I can imagine Dark Link's path, enters the division as a lower seed but, takes out second seed crono, in the division finals, wipes out MegaMan, in the Quarters, faces Snake, winner goes against Mario and the finalist meets up with Link who's trashed Aeris/Tifa/Vincent/Zack/Sephiroth and Cloud on his way to the finals.

Less than 2 hours till my Pet Nomination character goes... Kinda nervous how good he'll look.. I really hope he isn't total fodder so he might get another shot in the future against someone winnable.

Some (a lot?) of people thought Vault Boy refered to the main character of Fallout 3. Due to the picture, they won't make the same mistake. I'm not sure how much this helps/hurts Vault Boy.

Especially when the main character has no lines, can be male or female, no specific look, and is constantly called "The Lone Wonderer" in the game, I doubt many people who played FO3 would be voting for Vault boy thinking it was the main character.

Mass Effect and ME2 are probably my 2 favourite games from the last 2 generations. There really hasn't been anything else that has even come close since the PS1/N64 days.

Thats why I think those GOTY polls are kinda flawed. RE5 bombed like hell in there, but it seemed to help Wesker/Jill/Chris quite a bit. When you got so many options in a 12-way poll, great but not quite excellent games like RE5 tend to get the shaft. I mean, I LOVE RE5, but GOTY? Hardly. Doesn't mean I wouldn't vote for Wesker/Jill/Chris when I get the chance.

Because you legtimately like the main character of Fallout 3. His name doesn't come up very much and you mistakenly believe that Fallout Boy is one of his names. Other than MMX, the other 11 characters aren't exactly hugely popular.

The amount of people who loved Fallout 3 and mistaken Vault Boy for the main character would be small. That's like having a character from a game you like with a nameless main character and having people think that's the main character.

You also have to remember that while RE5 was mediocre, it continued the story of a popular franchise, and was essentially the first time since the PS1 days that we've heard or seen from Jill and Chris.

My reasoning for why I think some users may have confused Fallout Boy with the main character of Fallout 3 is because I've seen a couple topics here and on CE making that mistake and it sounded like a reasonable mistake that people could make. I don't really know much about the Fallout fanbase so I may be overestimating how many people would actually confuse the two.

Analysis

The bottom half of this division pits the three strongest Capcom characters together with the winner getting bragging rights and a match against Cloud. Despite in the opinion of the board being the third strongest Capcom character Leon gets a free pass against the winner of Dante/Ryu.

While some people figure that Vault Boy has decent strength pretty much everyone agrees that Leon is a bit out of his league in this match. Vault Boy’s performance in the vote-in was pretty impressive though I would be surprised if he’s that close to Mega Man X in this contest. Anyone who has played Fallout should easily recognize Vault Boy; the problem arises as whether or not they care enough about him to vote for him.

Leon Kennedy, while not from Resident Evil 5 could benefit from the game just by the influx of Resident Evil fans coming to the site. Of course with the game being released for almost a year now that influx is probably at low meaning any kind of boost would be minimal, though any kind of boost probably won’t be fully known until the following round.

If Vault Boy is cared enough he’ll put up a decent performance, but if he’s not Leon could easily crush him on route to breaking 70%. Vault Boy’s performance in the vote-in shows him performing better than other known, but uncared characters so he could look good here, but at the same time maybe that 12% is the only group of people that likes him.

Aside from the fact that you seem to have forgotten about Mega Man and X, I'm pretty sure Zero would demo Leon, and probably be pretty close to the other 2.

Indeed, it was a continuation of the main RE storyline though I disagree it was "mediocre". It just had a tough act to follow after RE4.

Link would in all likelihood break 80% on Zelda; he got 88% on Ganondorf. Sonic/Knuckles is more comparable to something like Crono/Magus or Mario/Bowser. 80% isn't happening.

That match sucks. It's one of my favorite characters going against probably my least favorite and Guybrush will be rather lucky to hit 20%. At least it takes place on a Saturday so we might get a little of that FFVII board vote.

And it's gonna suck because I do think Vault Boy would normally be impressive and would probably even break 40% on normal Leon, but I do think Leon's going to also benefit from this RE boost indirectly, much like Altair, so Vault Boy's gonna look kinda like crap.

At the very least, we'll get no good read on either of them until Round 2 or so barring something like Leon tripling VB or VB pulling a close match anyway.

Go Vault Boy overperformance! I don't have much faith, but I'm rooting hard for it!

This match is unfortunate. Vault Boy has a pretty big range but just about all of it lies below Leon Kennedy.

If you put him in today's match, I might take him over Captain Falcon. Fallout 3 is pretty damn popular and my sense is that F3 fans would absolutely vote for Vault Boy. I'd pick Vault Boy over Kefka, over Kratos Aurion, over Diablo, maayyybbbbe over Donkey Kong.

Leon Kennedy is a pretty big step up from those guys, and Resident Evil's had a good contest thus far, so it's tough to expect too much from Vault Boy here. If he can keep it under 60% though? We may have a new contest fixture.

After seeing several Resident Evil characters do very well, the strongest one of them gets his chances to impress tonight. Leon is looking to give himself a chance against the winner of Ryu/Dante, which is a daunting task as Dante has had his number the past couple of years, but with the way Resident Evil has impressed this year, it’s possible.

His opponent is Vault Boy, from the Fallout series. I’m not really sure what to expect from him, but my guess is he’ll have some strength- Fallout 3 has strength, and Vault Boy is supposed to be iconic for the series. That said, he has no chance of beating Leon Kennedy, and this match will be all about watching the percentages.

Leon S. Kennedy

The character responsible for putting Resident Evil back on the map. The last "favorite RE character" poll showed Leon imposing his will on characters we've already seen do very well in round 1. Granted all three of them have probably improved their stock since then, but Leon would probably still win that poll and has to be the strongest character from the series. I'd rank Leon as a fairly high midcarder. Though he came up short during the last contest against Dante, I don't think he's all that far behind him. His continued relevance was proven when Resident Evil 4 came up as the runner-up to FFX in the best game of the decade poll. This is still a game and a character fresh on people's minds and his performance should be in line with the masterful work RE has done in round 1. He's going to be impressive. Even so, it's not easy to score very high with how the site is today apparently.

Vault Boy

Mascot for... well, Vault. People are somehow suggesting he's going to break 40% on Leon now? I find this hard to believe, considering he failed to impress in the vote in, not even able to top HK-47 despite having no other joke entry to hold him back. I saw Albion comparing him to Missingno. in the stats topic and almost fell out of the chair... very ridiculous. Long story short, I predict this to be a joke character much like Sandal (yes, I realize he was 'joke SFFed' to some degree). While his image is a little more comical for the match, he isn't a blob of pixels or a geometric shape. Those are proven strength joke entries. Things like Midgar Zolom and Sandal are epic fodder and only something that someone who played their respective games would "get". Even then they probably wouldn't be inclined to vote for it. Vault Boy may have somewhat of an advantage over those two, but there's no way I can see him doing that well on Leon. I'd love to know what people were basing this on, especially after what Resident Evil has done in round 1.
