I used to think a few years ago that Kefka sucked because he looked like a clown. Clowns scare the hell out of little kids, without kiddy support, you are never gonna be a true powerhouse. But yay, Dissidia giving kefka some good pics. --- Shakes Fist! |

I'm
actually pretty stunned that Sub-Zero isn't getting over 55% here,
especially with such an overwhelming pic advantage for him and the fact
that I really didn't have much respect for Tidus to begin with. Recapping on last matches... okay, Charizard in R4 looks more likely. Though I'm loathe to trust Duke after what I just saw Jill Valentine of all people do to Niko. Kratos making Tails look like the most impressive Sonic character of the round more than makes up for that, though. --- turnturnturn your brain in http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/020/b/f/Ariel_by_lolita_art.jpg |

thing that confuses me about Kefka/Arthas is, without granting Kefka a

Varia Division: Round 1 - Match 37 – (3) Phoenix Wright vs. (14) Jecht Moltar’s Analysis Phoenix OBJECTION! How did Phoenix end up with a 3 seed?! Jecht Here’s a guy who’s weak as sin. Remember what I said last match about being a character in the vote-in poll and how that’s a disadvantage? ‘whoops’ Anyway, Jecht was a vote-in character too, and luckily, he’s got a weak opponent! Phoenix may have looked really good in 1 match last year, but that was just one match. One match where Luigi and Bowser wrecked each other allowing Liquid, who looked like poop this year, to win. I’m not buying that Phoenix has strength because of that match when he has 3 other matches in which he looked like high fodder. Edgeworth bombed against Snake Boss, but that doesn’t really matter. Phoenix is far stronger than his games and likely to be a low midcarder these days. He is also strong enough to potentially win this match if Jecht flops. Speaking of Jecht, I have no idea how the guy does. Everything from FF10 that’s not a blue fin has had decent strength. Jecht probably won’t match Yuna or Rikku or Tidus, but he should be strong enough to beat Phoenix in a fairly close match. Moltar’s Bracket: Jecht > Phoenix Moltar’s Prediction: Phoenix: 45% - Jecht: 55% Lopen’s Analysis Okay okay. Check this out: "What did Phoenix Wright say to Tidus when he couldn't understand the Japanese version of FFX?" DUB, JECHT'S SON! Yeahhhh. Probably screwed that up but the moral of the story is "I hate you, Wigs." On the surface it seems obvious. You've got a dude from the GAME OF THE DECADE vs... well, Phoenix Wright. But then you consider that Phoenix Wright led Magus (stop laughing!) for an hour, beat Bomberman, got 43% on Gordon Freeman, and did well against Bowser and Luigi last year. After seeing all these FFX characters be duds relative to my expectations, I'm liking Phoenix Wright to win more and more. I mean, to me, Tidus and Yuna seem like ~25% on BL characters. Phoenix Wright has at least looked around the low 20s in the past. So even assuming that Phoenix Wright is only as good as he's seemed in the past, Jecht has an uphill battle here. But Phoenix Wright seems like one of those series that will just keep getting stronger and stronger as word of mouth pushes it around. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who doesn't like the games, so what I'm saying is the Phoenix Wright we see here will be the strongest we've seen yet. Which will be enough to squeak by Jecht. Pickin against my bracket here. Lopen's prediction: Phoenix Wright with 52.45% Transience’s Analysis By any reasonable expectation, Jecht takes this match. FFX is way better known than Phoenix Wright is. Jecht is a likable character, is playable in Dissidia (probably not much of a factor, but I'll list it among his positives), and did pretty well in that vote-in poll. No FFX character has ever truly bombed - Sin was a gelatinous mass with no personality and still almost beat Dr. Robotnik. Jecht could be as strong as Rikku, but not any weaker than Sin. He shouldn't even be close to Sin. He's an NPC, but a very likable one. Phoenix has looked stronger and stronger every year, but I'm pretty sure a large part of that is the fourway format. There is no way Phoenix is as strong as he's looked, and he still isn't really all that strong. He's got a pretty strong night vote, but FFX has perhaps the best night vote around so that won't be able to save him here. If Jecht is close to Rikku -- and if the vote-in poll is any indication, he is -- then Phoenix has zero chance. |
Master Moltar | Posted 2/2/2010 7:59:19 PM | message detail |
If
there's one thing I've learned from new FF characters in these
