Here are the early reviews I can link. Official Playstation Magazine also gave it a 9.0. These are good scores, yes, but all 3D FFs have gotten mid 90s typically.

A couple stat topic regs have played it, like Heroic Mario. Even he said it didnt live up to the hype mainly due to the story not being very good.

Going back to the PW/Frog comparisons...In my opinion, if Axel can beat Frog (for all intents and purposes, in a fair match, he WOULD have won), I see no reason why Jecht couldn't beat Frog. It's not like Axel is any more to KHII than Jecht is to FFX.

I just have a hard time seeing a badass looking character from the 2nd most popular FF being fodder, which is what he'd have to be to lose to Phoenix, since in 1v1 if 2006 is any indication, he's about the fodder line.

I don't see Jecht as very likable. Maybe that isn't true, but he felt really out of place for an FF character.

He's closer to Squall than most other FF characters... as in being a jerk and stuff, and we see people like Squall.

I'm still annoyed about that. Feeding Crono, Vincent and Tifa to Sephiroth isn't a huge issue, but at least have them face each other first.

really i see no excuse for bacon to put crono and vincent in the same division and not set it up to get another match between them. Crono/Vincent is becoming the old Mario/Crono rivalry, and I woulda loved to see how it went without any outside factors.

I meant that Jecht is not really a, well, fantasy character. I'm not really sure what that means for his strength, but I'd guess it's bad rather than good.

Also, since Zack was brought up, Zack's probably worth about as much on Cloud as Frog is on Crono. Being from FFVII gives you a very large advantage over most games.

Some people are overrating Jecht hard, but he should still be able to beat Phoenix. He'd have to be pretty bad to lose that match.

JENOVA is one of the worst divisions we've ever had. It's got one good fourpack, and it's made up of four fodder characters. Midgar 2004 is the only thing that I can think of that might be worse, and at least that had Vivi/DK and Ness/Jak.

Missingno could beat Crono. Very outside chance, but all it would take is Crono bombing (which Magus has shown is very possible) and Missingno capitalizing on being the glitch.

Also:Missingno does not appear in the french version, all it does is make the screen go blank, i was so crushed.

Jecht is pretty darn likeable, cos as far as characters go, well FFX's non playable ensemble was very iffy, you had guys like Jecht who looked good and urgh, Seymour you pathetic lump, you look like sephiroth but come across as lame.

Analysis

Looking at the second half of round 1 we have many exciting matches ahead of us and to kick off the second half we have our traditional boring Nintendo match. This match is set in stone and so is Samus’ path so all that is left to do is see how she performs with the return of one on one.

Prince missed out in the previous contest, but he was doubled by Sonic before he received his Brawl boost, the same Sonic that couldn’t break 55% on Sub-Zero. Even in 2006 he wasn’t that impressive handily losing to Kirby. Prince of Persia may have had a few releases since then, but I don’t think those games will make much of a difference; the guy is going to suffer one of the biggest blowouts of the contest.

I see no reason for Samus to take a drop in strength. She will likely push a tripling in this match giving us a blowout which this contest has too few of. I actually liked the vote-in idea and I wouldn’t mind SBAllen using it again for future contests, maybe he could make the cut off higher so some of the winners could have a chance a progressing in this contest. Though SFF/LFF would be a problem and could potential cause characters to miss the contest.

I think it's possible, though I think Samus might fall short of that number. Sonic got 68.80% on the Prince back in 2007 and Samus is definitely stronger than Sonic.
