hayabusa 1-Solid Snake 8-Geno 4-Ike 5-Roxas 3-Mega Man 6-Amaterasu 2-Phoenix Wright 7-Tifa Lockhart --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

From: HaRRicH | #352 My thoughts: 1. Any reason you didn't go for Sonic/Crono/Mega Man/Vincent in one division? Their seeds line up perfectly for it, and it'd be one of the most interesting setups you could do. I did something like this a few days ago and it was the first division I did. 2. I'm not a fan of Link/Cloud meeting so early; it'd be great to see someone else in the final, but it just doesn't seem right. At least let them both make the semifinals. 3. Needs more Companion Cube. --- http://thengamer.com/guru/bracket.php?id=68 |

1.
Any reason you didn't go for Sonic/Crono/Mega Man/Vincent in one
division? Their seeds line up perfectly for it, and it'd be one of the
most interesting setups you could do. I did something like this a few
days ago and it was the first division I did. I felt compelled to have Solid face a Noble-Niner (or potential NN-breaker) before he went against Mario, Tifa would have had a boring route without Mega Man around, and I like the idea of the Noble Niners (specifically Crono and Sonic) going against the world in their divisions. Mega Man's definitely a competitor in their league, but the divisions felt better in my mind if they were serving as testing the Noble Nine (plus Tifa also gets a shot against Mega Man to test it). Bloodbaths for the sake of bloodbaths are fun too though...hard to go wrong either way. I also like Luigi/Zack. 2. I'm not a fan of Link/Cloud meeting so early; it'd be great to see someone else in the final, but it just doesn't seem right. At least let them both make the semifinals. I'm not either, but they still win their divisions and we've seen them in so many championships that it wasn't worth giving them that free ride for the sake of this exercise (even if they deserve it). 3. Needs more Companion Cube. GEEENOOO!!! (How much you want to bet HaRR picks Ness > Crono?) Ness > Squall! --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

Oh ho ho. 1-Link 8-Magus 4-Captain John Price 5-Zidane Price's percentage on X looks all the more impressive after we've seen classic, Protoman, and Zero in action. Sorry, Zidahn! 3-Ezio 6-Knuckles 2-Master Chief 7-Yuna Nice. Both Knux and Ezio disappointed us, but at least Cecil has a reason to be stronger. Horribly tempted to pick Yuna but I can't get around the doubling from Game Fuel Chief. Dante turned around 45% pretty easily but that's a pretty big barrier. I'll take Chief over Knuckles; both sucked in the first round but Knux was worse. 1-Cloud 8-Donkey Kong 4-Tidus 5-Jill Valentine Does Tidus double Niko? Not a chance. 3-Kratos 6-Pikachu 2-Altair 7-Fox McCloud That Tails performance was awful. Kinda tempted to go with Fox after Ezio but it's hard to take too much away from Altair's great performance on Liquid. No problems with the rat over Altair. 1-Sora 8-Zelda 4-Crono 5-Ness Sora gets the slight nod over Zelda. 3-Auron 6-Sackboy 2-Squall 7-Vincent Staying consistent with Auron > Squall! I think Vincent's going to lose steam as FFVII in general does, which should come as no surprise. 1-Sonic 8-Isaac 4-Bowser 5-Ganondorf Staying consistent here too with Ganondorf > Sonic! I'm not sure how much I trust Ganondorf vs other Nintendo, especially Bowser, but he did well enough on Samus two out of three tries. 3-Luigi 6-Zack Fair 2-Dante 7-Big Boss Zack gives Luigi a good match, same with Big Boss and Dante, but I don't have second thoughts picking either of them. Naked Snake/Luigi is awfully close but I give the edge to Luigi as I'm still convinced he's stronger than Kirby. 1-Sephiroth 8-Duke Nukem 4-Captain Falcon 5-Red Kinda disappointed with Falcon's performance but I think it was better than Red's. 3-L-Block 6-Zero 2-Soap MacTavish 7-Charizard Zero in a squeaker and I've got no problems taking the Zard out of this one. 1-Samus 8-GlaDOS 4-Albert Wesker 5-Kefka Kefka seems a bit stronger than Alucard and I'd take him over Wesker, still. 3-Kirby 6-Yoshi 2-Nathan Drake 7-Ryu I'm not sure I trust Kirby over other Nintendo (see: Bowser, Luigi, bad LFF with DK, Lucas), but Yoshi is meh recently. Definitely like Kirby over Ryu - for now. 1-Mario 8-Ratchet 4-Commander Shepard 5-Riku Shepard could certainly win but I'm reluctant to take too much away from a fodder beatdown. Riku didn't look great and neither did Axel or Roxas, though. 3-Leon Kennedy 6-Alucard 2-Gordon Freeman 7-Ryu Hayabusa Don't like Alucard enough to pick him over Leon, same with Hayabusa and Dr. Freeman, and Gordon and Leon. 1-Solid Snake 8-Geno 4-Ike 5-Roxas Both had subpar performances but I'll go with who I like better. 3-Mega Man 6-Amaterasu 2-Phoenix Wright 7-Tifa Lockhart As FFVII falls I'll trust Tifa less. She can prove me wrong with a big win over Freeman, since we know what she got on Peach in 2006. --- Mustache...and Green... |

