And I hate to say I told you so about picking Fails characters, but I told you so.

It boggles my mind how Board 8 will bracket pick guys that have no chance of winning just because they come from some "indie" game that they obsess over. Phoenix also had way more bracket support than he should have. Really, the only time that has paid off was Ammy/Shadow, and that was more a lesson on putting faith in Sonic Team than anything.

I'm pretty certain about Gordon > Peach, though I don't expect a particularly impressive win. Gordon in 2008 was plenty solid (say what you will about Scorpion, but Gordon beat him hard enough to arguably beat Sub-Zero in a rematch) and I'm a fan of GameSpot's contest carrying some influence here. Meanwhile, Peach hasn't looked that well in recent years. Though MK was impressive in 2007 (in a way), she really shouldn't have lost to him without SSBB being out...and I don't want to hear about the hype making him stronger than the release because MK beat her worse in this year's vote-ins (where she also barely beat Marth). I like the Tifa/Vincent-comparison that was brought up comparing Gordon/Peach, too.

Her recognition should help keep her from being embarrassed, but Gordon's in good shape to win.

Well, I have Gordon beating Tifa as my upset special of my bracket, so I think he will be! That dude is legit now and after the Gamespot contest you can't count out Steam rallying.

Whoa, Tifa only got 66% on Peach, and it's not really like she's going to drop. If you're going to be disappointed with 65%, you better have taken Gordon to reach Sephiroth.

Aside from the Gamespot contest, the fact he has a 2-seed, the fact he looked really good last year and the fact that Peach didn't, Tifa/Gordon will definitely be closer than Gordon/Peach.

Wow massive Peach underestimation going on here. Peach is not fodder based on her previous contest matches. There's no reason to believe that Gordon Freeman winning in GameSpot will have any factor here. You don't become a fan of something because it performed well in a contest poll. Freeman will be lucky to break 60% in that match, though at the same time he won't lose.

Seeing the other Orange Box characters do so well leads me to believe Gordon shouldn't have any problems with Peach, but you never know.

Also, no way Gordon doubles Peach. He couldn't even break 60% on Phoenix Wright back when no one played his game.

To be fair, I haven't seen a shred of argument for Peach winning. At least every stat we have points to Gordon > Peach, though by how much is debatable.

According the 2007 x-stats (which I assume have Gordon as post-Orange Box)..

Peach 49.47% 64,758
Gordon Freeman 50.53% 66,140
TOTAL VOTES 130,897

Now, in four-ways we've seen characters who rely on leeching the popularity of their series for strength underperform. PLUS, Peach has had Brawl, which may have helped freaking Ridley become a midcarder. PLUS, it's a day match, which benefits Nintendo.

Ergo, Peach will win with 58%.

22% against Sephiroth while being LFF probably places her at around the fodder line to low mid-card. Freeman should win, but a doubling is pretty ridiculous.
