Yeah, I wouldn't put too much stock into him being a choker. The only 2 winnable matches were Ryu and Yoshi. Ryu was pre-DMC3, and Nintendo was incredible in 06. Snake probably made the biggest boost of any character ever for being in Brawl, I think most of Nintendo boosted that year as well.

Yeah, but unless Axel dropped, Dante shouldn't be outperforming Mega Man here. Axel has basically every reason to be as strong (if not stronger) than his 2006 performance, thanks to 358/2 Days, and Dante has no reason to be stronger than 2006 Mega Man all of a sudden. Something weird's happening here.

Also, Dante's 'first round blowouts' weren't even that great. Pre-Boosted Luigi tripled Ratchet, and Pre-Boost Luigi got 60-40d by Squall.

Yeah, I don't put a lot of stock into that Ratchet blowout because, well, it's Ratchet. The ones I put stock in are the Terra blowout (Say what you want, she's high fodder and Dante broke 70% on her), and blowing out Hayabusa.

But it's still kinda strange that the strongest person Dante has ever beaten (aside from Leon Kennedy) is...Ryu Hayabusa/Master Chief, who are basically average midcarders. Dante has one of the least impressive resumes for a near elite character, in my opinion.

Maybe not now (although I'll still take the Blue Bomber), but I don't think Dante beats 2006 level Mega Man.

Let's not forget crushing Terra before losing to Vincent, though this wasn't exactly unexpected. Just some loose Kerrigan carry-over nonsense says otherwise.

By the way, Frog's strength is horribly overrated because of his antics and using Axel to defend him is logical fallacy. The Solid **** match is the only time he's shown any strength whatsoever, and I think we can safely throw that match out for obvious reasons. This means the close wins he's so famous for are against Liquid Snake (Liquid has since bombed), Axel (who has been in a grand total of three matches, and his claim to fame is getting 30% on Mega Man in the latter's worst year ever), KOS-MOS (LOL), Riku (who has never done anything other than beat Ryu Hayabusa with Solid Snake's help) and Master Chief (LOL).

Am I missing something here?

What's this? Talking about characters choking in MY stats topic? I don't think so.

I thought this was the one place on board 8 that was supposed to be rational and logical. There is no "choking" in polls. The idea is ludicrous. It's the same thing with Ocelot and Kefka.. you guys keep saying they "choke" or whatever... they just fluctuate in strength and are unpredictable in terms of gauging their strength year to year. The characters that beat Dante were simply stronger. Yoshi won because he was stronger that year (and possibly got help from LUE/LL which is why I picked him). I would take Dante > Yoshi now.

Axel 2006 and Axel 2007 are roughly similar. He definitely didn't drop that much, if at all between those two years.

And Dante's performance against Vincent was way more impressive than his performance against Terra, now that we know how unpopular she is. If anything I would say Dante overperformed on Vincent in '05 and was thusly overrated and that's why he lost to Yoshi in 2006.

I think 1 seeds have a tendency to overperform. Kirby overperformed on Bowser, Dante on Vincent, maybe Sora on Mega Man in 2006.

People knew how to make slapstick funny back then. Now it's badly timed and droll. Problem is that most people in sitcoms nowadays are actors rather than comedians. That's not true of everything, but a lot. That and the overuse of complex stories that aren't needed.

Absolutely. I'm not surprised it's happening, but people are overreacting hard to this, thinking that Axel who got 30% on Mega Man is the same Axel four years later. I'd bet a lot he's not -- and that Dante, should he win next round, won't do so by a whole lot.

I don't see why anyone should think an Axel coming straight off of KH2 will be anywhere near that now. Didn't everyone from KH2 overperform in 2006? Hell, he dropped from 23% to 20% on Base Link from 2006 to 2007 alone... whos to say he isn't high fodder now?

2006 was KH's best year. Riku had that 45% on Yoshi, Sora got 46% on Mega Man, and I'd love to see freakin' Kairi get 42% on Rikku again. Sora seems to be the only guy who's maintained his level from that year, which makes sense, as he's the face of the series.

I haven't bothered doing any numbers -- and I don't really plan to, especially as it concerns 4 ways -- but the Frog that went even with Axel in 2007 doesn't seem, at least to me, even to be equal to the Frog in 2008. It's more of an eyeballing it sort of thing, but Frog's 2008 run was more impressive than what he did in 2007. Same with the...36-39% (I forget which) he put on Bowser earlier. I don't think Axel gets as close to Frog 1v1 today as he did in 2007.

I should say that I'm not trying to argue against Dante being the favorite next round, because he should be as he has been all along, especially since he's beating Ryu's percentage today. I do, however, disagree that he's become some super elite character and that Ryu is going to get stomped into the ground. I'm probably alone on this now, but I still think Ryu's got a good shot to win. Even if he doesn't, though, I don't see Dante winning by more than 53% or so, to pull a random number out of nowhere.
