Actually, it might just be possible. Sonic underperformed in the match with the Prince and yet he managed 68.80% on the Prince there. Sub-Zero broke 45% on Sonic in that match, then dropped to 34.58% on Sonic next round. Sonic got 39.64% in the round 1 match of 2007, then did almost 5% better next round with stronger competition to deal with.

I wouldn't go off of Sonic directly. I like looking at Sub-Zero and Joe (with Sub being the more consistent guy there), and I really doubt being closer to Joe than Sub-Zero means you'll easily avoid a tripling. In fact, he did worse on Sub-Zero than he did on Kirby a year earlier. That would signify a drop unless Sub-Zero increased for whatever reason.

Took a trip over to the GoWIII board and found that a few people were talking about how they were surprised Kratos was winning as he's "fallen out of the public eye."

They also voted Tails due to Nostalgia factor. The TC said that "if it was Sonic or Knuckles he would have voted Kratos, though."

Weird... I guess not even the GoW fans care for Kratos that much.
