You know the only reason people think Wesker is suddenly capable now is that he came close to a complete unknown who could be weak for all we know. I'm not letting him off easily after last year, where he almost got beaten by an SFF'd Sackboy who's game hadn't even come out yet. I'd still take Lloyd over him. Now if Ken impresses and/or Sackboy flops next round, I will retract that statement, but for now I consider neither Wesker nor Ken worth mentioning strength-wise.

Ken isn't going to be the weakest SF character. Other SF characters, ones who didn't even make this contest, would be able to take it to the Tales dudes. Post-RE5 Wesker shouldn't have much trouble there.

I still don't understand why Lloyd and Mithos were so close together. Maybe ToS's recency wore off in between 2005 contests or something. Kefka Vs. Mithos is just one of the weirdest contest matches for me because of that.

To be honest though, I didn't even know Lloyd was hated until these contests anyway. I thought he was fine in the game, myself.

Again, Wesker almost lost to a ridiculously weaker Sackboy. Not entirely sure what Jak has to do with anything.

I like Lloyd and his game, dunno where the hate comes from.

I also doubt RE5 boosted Wesker that much. Ignoring the relatively lukewarm reception(compared to 4 anyway), Wesker shows up most of the way through the game, and only has a handful of scenes that are frankly jokes. Incredibly funny jokes, but jokes nonetheless. Now even CHRIS, the main character, didn't boost that much from it apparently. I don't see why it'd do anything for Wesker if it didn't for him.

Again, Wesker almost lost to a ridiculously weaker Sackboy. Not entirely sure what Jak has to do with anything.

I'm not one to propose Snake SFF'd him or anything, but that was before RE5 after all.

In all fairness to Wesker, he almost beat Lara Croft in 2007, which is actually halfway decent, so maybe 2008 is the year that's the aberration for him.

And again, all I'm saying that people thinking Wesker is suddenly strong now is almost completely baseless, based entirely off of massive assumptions in regard to Ken's strength. I'm just not giving Wesker any credit at all until I see something solid.

Could Wesker have been SFF'ed by Snake in '08? They're both have the same type of appeal and Ryu H. had the same problem.

Melee would crush ToS because it has a much larger fanbase, not because fans of both (and hence, by definition, ToS fans) overwhelmingly prefer Melee to ToS.

I, too, fail to see Wesker as having done a complete 180 and suddenly being capable since he came close to Ken, who we might just as well consider an unknown.. Especially when all Wesker's done is lose, lose, lose.

Also, as was already brought up, we've now seen Solid beat Protoman worse than Cloud beat Ridley and a vote-in poll (as well as general intuition) suggests Ridley and Protoman are pretty close in strength. If Sephiroth lets Marth do better against him than Cloud let Ridley (and that makes sense, considering Cloud > Sephiroth and Marth probably beats Ridley), then at least these weird R1-performances will seem somewhat-consistent and Solid will have gone even with Seph in R1 if not won it.

Not that we should put a lot of stock into these battles or the vote-in poll, but right now there's nothing that says Solid can't compete with Cloud...so the Solid > Sephiroth has some recent evidence. Considering Sephiroth gets Vincent, Crono, and Tifa after he dismantles Marth, this is going to be the clearest read we'll have on him before he faces Solid. Seph could use a great performance here to try keeping people quiet about such an upset because he's not getting a good opportunity any other time.

Anyway, RE5 was possibly Wesker's finest hour. Short of the last bit where it all gets a bit too crazy (though it's still awesome in an OTT way), he easily outstrips his CVX and RE1 performances. And for people who started the series with RE4 (and there must be a few, though I'm sure there's some ancient poll which contradicts me or some rubbish like that), he'd be a pretty big deal. He almost certainly boosted from it, not enough to make him any sort of powerhouse (he started off too crap for that) but a decent amount by his standards.
