Man, I just want to make the leaderboard once so I can screenshot it. I have 31 points right now but so do 118 others.

Yeah me too, and I changed my bracket really late. I'll need Sub Zero to win to have a good shot at getting on the board. Then I picked Phoenix.. which I am not positive about. If he wins I'll definitely get on the leaderboard.

Ryu beat Dante back in 2003. In 2008, Ryu lost to L-Block and got 42% on Crono, while Dante looked about equal to Kirby.

DMC3 and DMC4 came out, sure, but so did SFIV, dude. SFIV sold more, and is used in tournaments etc. Plus, the marketing was way better, too.

(Also DMC4 is 2 years old now.)

I have Ryu there and I fully admit he's the underdog.

I'm banking on the surplus of Street Fighter related stuff that's come out since we last saw him. Street Fighter HD, MvC2 on XBLA, Street Fighter 4, and this Tatsaswetaseuk vs Capcom game. Ryu has definitely come back into the limelight after essentially being out of it since the early 90's. Whereas Dante hasn't had anything in what, 2 years? And even then, DMC4 was such a quiet release for whatever reason.

Ryu also beat Bowser in a fair match, while Dante lost to Yoshi (last we saw in 1v1s) and Kirby (and would have lost to Luigi if not for that stupid rat GRAAAAH RPGUY SMASH).

On the subject of Auron, Ryu nabbed 42.2% in 2k7 in a fair match, while going through Auron/Sonic and Sonic/Dante gives Dante 40.6%. I can understand having problems with that approach - Dante was way further away wrt to Kirby in that match than the previous match, for example. But Dante also completely folded in 2k7, getting just 30.4% on L and 36.6% on Snake.

I get why Dante's the favorite, but I think Ryu is in the conversation.

Yoshi's day vote is good but not great, and losing 1700 to Yoshi when starting from a tie in 1v1 with the ASV is not bad, really. I'll agree that Ryu's got a shot, though Dante has always seemed the clear favorite to me.

Ryu/Dante is one of those matches that just smells funny. Dante has every reason to win, but I don't think he'll pull it off. I had the same feeling for Dante/Yoshi, and Yoshi pulled it off. Dante does not have a signature 1v1 win.

I never understood why Dante is such a big favourite. Ryu has already won over him once, has a good reason to have boost since the last contest, and well except that he failed to do what Pikachu could do last year he has never looked bad. Sure he lost to Bowser, but that was the same Bowser that came really close to upset Snake. In fact Ryu is known for not allowing any Noble Nine character to break 60% on him.

When was the last time Dante did something impressive? Does barely winning over Masterchief makes his contest career more impressive than Ryu's?.

I'm not saying that Dante can't win, but really Ryu has always seemed like a stronger character to me, and now Ryu got two games that couldn't have made him weaker (Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and Street Fighter IV)
