Its
trends looked awful though. It went dead even with Chrono Trigger and
Final Fantasy VI during the ASV. That's as bad as it gets! Trends do
not equal strength, but a shift in trends implies a shift in the
fanbase......and getting worse at the day vote is a sign of aging and
weakening. Also, I'm of the opinion that CT and SSBM massively overperformed on FFVII in 2004, so FFVII and OOT were always miles above the field. It was just like the Villains Contest and Female Bracket.....once OOT was out of the way, people voted against the obvious favorite en masse. CT/FFVII had ridiculous trends too that confirmed that, with CT leading for an hour and then collapsing all day, whereas OOT I think didn't even hold the lead for 5 minutes. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

Big
Boss beating Edgeworth of all people doesn't really make up for
everything else. Just like Zack doesn't really make up for FFVII

But heck, Cloud and Seph were getting tooled in the 4ways even before the game contest, so maybe the characters are faltering at an accelerated pace. Still, we've had these talks before, and they usually just make us look silly in the end. Yeah,
Liquid's the only MGS character who has bombed relative to expectations
so far, but he's like Kefka. You never know what's going to happen when

I'm of the opinion that CT and SSBM massively overperformed on FFVII in 2004 I may not have been here, but I agree. The Boss and Big Boss looked fine. Ocelot and Liquid have always been huge wildcards in what they're going to do. --- Demyx is better than Axel. |

I'd
say that Cloud might get 3% from where he is now. Don't forget he STILL
hasn't even gotten a 70% update. Its a lot easier to go up in

Took
55 minutes just for Cloud to break 70% on an update. We'll be seeing a
lot of that overnight and Cloud might be able to shoot for 80% updates

I'm
just saying, if FFVII is apparently on a downward spiral and has looked
terrible this contest, there's no way you look at Metal Gear and go
'hey, not bad SNAKE UPSET.' In my mind, Ocelot losing to Red, The Boss
barely beating Nathan Drake, and Liquid getting rocked by Altair isn't
much better than Cid not meeting largely unrealistic expectations and

HM, but it's a lot better. Ocelot was a decisive underdog. Not only did
he nearly pull through, but Mewtwo and especially Charizard have
already begun to validate Red by having great performances. Boss's
match was a 50/50 debate, and she pulled through. When it's 50/50, it's
kinda hard to call a win "bad." She got the job done. Liquid bombed and
I won't offer any excuses, but Big Boss had one of the round's most

Every sentence he spoke involved a pause, and for the most part he had his Advent Children personality. He was not exactly bringing in any new fans and a lot of his old fans were upset that they decided to go the AC/KH route with him again. (myself included) |

Last year's Cloud vs Midna: Cloud at 01:00: 71.26% Cloud at 12:00: 73.98% Against Ridley: Cloud at 01:00: 67.66% 70% should be pretty safe for Cloud but I don't think he's going much higher than 71%. --- Mustache...and Green... |

Big
Boss's match is really the only thing that pushes in MGS's favor. The
Boss, Ocelot, and Liquid weren't any more impressive than what we've
seen from FFVII to me. Certainly not to the point of talking about
silly Snake upsets -- but I know people like to rally behind Snake

Yeah,
MGS > FF7 so far. We put Cid on too high of a pedestal, but he still
didn't do that well and Cloud really should be doing a lot better here.
Ridley was expected to get 24.66% on Sephiroth in the Villain Contest,
where Ganon hulked up in the championship against Seph. If Ganon should
have done worse and Cloud would have done better (hint: both are true),
the beating becomes worse. I'm all for SSBB boosting Ridley (don't
forget he had TWO boss-fights -- the only boss with that claim, if it
means anything) and we should probably give Cloud and the rest of our
major players a break for R1. That said, this is still a poor
