The Tales of Symphonia sequel is widely regarded as an abomination, so I doubt it'd do anything for Kratos or Lloyd.

Widely regarded my ass. It's very polarising, but ultimately its haters are a vocal minority-it's fairly well received by user scores and did decently critically. Sure, it has a lot of haters on THIS BOARD, but this is Board 8 we're talking about.

But Kratos was only in it as the narrator anyway so yeah. Lloyd's large part, at least, should boost him a little.

Again, you guys are thinking about this the wrong way.

Whether a sequel will have any boost on the strength of its characters has little to do with how well the sequel was received. The real question is, did the sequel sell to anyone outside the fanbase of the original game? This is why Snake boosted from Brawl while almost no one else did.

I think with Tales of Symphonia 2, the answer is a pretty clear "no".

As for Sackboy.... LBP was regarded as a disappointment.

I've seen people say this, but I'm not sure where exactly it's coming from. There were some people who didn't like LBP, no doubt, but a whole lot of people did, both on FAQs and abroad. MyGames isn't the best argument, but it got high scores from users here -- and critically, it was one of the top games in 08. As far as LBP's relevancy, I'd agree it's faded, but not more than any other game from 2008. And for whatever it's worth, Sackboy didn't have any trouble getting into the contest more than a year after his game. Not using that as a positive in his favor for the match or anything, but if LBP was that irrelevant and disliked, I doubt he makes it in.

I'd imagine recency for characters that are about to fade in to obscurity is beneficial to their strength whether the game attracts a new audience or not.

Yeah I have to agree with whoever said that it feels like Nathan Drake v2. I don't think LittleBigPlanet would have done any better if Uncharted 2 would have swapped years with it; Sackboy's going to have to rely on appeal here.
