The site is clearly experiencing a western shift. 'WSF'.

Yes it is. Does that mean any new Western character can challenge the noble nine? I mean, Mass Effect 2 just came out and is getting crazy reviews right now. Do you think Shepard can take on Pikachu or Solid Snake? Bioshock 2 is coming out soon, and looks to be a hell of a lot better than the first one. Do you believe Big Daddy can take on Tifa?

Don't use the WSF as your proof if you only believe it to be happening for one character.

It's safe to say that Zelda isn't getting any stronger.

All that Nintendo needs to do is officially announce a new Zelda game and she'd be a hell of a lot stronger than what she is. And even without that announcement, she's still one of the strongest characters on this site so it doesn't matter.

It's not that hard to believe that a fresh, new lead with a solid series base can beat Zelda. Especially since it's the most popular Action RPG of this generation.

Yes it is. Nothing like that has ever happened before on this site, so you're hoping for a miracle.

Zelda has starred in Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, and Link to the Past among other games. 4 of the top 10 games on this site.

Ezio starred in Assassin's Creed 2. Umm... Might break top 100.

How many of those games are recent, and fresh in peoples' minds? How many people are coming to this site looking for help on the Zelda game they are playing? I'll give you a hint (it's not many.) I'm not saying that there isn't already a huge Zelda fanbase, but if you are basing it solely on the game right now, Zelda should be as strong as Link right? She's ****ing ZELDA! The NAME of the franchise! Unfortunately, that's not how it goes. Zelda is a character in the background -- she's had little roles here and there, but for the most part she's just a princess in distress -- as it is the only reason that she gets votes is because of her name.

Ezio meanwhile is the star of his game -- and while his gaming franchise might not measure up to the Zelda franchise as a whole, leads always do better than supporting cast (except maybe in the case of Auron...)

Anyway, I'm not saying that because there is a western shift that the site is going to turn around completely -- I'm just saying it's helping move Altair and Ezio along, and their games already made them strong enough.

Whatever, though, when Ezio beats Zelda you guys can cry all you want 'BUT IT'S ****ING ZELDA HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?!?!?!'

Just because something hasn't happened before doesn't make it impossible. KH wasn't nearly as break out a game as AC and ACII

...We're not even sure if Ezio really is as strong as Altair. Also, I love the fact that we're arguing about a second round match in which one participant is a first-timer going up against an established character from a long-running franchise and the other is actually the lower seed in her first-round match. I'm not saying that I think Zelda's going to lose to Travis, in spite of the seeding thing...

I'm not so sure about Ezio vs. Simon, though. I looked at the prospective pics (although I know that some of these match pics have not come from the prospective pics page on the wiki), and it looks like the pic factor shouldn't slant it one way or the other. The names on the actual pics will just be "Ezio" and "Simon", I'm sure, but the actual poll choices should have the full names. And that "Belmont" name still carries some weight, I should think. I've got Zelda > Simon in my bracket for round 2, and if I remember correctly, Liquid>Altair was a fairly popular upset pick. The Contest Analysis Crew was 2-4 on that match, 2-5 including the guest. Were their picks always like that, or had they been emboldened by the fact that another 15-seed from MGS had pulled an upset already? You see my listing of wrong picks, do you see either of those 2-15 matches on there?

I'm only pointing this out, of course, because people are using the fact that Altair beat Liquid so handily as evidence for why Ezio could beat Zelda. I had Altair over Liquid--actually had Altair advancing twice at first, but I changed my mind--so it's not like I'm biased against the newer games. I don't have Ezio beating Simon. A new game is one thing; an ultra-new game is probably quite another. And you don't mess with the classics.

Being fair to Curt, the Ezio > Zelda argument is a lot better than his Zack > Mega Man one. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Altair and Ezio make the 3rd round. Go Zelda and Vivi though!

Also, Zelda was featured heavily in the newest Zelda game, spirit tracks (released last December). She's basically at Link's side throughout the whole game, so it stands to reason that she can only get stronger from that increased exposure.

Seriously though, Zelda vs Ezio is not going to be remotely close. I'm not even going to bother backing this up with statistics, it's inherently obvious.

Wow, real mature, Ulti. If we actually were talking about Brawl, I'd pick Luigi over Meta Knight every time, because Meta Knight's style is all about cheap spam attacks that hardly actually send the opponent flying anywhere. You'll note that Meta Knight is also not on my list of incorrect picks, so yeah. And the point about it possibly being closer than most people thought it would be--which I admit, I was wrong about--was less about how "cool" Meta Knight is or isn't and more about the fact that all of the Mario games with dialogue (the Mario and Luigi series; the Paper Mario series; etc.) have seemed to take great pleasure in picking on Luigi, and the whole "Luigi sucks" attitude has probably rubbed off. But obviously, despite the fact that recent characterization seems to have painted him as a coward and intensely dependent on Mario, he still has a lot of fans.
