I think Ryu would beat Ganondorf this year. I dunno, it's hard to say because we haven't seen any performances really yet that confirm Ryu getting any kind of boost from SFIV, but one can hope he would beat Ganondorf.

Ganondorf's one of the more... charactery characters of the Zelda series. He's actually a pretty good bad guy.

By comparison to a game that has no character, yes Ganondorf has tons of character -- but by comparison to someone like Ken who has been fleshed out over twenty years (with actual character development in canon comics, games, and movies) ... he's got the short end of the stick.

I never said it meant strength. I was just ranting because I like Ken a lot more than Ganondorf. I don't usually pull the whole character thing unless I'm trolling. Guess it's just sad knowing Ken will lose to Ganon when Ken is so awesome and Ganon is pretty much just an ugly badguy from Zelda. :(

Probably not. It takes an awful lot to move characters as strong as Link or Cloud even a little bit, and Dissidia wasn't that big a game.

Oh well -- I guess I just have to keep hoping for an FFVII sequel (actual sequel) or a remake for Cloud to take his rightful throne.

I wonder if an SF RPG would boost Ryu and Ken enough to contend with the other heavy hitters.

The only characters you could really make a case for are the older characters, since they've actually been impressing.

CC:FF7, a PSP-game, allowed Zack to not only make it into two contests but impress time and time again. Kingdom Hearts, a Disney-game, allowed Squall to reverse the majority of his hate.

I don't want to give Dissidia much credit since it doesn't make a lot of sense in comparison to SSBB, but it's not unfathomable for it to help some Square-characters fairly seriously, especially after what we've seen so far.

No to the first question, yes to the second one. Dissidia sold very well, and was marketed well also. It's not far-fetched to believe that, because of the nature of the game itself (being a fighting game) it attracted some new people, as well as people that are just getting into gaming etc. It's common-sense to believe that it's possible a game like Dissidia (and the advent of FFXIII) would provide a decent boost for any FF character that can be linked to it.

shouldnt be a surprise it was nearly even in brackets.

I should slap you for calling Charizard a random Pokemon (unless you think Pikachu and Mewtwo are random as well). When people think of Charizard, they picture the badass fire breathing dragon that does what he wants, whenever he wants.

Anyways, what a horrible showing by Kratos today. Can't wait for Zard > Kratos!

What Dissidia might have done is to unify the Final Fantasy fanbase, so that the ones who loved the newer games now might be inclined to vote for the characters from the older games even though they might not have played them, thus giving them a boost.

But I find it unlikely that Dissidia increased the size of the fanbase by much, so the characters who already draw on almost the entire FF fanbase like Cloud and Sephiroth does are much more unlikely to receive a huge boost.

I'd say FFXIII bringing a lot of Cloud fans to the site would be better to rely on than Dissidia. That's the only reason I'd give Cloud a chance, but Link is the clear favorite.

Do wish I'd gone with Cloud considering how few ended up picking him though.

Sonic Team is still a lot weaker than they were. Sonic and Knuckles (mostly Knuckles) just managed to set expectations for Tails so low that he couldn't help but exceed them.

There's never any faith in Sonic -- he's going to destroy Ganon and Kirby (solidifying his place in the N9.) He's still stronger than Mega Flop and Cranus. Both of which he outclassed in the last 1v1, and both of which have dropped way more than he could have in the last two years.

Also at least Sonic won't be the one to break the N9 (that honor belongs to Mega Flop.)
