Even still, it's not like Roxas/Heavy was hyped, Roxas is some hated character, Heavy is any more loved than Spy, or that we suspect rallying right off the bat for any other match.

In any case, will somebody check to see when the 4chan-topics were made?

There is definitely rallying, but 1400 votes in an hour with the morning vote yet to come is almost impossible.

And it seems pretty obvious that there's some sort of rallying going on. It seems like it'd be unnatural for Heavy to be able to turn around 60/40 to cutting so quickly. We usually don't see such a drastic shift in trends.

The main problem with this effort is that 1. All of the rallying is coming from North America, and we're going to go to bed soon 2. Asia voting block is coming up in a few hours 3. 1400 vote difference.

I still don't think we have ourselves a match, but I think rallies in this format are way easier than what people went through during the GameSpot contest. You've only gotta keep it up for twelve hours, not six freakin days. You're telling me Valve fans can't get Heavy over this hump if they work at it for several more hours? They've got the dead vote on their side and they don't have to exert themselves for too long.

Granted, it's much harder to reverse an 80/20 like they did with Chief/Bub, but I think rallies and comebacks are plenty possible in this format.

I have neither!

And yeah, things are looking plenty suspicious now with that cut. It's still really odd to see rallying in this match. I guess TF2-fans are cheaters...which makes TF2 look even worse in BGE2!

Less time is not at all better, especially given how well GameFAQs prevents stuffing now. You're not spiking here unless you're being rallied legit.

That's weird. I heard sometime around the start of the contest that they had the same anti-vote stuffing measures in place that GameFAQs uses. Which should have meant that proxy votes wouldn't have been accepted. Guess not.

Unless you're getting linked on homepages (something which only occurs VERY rarely), rallying takes effort. The longer you have to keep that effort going, the tougher it'll be. Link would have probably come back and beaten L-Block in 2007 had that match lasted a week.

Oh, comebacks are possible, as Red/Ocelot proved.

I just don't think we'll see many huge comebacks as we're used to, and I don't think rallies will have the same effect here as they did on Gamespot, where they took some random nobody and turned him from ~5% to ~35% on Cloud and where they got B&B past Master Chief and Sonic, not to mention Gordon Freeman rallying his way through Snake, Link, and Mario. We've never seen rallying have anywhere close to that large an effect during any GameFAQs match. Even right now, Roxas is still gaining votes on Heavy despite rallying, and if anyone's vote updates are inconsistent here, it's Roxas's.

Rallying means jack **** on GameFAQs unless it's a 51/49 match.

HaRRicH | Posted 2/1/2010 10:12:00 PM | message detail
4chan started turning on itself when they had to rally for B&B like eighteen days straight or something. They went from embarrassing MC to squeaking by Sonic to being caught cheating trying to beat Samus, and eventually 4chan started rallying for Samus just to stop all the B&B-topics.

Less time means less opportunity to rally the troops, but if you're looking for the long-term then asking for some help every now and then's better than a lot of help at once. Then again, this format doesn't use the crappy scheduling GameSpot used, so that's not much of an issue.

They said they did. I'm guessing they decided to change it a bit from the GameFAQs version. We never see any cheating in the GameFAQs Contest as blatant as in the GameSpot contest.