contests, it's that the cool ones stand out no matter the situation.
Vincent is optional? Doesn't matter, he still is a top 10 guy on this
site. Zack has 2-3 scenes in FF7 and a PSP exclusive game? He still
rocks Yuna. Jecht is cut from this same mold and he should have no
trouble dispatching Phoenix. So yeah, I'm picking Phoenix. Why? DFF -- DR FOOTBALL FACTOR. I refuse to go against this dude until he misses a match. I also refuse to go against Phoenix Wright against a damn FF NPC. Screw you, Final Fantasy. This is Phoenix goddamn Wright. transience's prediction: Phoenix Wright with 50.01% Ngamer’s Analysis Fantastical writeup coming soon! Ngamer Says: Jecht > Phoenix, 56.09% Kleenex’s Analysis What a dilemma this match is. I've got Jecht in my bracket. I think Jecht will probably win. But I can't, in all good conscience, root against Phoenix. Phoenix has gone from a semi-joke to a character with legit trends and even ends up above the fodder line! Jecht is the unknown quantity here, so where do we peg him? Tidus would beat Phoenix, so how close is Jecht to Tidus? I'd say they're probably about even. Sure, there's always the BUT HE'S NEVER GOTTEN IN BEFORE NOW, but in the lol vote-in polls, he did about as well on Sub-Zero as Tidus did yesterday. I feel dirty making this pick, but I can't decide if I want to be wrong or not. Should have put Phoenix against some other crappy fodder instead! Bracket: Jecht Favorites: Phoenix Wright Prediction: Jecht with 51.23% Red Sox’s Analysis I took Phoenix Wright in my bracket, and it feels a lot like a “hope for the best” kind of pick, where I ignore reality and take a possible but unlikely upset. Phoenix Wright has as much of an advantage as anyone can get from this format, with a 12-hour night match, where his top of the line early vote will be able to used to full effect. His early vote really is top of the line- he was leading Magus, a CT character, for half an hour before ending up losing to him 57/43. Unfortunately, Phoenix just isn’t very strong. He was nearly doubled by Bowser last year in a 4-way in which he was potentially overrated, as Geno was in the poll. His most glorious contest moment is losing to Magus 57/43. Back in 2006, he put up 42% on Gordon Freeman, which is a decent performance, but that was before Gordon boosted massively-that Gordon was around Duke Nukem’s level, placing Phoenix below bathrobe Kefka. Jecht did well in the vote-in polls, but I think he’ll be pretty weak too. I doubt he’s worth more than 40% on Tidus, but he doesn’t have to be to win this match. I would take Frog over Jecht, and I’m not sure about whether I’d take Kefka with his old pics over Jecht or not. Unfortunately Phoenix probably loses to both in not-so-close matches. His amazing early vote is his biggest hope here, but it only lasts a short time, and then he will fall hard. If the match is close, Phoenix will probably win, but I cannot really see Phoenix winning this one by a large margin, whereas I can easily see Jecht winning big. So, I hope I’m wrong right now, but I’m going to go against my bracket for the first time and predict: Prediction: Jecht with 53.00% Upset Potential: 40% Upper Bound: Jecht with 60% Lower Bound: Phoenix with 53% Guest’s Analysis - paulg235 This writeup's going to be a lot more smaller than I originally tended it to be, but it's less than 2 hours when I started writing. Anyway, now that we've got that tossup match out of the way, we have... another tossup match? |

How well does Kratos do? Kratos gets stomped because it is Mario. Now, if it were a high-tier but not near-Noble character it would be Kratos all the way. But, Mario... --- ...Just repeat to yourself / It's just a show / I should really just relax... |

Master Moltar | Posted 2/2/2010 8:00:13 PM | message detail |
Well,
it seems Jecht is the favourite, but Tidus losing to Sub-Zero doesn't
give me confidence in him winning. In fact, FFX's yet to win a damn
thing so far in this contest. We're pretty much relying on the
"DISSIDIA boost" to give Jecht the win, here. It's seemed to have
helped Cecil and Kefka, but Tidus doesn't seem affected by it. Phoenix
Wright's been in three contests prior and has a 3 seed to his name
which will help boost his chances. While Jecht has a (small) chance, I
think people are overrating him here and he'll be closer to Sin's
strength than Rikku/Tidus's, here. Phoenix Wright's good start will
likely give him the win here. Bracket: Phoenix Wright Prediction: Phoenix Wright - 51.76% Crew Consensus: Phoenix has some support, but Jecht is the favorite. |
