Guybrush's fanbase isn't very big at all. That's all there is to it. I know creativename will jump down my throat for even suggesting this, but he seems like one of those guys who might have a proverbial "vote ceiling." I'd be surprised to see him get more than 20000 votes in a match against just about anyone.

Isaac wasn't that impressive in his match while Layton has a new game plus his first game was released in Europe (which for what ever reason loved it)

The hell? Because I'd EASILY take nearly eliminating Lucario over failing to get 10% in a match with Chief, Kain Highwind, and Raiden.

Stay up, L-Block. He'll probably end a couple of percentage points below here. And, it's not much better than 2002, but Isaac got 25% on Samus in 2003, which is really impressive. He also managed 32% against Pikachu in 2007, which is much much better than what Layton showed us.

Bowser doesn't have a particularly strong ASV here, but he did have a couple of good hours. Frog did well in the last two hours, and almost got himself a 40% hour. Beyond that, nothing really interesting.

I dunno why you guys think vote ceilings are impossible. There are thousands of people who have no idea who one character is and will vote for the other by default. A vote ceiling doesn't exist in ALL matches since if there's a match between two unknowns people will still just vote whatever one looks cooler or whatever. But between a well known character like Mario and an unknown like say, Neku, everyone who doesn't know who Neku is and doesn't hate Mario will vote for Mario. Master Chief probably has a ceiling as well since there is such a large block of voters who will never vote for him because they hate Halo. MC will probably never reach more than 80% even against some random NPC that even hardcore fans of the game haven't heard of, solely because there's probably 20+% who hate Halo/Microsoft and will vote for the other option by default.

We lost a perfect on this match. Only one left. Other than that, it was pretty normal.

5 people fell off the Top 50 today. Sephiroth23x, LiselTestify, ESPSamus, Rikkulover21 and DaemonscharmII banked on another Frog miracle but Frog wasn't quite able to pull it off.

1 person survived despite getting the match wrong. Former first place Mogthegnome also has Frog beating Bowser.

Something like this has probably already been said, but I'll say it anyway just because I feel like it.
I'm certain that Charizard can beat Duke with that image.

It's a night match, so I would think that America gets the least votes here, and I'm not too sure what the general consensus of USA is around the world but I thought that there were quite a few countries that didn't like the USA and with an image like that, they'd probably be very willing to vote the other way.

Or perhaps I'm completely wrong about this having an effect like that, but I'd still think enough people like Charizard and/or Pokemon in order to beat Duke.

Hmm...it's on a weekend though. Maybe the night match won't screw Duke over quite as much. If he's leading early on, it would depend on if Charizard can make a good enough comeback throughout the time to win. Which I'm fairly certain Charizard can do.

Analysis

I guess it wasn’t enough to have one fodder vs. fodder match in this division that we must have another one. This match has gotten very little debate which is quite shocking as I expect both characters to be fairly close in strength. This is an all handheld battle so it seems at least one non-Pokemon handheld character is reaching the second round.

I think the real reason Isaac is such a massive favourite was his performance in the previous contest, though that performance is a bit misleading. Isaac may have been able to keep even with Lucario, but at the same time he was easily doubled by Altair who didn’t exactly look that good overall in that contest. On the other hand Professor Layton was far from looking good as well. His performance against Master Chief was abysmal and would put him at around Guybrush which should give Isaac the easy win.

Layton’s argument comes in the form of getting a boost. Since his last contest his original game was released in Europe which took quite the liking to it plus a second game was released. Despite Isaac having a game announced Layton is quite well known among the DS crowd which could ultimately help in a match between two weak characters.

While I don’t think Layton will win I do feel that the guy was kind of shafted when it came to predicting the bracket. I guess putting hope into a boost that may not even be large enough to cover the gap was just a bit too risky to the average board bracket maker.

I can feel it. This will be the year that Guybrush Threepwood actually shows an iota of strength! I'd be tempted to take him over a lot of (but not all of) the fodder in this bracket. Guybrush is gonna be high fodder this year, I can feel it!

Why haven't we gotten Felix back in one of these? For a handheld franchise, Golden Sun's probably the strongest one of them all barring Pokemon, is finally getting a DS sequel which fans are anticipating (http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3119 and http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3512), and made it into the Games Contest before you idiots decided to replace it with a game that already got doubled by FFTA. I'm still pissed over that (even though I think the GS series is overrated and loved FE8). Plus, Felix did have that awesome match with Master Chief, even if it was MC's weakest year.

Isaac's always had bad luck in these things, so it's nice to see him actually get a chance to shine for once. Layton's bordering on uber-fodder, and if it weren't for how uncommon it was to get over 70% in a match this contest, I would be surprised if Isaac didn't break it. I still expected Isaac to break 70% and maybe even go for the tripling. I also expect votals barely better than Laharl/Neku, but still.

I think Isaac will impress here. I think Isaac's been waiting all this time to unleash his hidden Felix, and he's going to whoop the everliving **** out of Layton. I hope then we decide to get Felix back into this thing, especially if the next contest happens around GSDS's release, as he could be a low mid-carder even today.
