From: MarioSuperstar | #098 Well, you've gotta wonder where you draw the "rally line." If Spy was at 45% right now, would that be close enough to convince the Valve/TF2 faithful to really rally? --- Yoblazer: http://i33.tinypic.com/ml36gl_th.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Man, Heavy is beasting these percentage cuts. At the rate we're going, there's nothing that can happen now or in 12 hours that could make Roxas anything but a huge underdog. --- Yoblazer: http://i29.tinypic.com/dqhyf5.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Heavy still hasn't broken 45% in an update yet, and the lead is up to 1192, so a comeback seems just about impossible. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

Based
on last year's trends, TF2 characters are very, very night oriented.
They dropped like a rock once we hit the day last year. Which makes what Spy did against Chief all the more perplexing. --- "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!" |

I mean, Roxas is doing worse in North America than Europe. Let me repeat that: a Kingdom Hearts character is doing worse against a PC character in North America than Europe. Heavy is probably being rallied right now. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |

Roxas
is probably going to finish the Power Hour around a 1500 vote lead.
That means he'll probably have at least a 2000 vote lead by 2 AM. Heavy
shouldn't be able to begin making consistent cuts until after 3 AM, or
more likely, past 4 AM or never. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

I'm
not even convinced Heavy's being rallied right now. I doubt many people
are going to be on the Steam forums, especially now. Even if Valve
linked the match on Steam, it won't do much for Heavy when most people
are asleep, and they probably won't get on Steam in the morning since
they have to go to school/work. Just saying, rallying likely won't actually work unless it's a day match, and even then it won't be that strong. Plus Heavy's percentage gains are more a decrease in Roxas's votes than Heavy gaining votes. --- Not Wylvane |
red sox 777 | Posted 2/1/2010 9:54:14 PM | message detail |
So the rallying has probably already started then? --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

Actually,
I think this match was already beating all of those at the 5 minutes
mark. So we just have higher votals tonight for whatever reason. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

Well,
it seems unlikely they were rallying in the first 5 minutes. Although,
it's possible that we had higher than normal votals AND rallying. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |
HaRRicH | Posted 2/1/2010 9:57:29 PM | message detail |
Yeah,
but rallying usually doesn't start in the first five minutes, plus
Heavy started off poorly in comparison to where he's at now. With the
vote total being that low, rallying should have influenced it a lot
more. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

Rallying can very easily start in the first five minutes. Then it would get far more pronounced as the match would go no, which it is. --- KrahenProphet lived up to his name. |

This
isn't Gamespot. 12 hours is a hell of a lot shorter than a few days,
and even our night matches get more votes than most Gamespot matches.
And even then, 4chan rallying couldn't get Bub & Bob past Samus. You guys seriously overestimate rallying, at least in the sense of rallying during a match. It's much more effective if the character/game has already pulled an impressive performance, allowing word of mouth to spread and get more people behind them to boost their strength in future rounds. You know, the kind of hype that boosted entities like Starcraft and L-Block. But you're not going to see, say, L-Block going from 2007 R1 self to 2007 Semi-Final self during one match. Even 4chan can't accomplish much here other than boosting Battletoads to win some poll nobody gave two ****s about. They certainly didn't get Battletoads to advance! --- Not Wylvane |
HaRRicH | Posted 2/1/2010 10:01:04 PM | message detail |
Even
still, it's not like Roxas/Heavy was hyped, Roxas is some hated
character, Heavy is any more loved than Spy, or that we suspect
rallying right off the bat for any other match. In any case, will somebody check to see when the 4chan-topics were made? --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |
