Well I wouldn't go that far -- Zelda is no where near as strong as Sonic, and I wouldn't expect more than a 55-45 for Ezio (meanwhile Sonic should push towards 60.) Still, it's not completely unrealistic.

I don't understand the adversity to these notions of possible upsets. I really don't. You guys complain and complain about the monotony of the character battles with the same characters always winning and blah blah. Rather than entertain the idea that there is potential for a shake-up after...8 years of contests, you cast it off as trolling or idiocy.

Your own x-stats back up everything that I've put forth.

Because you're reading into x-stats blindly, ignoring the fact that Liquid Snake is one of the most inconsistent and wildly unpredictable characters in the history of these contests. He goes from impressing majorly one year to looking like trash the next.

That is the entire basis of your upset. There is literally no other way you can justify Ezio > Zelda making any sense.

For example, you can't use my stats because they say Dante > Ryu, so don't be using them to try to prove something else you want to stretch the truth to prove.

But I don't really care how I do in the Oracle. That's just for kicks. It's gotten me some really good predictions though!

Oh, and the reason why char's Dante value is so low is because he derived Dante's value from his final match against Sephiroth, Sonic, and Kirby, where he did noticeably worse than he should have based on previous matches. My Dante is based off of the round before.

Extrapolating is a great method, but with 4-ways you can't use the final stats, and even looking at individual matches gives you less accurate results than 1v1. Indeed, the most common method we use (simply pretending the 2 characters we want to extrapolate through were in a 1v1) doesn't even produce consistent results within the same match. Duke got 39.5% on Zack directly, but extrapolating through Link in the VERY SAME MATCH, Duke was projected to get only 36.5% on Zack.

Anyway, I don't dismiss either Ezio > Zelda or Altair > Sonic as completely absurd upsets. They're low probability but not impossible, and I think Sonic is only a little bit ahead of Zelda, though you're free to disagree about that.

I guess we'll just wait and see, but I've been around longer than you have, and I definitely know what I'm talking about.

Also Leonhart, your X-Stats have Dante over Ryu last year and they are relatively close in strength. I never discounted your x-stats, but simply pointed out that two out of three had Ryu stronger, and factoring in all the games he's been in since, and that Dante hasn't been in any leaves room for two moves.

I only brought your stats up because I figured you would listen to your own stats. I was wrong it seems.

I know what the problems are with my stats though. They're not perfect, but I know where they're imperfect. Plus, with round to round variation, you get different results. char and I often disagree on which match to use to best gauge a character's strength. Like I said, with Dante, he and I use a different match to arrive at his final stat value.

Also, using Raw Stats in any serious manner is LOL-worthy.

The same Kirby that lost to Luigi (who Sonic 60-40ed, the same year that Sonic beat Vincent who beat Ganondorf.) Like I don't get where this stuff is coming from. Also Zelda would at best put up 45 on Sonic, unless you are equating her to Vincent's strength.

I don't think so, actually. If you compare Kirby's trends with Sonic's, he actually lost the board vote to Sonic, and Kirby is normally one of the best characters there are with the early vote. It was the next round, against Cloud, when Kirby got an absurdly strong early vote signifying a bandwagon.

In that match? Ehhhhhhh. It wasn't as bad yet, for sure. I'd rather use a match like that than a match that's just completely flukey and weird like that Sephiroth/Kirby/Sonic match. Nothing in that match makes sense.

Sonic got 46% on Auron, while Zelda got 44% on Vincent. They're not that far apart, unless you want to ignore the 2008 contest. Which you can do- but it should be quite easy to understand why we don't ignore it.

or where a character without a released game did better on Sonic than an FF7 party member did on Mega Man? things don't look good for him anymore.

Analysis

This is an interesting match, two first round losers fighting it out trying to reach the second round. I’ve seen opinions about this match shift back and forth throughout the round, but I still feel that Roxas should be considered the heavy favourite in this match. Both characters have reason to increase in strength since the previous contest, but Heavy has a lot of ground to cover in order to sneak the upset.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days has been released since the previous contest and since he was the star of the game some people expect him to gain a hefty boost. Even though it was only a DS game it was one of the bigger releases on that system from 2009. The game also has a nice fanbase on GameFAQs. However should the game not give Roxas the boost that people expected his performance in the previous contest was a lot better, he got doubled by Luigi while Heavy was tripled by Kratos so he does have quite the buffer to work with.

Some people gained faith in Heavy after Spy’s performance against Master Chief while others expect Heavy to be stronger than Spy. While Heavy could be considered the star in Team Fortress 2’s ensemble cast with him being the main figure on the box Spy by far is a huge fan favourite. Spy also probably had support from the anti-Master Chief rallies since the guy is so easy to rally against. You also don’t need to look any further than last year to see that Spy had a better year, though with how Arthas and Ike performed that could be in question.

I don’t really see Heavy being in contention in this match. Roxas isn’t that strong, but I don’t see Heavy putting up much of a fight. Some people think Roxas can win next round, but for that to happen he would need to destroy Heavy quite easily. I’m talking about mid to high 60s range for him to at least have a chance.
