Ulti.... you have to look at the votes. Dante has over 50000 and Balthier has only 20000. That's more than a doubling...

Yeah, Ryu/Dante just feels way too much like Samus/Mario to me. Which is why I went with the seemingly obvious pick. Ryu has way more going for him this year than Dante does. DMC4 is like 2 years old now, and wasn't very well recieved at that.

Another embarrassing performance for the leading man. This may be Ryu beasting, but I'm leaning more towards Balthier sucking.

You know, I know Balthier's the fan favorite from FFXII, but maybe it's different at Gamefaqs for some reason. I have a hard time believing everyone from this game is this awful. It's an FF, for god's sake. Lightning did better than this against Sonic and her game's not even out here yet. I wonder how Ashe or Basch would do in this position?

Though I would expect Dante and Leon to have more SFF then most... don't forget, Dante was the original main character of Resident Evil 4 before they scrapped it and turned it into a new franchise instead.

Speaking of votals, I haven't given up on my votal-stats! I think they were already about as accurate as 4-way stats in the games contest, but someday I shall find a way to make them more accurate than them!

Here are the final v-stats for the Games Contest, if anyone missed them earlier and is interested. Basically, I assumed a base of 95,000 votes in each poll and that the votes above 95,000 were dependent on the sum of the strengths of the games in the poll. To make the stats, I took the total votes in each poll, subtraced 95,000, and divided the remainder according to the percentages, resulting in a number. For games that appeared in multiple rounds, I averaged their numbers. Then, to put them in the usual percentage format, I acted as if those numbers were votes in a poll.

I'm perplexed why anyone would resort to "Capcom SFF" (a pretty silly notion) rather than a hierarchy of these badass-type characters who have similar appeal. Dante and Leon have that. Hell, Ryu Hayabusa runs into an uncompromising brick wall every time he sees Snake, but what company SFF do they have?

Sorry to channel the horrible and terrible spirit of Turtle for a sec, but I argued for the possibility of Pikachu performing well before the Pika/Dante/Leon match. The idea of Capcom SFF never entered my head; I just figured Leon and Dante are similar characters who appeal to a similar target audience.

I don't buy it outside of Dante/Leon. Dante and Leon are both stars of popular horror action games from last gen, and even share the same hair do. I don't see why they wouldn't share a fanbase.

No, but seriously, I don't buy Capcom SFF. The Pika > Dante match being brought up is the only thing worth mentioning in argument of it, and there are a number of reasons that carry more weight than Capcom SFF:

1) Leon/Dante went fine twice in 2008.
2) The picture was a big change for Pikachu -- we finally saw him with a sprite. Combine that with poor pictures for the rest of them, and that could be a factor...
3) ...and even if there was some Capcom SFF, it took three Capcom characters against a character everyone knows to make it matter. Find examples with just two Capcom characters that suggest Capcom SFF as strongly as Pika > Dante if you choose to take that angle.

It's because it's based on their performances in all the rounds, and round 1 and round 4 hurt SM64 relative to CT with regards to v-stats. Remember, it's based on votals.

I agree, which is why I don't really buy this Capcom SFF thing. Seven years ago, Ryu beat Dante because he was stronger. If he does it again this year, it'll be because he's as strong or stronger. If Leon gets a starring role in RE6, will anyone really argue that he can't beat Dante because of the Capcom hierarchy?

I looked at it that way because DMC was supposed to be RE4. Huge number of early DMC adopters were resident evil fans.

RBY is the one generation in my wheelhouse, and I can safely say most people don't like Yellow or the Pikachu-following-you-around thing. Right idea, wrong Pokemon for it. Pikachu backlash was in full swing because of the anime, kids, cards and Yellow. If that match pic was a well-known battle sprite, sure, but that might be the WORST possible picture Pikachu could have gotten.

Maybe you guys were onto something about Sackboy fans being fans of QB sacks as well (or ToS fans are nerds who don't like football)! Kratos's peak hours were during the time when the Super Bowl was on, and he promptly dropped back off after it was over! Vote totals kinda tapered off during the time when the game was on, and went back up a bit after it was over as well!
