So who do we guess is stronger here, Wesker or Jill? If Wesker (as he'd be more likely to receive a bigger boost from RE5) who do we have between Ganondorf and Ken? <_< What if Ken is on the same level as Ryu (including boost) does he have a shot at Ganon???

WHO IS ON THE KEN TRAIN??? I am, even if it would hurt my bracket. They'll both lose to Sonic.

Also, I've been dead set on Ryu > Dante/Leon since the beginning.

Oh, and I love the logic behind Ezio. A new character, from the west, has never come in and beaten one of the top 20 characters. It has never happened, therefore it happening isn't possible. Logic = win.

But with that said, the reality is that this contest has so many shifts in userbase, and different boosts that it's very hard to consider any match a lock.

obviously 4chan rallied a lot for spy.. but does heavy have the same rallying appeal for 4chan as Spy? I don't know the TF2 fanbases or what each character means to the fanbase so I dunno. If he does get rallied by 4chan though, I can see him winning

Seems to me that spy would be the strongest TF2 character. Besides that, I think Roxas will impress (maybe to round 3?)

So let's look back at the bottom half of the first division of 2008 again. The characters from that part of the division who have impressed so far in R1 this year were Kefka, Altair, and Isaac...whereas the disappointments we've seen from it are Duke, Niko, and Marth (who I'm including because of the vote-in polls).

Looking at it like this, Kefka and Altair stand out from that half thanks to new games (Dissidia making Kefka relevant again, Altair having a proxy in his game's first sequel). Kefka's Dissidia-boost can be supported by how badly he beat Arthas, Cecil's performance on Knuckles, and perhaps Zidane (though we can't tell at this point). In thirty-six hours, we're also having two more Dissidia-characters in matches to try giving us a better idea. Altair, meanwhile, has minimal referencing in AC2, but Ezio looks a LOT like him and it's probable AC2 helped Altair in the same way MGS3 helped Solid Snake (if not certain at this point). We don't have much to back this up for now other than Altair smashing Liquid Snake and Altair+Ezio each getting two-seeds, but AC's relevance is increasing on this site...

...and Dissidia/AC2 are much bigger than what Duke/Niko/Marth have had since their 2008-matches. I think two GTA4-episodes which I'm not certain starred Niko and Duke Nukem 3D going to Xbox Live Arcade are the only significant things that group has collectively had. It shows, too -- Duke couldn't break 36% on Charizard, Niko might not get 30% against Jill, and Marth lost to Thrall and Peach in the vote-in polls. There are reasons for this, sure (Charizard surprised many of us, Jill/Wesker look stronger after RE5, Marth had Peach and MK to deal with), but ultimately they still look poor.

Kefka and Altair look to be a few leagues past their former opponents at this point, and not just because they smashed Arthas/Liquid anymore. If that division's redone this year, Kefka easily advances to Link/Zack by beating the Duke, and Altair would have looked a lot better against Zack in R3 (between the AC2-boost and Kefka being in the poll). Who knows how much better though.....


And yeah, I ignored Isaac impressing this year. Isaac may have improved too, but the jury's out on that one since Isaac was no longer being SFF'd/LFF'd and got to smash Professor Layton instead of Arthas, Liquid, or at least somebody he couldn't SFF. We'll see more when he faces L-Block.

Spy has GENTLEMEN, Crabwalk, pretty much the punchline of 99% of every TF2 comic(IT WAS A SPY ALL ALONG!). Heavy, while probably the most recognizable character of the game, doesn't have that meme appeal.

It's not hard to spin the stats for Jill > Samus. Assume Niko = Tommy 2k5, Crono 2k5 = Samus 2k5, and a Nintendo de-boost that allows Thrall to be 20% on Link.

Ryo Hazuki won over Guybrush (a 9th seed this year) and Vyse won over Laharl (who like won over a square character). And lets not forget how good Ulala did on Crash. Then there's also Bayonetta who will most likely be a threat to Link next year.
