That said, how has Sonic team confirmed it's '4 way suckiness'? Tails held Kratos down fairly well, Dissidia boost put Cecil up there with Knux, and Lightning is completely untested.

Lightning, as of now, is no different from Sackboy. And she still embarrassed Sonic. Tails is one of the weakest characters ever, and the reason that he did so well on Kratos is a Kratos flop.

Like I said -- you guys are unwilling to look at possibilities of characters being a certain strength, so you automatically try and say their opponent is weak.

Again, explain to me how there is no way for Lightning to have strength? What prevents her from say, being as strong as Cid?

Squall would definitely demolish Sonic. This is not at all arguable, because you have to consider that he came within 3% of Sonic's % on Snake in 2k6, got very close to him after Brawl hype in 2k7, and has had no reason to drop thanks to Dissidia and the PSN release of FF8. Remember, 2k7 R1 Sonic wasn't just bad: he was *pathetic*. 2k8 Sonic was close to those levels too. Consider that so far Needlemouse hasn't built up ANY hype, and if Squall and Sonic met tomorrow, I'd take Squall to obliterate the Blue Blur on a match of any length except for the morning vote.

PS: Saying Lightning has no strength is moronic, though. FFXIII might be FF: Death Magnetic edition, but a sell-in still sells, and it still gives strength to its lead. I'd take her over several midcarders in a heartbeat.

Tifa is definitely NOT that good. She couldn't come too close to Sonic in 2k5, and she's got less stuff than Squall since and less innate strength than Vincent.

Eh, Tifa's 2k5 match against Sonic happened before Advent Children, while Vincent's 2k5 Crono match happened after it. It's a little hard to compare them. The only other Tifa matches we have were the wacky Female bracket and a couple Sephiroth SFF matches. I would probably take Vincent over her, but that match is hardly set in stone.

He's faced Link and Mario 1v1 a total of 5 times, and in 2 out of those 5 matches, major new games (SMS and TP) were released for the Nintendo character on the day of the match. In the entire span of 1v1 contests prior to this one, only 3 main line Mario or Zelda games were released......and 2 of them just happened to be on days when their respective star was facing Cloud on Gamefaqs!

Falcon 2007 and 2008 have so much LFF in them that there's no point in even looking at them. He's probably stronger than the guy who got tripled by Crono now, thanks to Brawl, but I doubt it's a whole lot more.

Analysis

Another simple match, both characters were from the same eight-pack with one clearly being stronger than the other and with nothing new for the weaker character. The only thing worth discussing is the possibility of SFF and what kind of percent Riku finishes with.

Time was terrible to Ramza in his return in the previous contest. Roughly equalling to Laharl and losing to a World of Warcraft raid was nowhere close to his performance against Kirby in 2003. The games contest showed further proof of his decline with the once equal Metal Gear Solid destroying its former opponent in the first round.

Some people say that SFF is possible since both characters are Square, but I think the SFF will be minimal or even non-existent. Riku and Ramza have nothing in common. Ramza has never been in a Kingdom Hearts game and was only really popular in the original Playstation. Also his game has little to do with Final Fantasy and was more of a game that was given that title so that it can sell more copies meaning I believe fewer Final Fantasy fans played this game relative to other titles.

Since the previous contest Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days has been released though looking at Roxas’ match it doesn’t seem like it did anything for him. Heavy may have had reason to boost, but Riku’s involvement in the game makes me feel that any kind of boost would be minimal at best.

Riku shouldn’t have a problem winning though he needs to put up at least a decent performance due to Captain Falcon waiting in the sidelines for an upset. Ramza I feel could have been a decent entrant had he participated in earlier contests, but today all he does is fill out the roll of fodder.

That's about the only notable thing here. Ramza lost last year to something called Hogger and almost lost to Laharl. Riku had a nice performance in his last 1v1 against Yoshi but has looked pretty average ever since. Riku is the clear winner here, but by how much?

I think by a lot. I have never had respect for Ramza's contest strength. He got wiped by Kirby during Square's best year and has looked bad ever since. Riku may not be great, but at least he's relevant: Ramza is the definition of niche these days. Zidane would crush him.

You know, I guess it's a good thing that Ramza will never win a match, because the dude appears to have only one picture. Ramza somehow manages to make it into the contest again this year, after an embarassing loss to Hogger last time. Sora and Roxas have both looked pretty good so far this year, and Riku was already a number of steps ahead of Ramza in the first place, so this will be an easy win for the dude.

We have a very long stretch of boring matches ahead of us, reminiscent of the Female Bracket. This bracket started off well, but now I’m wishing that we had switched a few of those interesting matches from the first few divisions to the next week. Riku looked great in 2006, and looked like he fell off considerably in the last 2 years of 4-ways, but it shouldn’t matter, because he has an easy win over Ramza.

Once upon a time in the land of SquareFAQs before the rise of Nintendo, Ramza lost to Kirby. More recently, Ramza lost to Hogger and barely beat Laharl. The night match will help a bit…..maybe he can escape the doubling.

Guest’s Analysis - marsman57

This is a fairly straightforward match as well as Sora's match. Riku pretty much has a lock on it as far as I am concerned. I can see it as feasible for him to make it to Cloud before jobbing out.

While Final Fantasy Tactics had a very impressive showing against Metal Gear Solid in 2004, Ramza himself has never won anything. He lost to Kirby in 2003 with an almost identical percentage as Tidus did in 2005 and Rikku did this year. This might trick you into thinking the three characters have equal strength since, I may be wrong, but I think Kirby's popularity over the years has been pretty consistent. Also, this is interesting as Rikku did put up 58.28% on Kairi in 2006.

Let us not kid ourselves though, Riku is easily much more powerful than Kairi and Ramza is almost equally weaker than Rikku if they met in a match. Also, remember that Ramza only barely outdid Laharl of all people in 4-way competition.

Contest-wise Riku has relatively strong showings against Frog and Yoshi under his belt as well as making it to third round in 2007.

This is a night vote which I think will give Ramza a bit of a boost, but not enough to overcome.
