A
lot of people seem to think of Sonic 4 as a dream come true, so yeah, I
think it could potentially decrease the amount of anti-votes. Too bad it wasn't revealed earlier. Tails could have beaten Kratos! --- The above statement is hyperbole. Seriously, Kratos is bad, but not that bad... |

I'm
not sure how much this means for Altair. You gotta consider how weak
Liquid can really be.. I don't buy Simon being anywhere near him, let
alone stronger. So I think Altair is just that much stronger than Ezio. --- http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2010/02/500x_sonic4.jpg Albion Hero is the Cream of Loli Fanboyism |

8 knows how to make some sick Vivi pics, and the black/fire (I'm
assuming he'll get something like that) will contrast starkly with

think this match has more to do with Ezio sucking, and doesn't really
have a bearing on Altair's performance. Vivi could win that match, but
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really worried about it. --- If you're seeing this sig, I'm not on my computer! |

I
don't expect anything from Sonic 4. It's downloadable and we've seen
what that means for MM9 and FF4:TAY, Sonic's name has been tarnished
for over a decade, and it's not even like Sonic's 2D-games are strong. That said, I'm looking forward to the game. It just doesn't have room to save Sonic -- he's in a position where it's going to take more than a good game to save him, especially a downloadable game. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

Sonic
4 will, hopefully, restore Sonic to his former glory (perhaps even
boost it) and put him up as #4 in the Noble Nine (which will no longer
exist after this contest, but still!) Also I came on expecting to see Ezio catastropheing Simon like 90 - 10...and see this? Now from what I understand there was a glitch, and there's been some irregular voting patterns. I call shenanigans on this match. Plus like I said before -- Ezio would rely a lot on his image to win matches. They look nearly identical in those pictures. It's unfortunate. Although it does seem like Altair is stronger (unless Belmont has received a significant boost, and the vote in polls can be taken somewhat seriously.) Although to be honest, I put about as much stock in those as I do four ways. Ezio should be able to rebound nicely as the day goes on, and even break 60% I think. But it's definitely hurt my confidence in him beating Zelda. We'll just have to see and hope for the best. At least there won't be any picture overlap in their face match. --- Curt - PSN - CPhoenixM I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul. |

It
was an exaggeration. However, I still think it's a bit premature to
write off Ezio. When was the last time we saw Simon in a 1v1. They're
both badasses so badass overlap too. Haha...oh well, I can still hope. It ain't over until Ezio loses. His chances might be slim, but I'll try to have a little faith. Altair won't lose to Vivi though. far as I understand seeding means nothing, except if it is a 1 seed. And

With the exception of Master Chief, the two-seeds have been really weird this year. Nathan Drake got a substantial boost, but still lost to The Boss. Altair, who by all means should no longer be relevant, thrashed Liquid Snake. Kratos almost let Tails break 40% on him. Ezio is laying a huge egg against Simon. Heck, even Chief's performance could be seen as a surprise, depending on how much faith you had in Spy. I
think Sonic 4 could do a lot for Sonic. I don't have time for details,
but everyone has been complaining about his games as of late -- this is
a throwback to the old times. It would be cool if they did it sort of
SFIV-esque and had 3D backgrounds. Make the game visually stimulating,
but stick to the old school (with some new stuff thrown in.) I think if
they do this right, and release a couple more Sonic will be boomin'. --- Curt - PSN - CPhoenixM I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul. |

Sorry for reposting that - just wanted to touch a few things up. I'm sort of nitpicky about that. Since when are big action game stars from 2007 not considered relevant? Not to mention he had a new PSP game in 2009. He didn't do incredibly well or anything during the last contest (The Duke beat him, after all), and prior to the bracket reveal, I heard a lot more about Ezio. So, it seemed logical to me that Altair would have gone down quite a bit in strength... and then he ripped Liquid Snake a new one. Completely threw me for a loop. I
think Ezio's problem is having a name and character. Altair is for all
purposes the nameless poster boy for the series, and a lot of his
strength comes from character design and badassery. Ezio just can't
catch lightning in a bottle like Altair can. Trying to think of another series where something like this holds true. Didn't
Ezio dominate a GameSpot poll for character of the year? Between that,
seeing Altair impress, and having both Altair and Ezio be two-seeds
despite only having one game each and coming from the same new
series...not to mention we've never seen Simon be better than pitiful
in real matches (not to mention Castlevania 3 in BGE2!), plus this is a
day-match... ...I mean, this is disappointing in pretty much every aspect. I thought Altair and Ezio were leaning on each other for strength, but this makes it looks like Altair's the only real beneficiary in that relationship unless Simon beats Liquid...and considering we've seen Liquid beat Alucard before, that's a tough pill to swallow. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

I
think that Sonic 4 has much more potential to do something than Mega
Man 9. Mega Man had already been out of the gaming limelight for almost
10 years when he had our first contest, and Sonic's only really been
fading since 2006 and his bomb of a game was released. There's a short
enough time here where Sonic could bounce back in a way that Mega Man
will probably always struggle to. --- "Just, one more thing... the people and the friends that we have lost, or the dreams that have faded... Never forget them. "--Yuna Yesmar |

Nero. Perfect example. Looks like a Dante, walks like a Dante, talks like a Dante, fights like a Dante, but he ain't Dante. DMC4 mad underrated, by the way. Nero is very fun to play as, and I would have accepted Dante not being playable. They shoehorned Dante into the game and reused the levels backwards, when they had a really good thing going on. Jumping high in the air and spamming XOXOXOXO was ridiculous, among a lot of other things he could do. Dante was cool, but he felt out of place in his own series. --- `·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.~*ST*~.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´`·.,¸¸,.·´ If you establish wrist control you can quickly rob the bank. |

I'm voting Vivi next round. I had Liquid Snake going to round 3 anyway (ah Liquid you really killed my confidence in you) --- 33/39 points - The Great GameFAQs Character Battle VIII NP: Zelda > Travis Touchdown | Ezio Auditore di Firenze > Simon Belmont |
TsunamiXXVIII | Posted 2/4/2010 12:04:30 PM | message detail |
This doesn't mean anything for Liquid, because characters =/= games
and therefore we have no way of comparing Ezio and Altair. It's
possible that they're around the same strength, but it's also possible
that Ezio is far weaker than Altair. Wasn't Magus hyped as
being a title contender in his debut in '03 because Crono had done so
well in '02 and everyone figured Magus would be even stronger than
Crono? It didn't work out that way, and when we finally got to see the
two of them head-to-head, Magus was barely even able to break 30%. All
that this match proves is that Ezio is the type of character that gets
56% when facing the likes of Simon Belmont, which means he's not a
threat to join the top ranks of the midcarders--or any ranks, for that
matter--soon. Well, at least that's what we think it means. We
have only a small sample of data for Simon as well, and his only 1v1
result is a loss to a Noble Niner, although his last-place finish in a
four-way that featured Sam Fisher and Raiden would suggest that he's
not great. Technically, it's possible that we haven't got a good read
on either of these characters, but most likely, Zelda's going to beat
Ezio fairly easily. --- CB8 record through 39 matches: 34-7 Incorrect picks: Ocelot, Wesker, Fawful, Tidus (2 rounds), Phoenix (2 rounds) |

I can now do my next Battle of the Bands without worrying about some butthurt kid crying across 4 boards over every result. You know, speaking of that, have you ever considered re-hauling the format similar to the current character battle? 128 entries, 12 hour matches? I think that'd be a nice change of pace, and would also allow for a bit more diversity of bands. Just a thought. --- Elephant Talk: A New Kind Of Music Blog! http://elephantmusictalk.blogspot.com/ |