Link Master Chief Cloud Pikachu Pikachu to break 40% in the sprite round imho. Crono Auron Ganondorf Luigi Crono in a very close one and how could I not take Luigi? Sephiroth Charizard Samus Kirby Oh yes. Samus had the best performance of the first round and Cloud had the worst; Sephiroth can certainly take that mantle from him. We haven't seen Seph truly be dominant since that Mario match in 2005. Mario Leon Snake Mega Man Snake gives Mario a great match but I'll take the plumber. Link Crono Samus Mario No surprises here. --- Mustache...and Green... |

See,
I'm not so sure Niko beats Lloyd easily. I think Jill/Niko was more
Niko being utter crap than Jill getting some monstrous boost, but we'll
find out next round. And what is up with these western characters and their utter inability to do anything with the ASV? Chief couldn't do anything with it, neither of the two CoD guys could do anything with it, Drake couldn't do anything with it, Kratos couldn't do anything with it, Fenix is doing nothing with it right now. The only exceptions have been Altair and Ezio. Heck, even traditional Smash Bros. fan favorites who have Smash Bros.-esque trends haven't done anything with it. Ike, Captain Falcon, and Fox all did nothing with the day vote. Kingdom Hearts and the Assassin's Creed guys have been the only ones to have any sort of day vote power so far. --- "Stay with me until the end. Please." "Not until the end. Always." |

LeonhartFour | Posted 2/11/2010 1:36:04 PM | message detail |
I
think there's more to it than that. There's really no reason why those
guys should be the exceptions to a diluted ASV. Captain Falcon and Ike
had no business not dominating the ASV whatsoever. Chief should've
owned Spy, rallying or not. Axel had a good ASV, and he was facing a
guy with an average day vote himself (At the very least, a guy with
better day votes than Spy, Wander, and Prinny, for cryin' out loud). --- "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!" |
LeonhartFour | Posted 2/11/2010 1:38:25 PM | message detail |
And
Dante's day vote is pretty comparable to Zero's, I'd imagine, and they
were at relatively similar percentages when the ASV hit. Axel makes a
big move, Fenix does squat. XBox and Brawl deboost part deux --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
charmander6000 | Posted 2/11/2010 1:48:05 PM | message detail |
It
could also be that their DSV is terrible while their ASV is that much
better. Some characters begin their increases in the morning and don't
really pause during the DSV. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB8%20BOP.xls Character Battle VIII - 43/52 - Today's Winners: Auron and Zero |

But
that doesn't explain why Altair, Ezio, and Axel had pretty strong day
votes (and Riku to an extent against Ramza with the little bit of day
vote he got). With the exception of Ezio/Simon where something weird was definitely going on, all of those matches they involve Day Vote characters who are stronger in America/Night Vote characters who are stronger in Europe. I'm not entirely sure why Europeans can't vote in the Day Vote poll (the times covered are times in which everyone should be able to vote unlike the 12AM-12PM poll for Americans.), but Europe's percentage of the Day Vote polls is lowered. Zero, who is weak in Europe anyway, is thus not able to be taken advantage of with the ASV, since there's less European votes to be diluted by it. --- "Sonic... he asked me for the first time to do something for him. I
was actually thinking that it was the other way around - Europeans were
voting in the traditional DSV hours, later than they normally would.
This depresses the DSV of characters weak in Europe, like Zero, and
then, when the ASV vote comes, they don't really have far to fall. If we had votal stats we could make more sense of it. --- Mustache...and Green... |
