I don't know where you guys get this info about who is a "day" character and who is a "night" character. I would have thought Tidus would be better in the day, and subby at night, but some of you guys are saying exactly the opposite, so I'm pretty confused.

Years of watching matches and how the percent changes thoughout the day.

Character Battle VIII - 26/34 - Today's Winners: Roxas and Sub-Zero

As someone with Roxas in their bracket, if Subby ends this with 55% or so (which it looks like he might), there's no way Roxas will be able to match that.

I'm feeling pretty confident about Jecht winning tonight, I'm just glad I get to enjoy the perfect bracket for another 12 hours, and stay in a tie for 1st in the guru

No, hush. I think this match may show that Jecht isn't getting as much of a boost as Kefka and Cecil. Plus, Phoenix has his Wiiware game. Plus Phoenix Wright must win

Dissidia boost is overrated. Cecil did well because Knux just isn't strong anymore. Arthas was overrated by 4-way stats. There is a boost but it's not boosting Kefka from a loss to a 60% win.

I did North America gets 70% in the night and 80% in the day
Europe gets 18% at night and 12% at day

The others shift about 2%.

Nice. When you say night, you mean our night?(midnight-noon)

So in a match like this where NA is SZ 54/46 and Europe is 46/54(current numbers, small sample size at this point, examples sake), those numbers would peg a NA/Europe only match at

Day: SZ wins 48.7%-43.3% = Net 5.4%
Night: SZ wins 46.1%-41.9% = Net 4.2%

So the difference is just above 1% with split difference in such an example. If the differences in voting patterns b/w Europe/NA are larger than this, it can have even a larger effect.

Obviously, this is super simplistic, and doesn't account for the fact that voting patterns change within NA and Europe themselves because of whether the match is day or night, but it pretty much confirms what we already know - it only makes a difference if the splits are pronounced or if the match was close in the first place.

I actually don't think Phoenix's board vote will be *as* crazy as many are expecting. Seems like quite a few early voters are still voting with their brackets. I doubt that'll really change until we're well into Round 2 or 3.

Well, let's discuss the important thing: Dissidia. Did Tidus not benefit from it when we've seen Kefka and Cecil definitely benefit from it, are we left in indecision like we kinda are with Zidane, or is Sub-Zero looking pretty damn good?

I haven't played the full game yet, but I did download the Dissidia demo.

Tidus is always going to be the whiner of the FF world, no matter what specialty games SE puts him in. And because of that, I think, he's not going to really increase by much unless he's given a complete makeover.

On the other hand, Kefka [in Dissidia] was a total freakin beast. It's the first time you really get to see him in all his 3D glory, and not only does he look maniacally awesome, but he has a fantastic move list that makes him a terror to play against.

I'm not really sure what Cecil looks like in that game, so I can't speak for him.

That's just my view on the whole "Dissidia boost" topic.

Eh, the ASV difference between Tidus and Sub-Zero wasn't too large to start with, and the ASV has been badly hamstrung by the 12-hour format this year. Tidus can hope he's getting the standard bad FF early vote, although as he's falling not rising right now, that's probably hopeless.

I think the only reason people debated Scorp/Subz was because Scorpion made the contest first. I still have no flippin' idea how that happened. For me, that debate has always been as simple as blue>yellow. Seriously, how many people like yellow more than blue? If Scorpion was red, it would be closer.

Yes, I'm completely serious and you all know it's true.

Well, let's wait and see how Jecht does tonight first. If he rips Phoenix a new one, then we can start wondering.

And KP was just talking to me about this on AIM, but this match tonight is important for Jecht. If he wins, he may become a contest mainstay. If he loses, we'll probably never see him again.

Completely agree. It persisted even after we saw a MK-poll where Sub-Zero soundly beat Scorpion. The same thing happened with Aeris > Vincent and Tifa until they arrived and kicked ass.

And as much as I love Phoenix, I think I may have to root for Jecht tonight. Phoenix is a 3 Seed; he's not going anywhere anytime soon. If Jecht loses this, we may never see him again - he needs a run to solidify his place in these contests like Mr. Unfair.

Even after 2006, there were still people I remember saying that they're probably equal, which made no sense to me because Sub-Zero got 40% on post-KHII Auron while Scorpion got 35% on him beforehand.

Well, I think that run probably helped to solidify ZackFAQs's place in these contests. I mean, if he loses to Wario in round 1 and somehow fails to get past round 2, we probably don't see him again.

I think it's probably the same for Sub-Zero. If he had lost to MC back in 2006, we may have never seen him again.
