~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent, Zelda, Kirby, etc group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters in the past.

The Fodder Line - A final X-Stat value of 15% or below.

Sure enough, Axel got the famous Kingdom Hearts ASV, but it wasn't super effective (which could be bad news for Sora against Charizard!). He only had a few hours where he was really tearing things up.

This is pretty pathetic from Snake. All I know is Axel better not be > Protoman.

I know blowouts are non-existent this contest, but pretty sure nobody votes purely against Snake.

In Protoman's only other appearance, Zero did better than this. And don't even attribute it to SFF because Zero didn't falter against MM around that time.

What about someone who puts on two pairs of shades?

Well, since it's slow, I'd like to bring up that -- if you count four-ways -- Sephiroth beating Marth will be the Noble Nine's 300th victory over a non-Noble Niner. Also, assuming Missingno doesn't pull the impossible, Crono advancing will give the Noble Nine their 125th victory in a row over a non-Noble Niner in a one-on-one scenario.

Let's cherish that latter one while we still can...!

If Snake can somehow push it to 72+%, i think it is actually an acceptable performance. Cloud could only score 71+% on Ridley and i honestly believe that Proto/Ridley are relatively close in strength.

Snake wins with 70.94% of the vote!
A 35,928 vote margin of victory.

Consider that this Snake is a good deal stronger while this Protoman is a good deal weaker, and that suggests that Protoman was a mid micarder in '04, before the Mega Man series' fall from grace.

Analysis

Not even the biggest Tales of Symphonia fan could make an argument for Lloyd to win this match. I know a lot of people were bashing Tales characters during Kratos Aurion’s loss, but there are a lot more characters that need to be removed before reaching these two guys. Of course should one miss out it won’t be a huge loss either. Fox on the other hand has one of the more boring routes in this contest, win round 1 lose round 2.

Despite having the only win from the Tales crew Lloyd isn’t that strong. Some people may overrate his weakness, but he won’t be defeating anyone of note. Based on his performances in previous contests the guy should be ranked at around high fodder. Despite what some people have called I don’t believe that Tales of Symphonia has taken another hit based on Kratos Aurion’s performance.

After missing for so many years Fox made his return in four-ways and crushed lower ranked Nintendo characters as predicted before being crushed by Mario himself. His 2008 performance was a bit more notable as his performance shows that he has strength of a mid-card. He was even able to hold well against Yoshi. Even though the only decent information on Fox is in four-ways I don’t see him deviating from that strength.

Fox will get to show off his strength in this match. There is the possibility for SFF to occur since Tales of Symphonia was Gamecube only, but it shouldn’t be any more than a couple of percent. Even if Fox decides to choke hard in this match it would be near impossible for him to lose without a notable site shift occurring during the process.

Bring on round 2. Most of the remaining semi-debatable matches are of characters I don't know much about.

Terra/Revan, Crono/Missingno, Peach/Freeman (hey it could be close)

That's pretty much whats left for me. Unless Zero decides to Magus-ify himself against Marcus Fenix.

And Soap will cost me if he wins.

Also, anyone that anti-votes Snake deserves to be offended for making a poor decision!

Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ!

People are underestimating how well Thrall and Ridley really did. I don't think that I've ever seen anti-voting to the extent that we saw it in those two matches. Link probably would have ended up doing better, and Cloud may have to to an extent, but it's still a pretty bad performance of them. Certainly enough for Snake to take advantage of against Sephiroth, especially if Sephy's at 2004 levels.

Vote totals are pretty horrid here, even for a night match. That doesn't suggest Snake is pulling in the voters...I didn't know that stats topic regulars put such faith in elite v fodder matches either. I thought it was accepted they meant very little.
The best evidence we have for Snake/Cloud is Snake's last legitimate match, where he just barely got 43% (lol) on Cloud, and that was his best year. Yeah, even with increased antivotes there's still absolutely nothing to suggest he can touch Sephiroth right now.

If Sephiroth gets 75%, that would be enough for me to put faith in him, since it means that he's either not getting anti-voted, or he's popular enough to sustain a Snake rally.

I like Sephy too; I'm not coming to this from a personal point of view, but I think people are underestimating how childish and hypocritical voters can be.
