I'm not sure what happens if it's a 100% fair match. I'm pretty sure that Luigi would lose if Mudkip was in that Bacondorf match, though.

I understand the reasoning, but...I dunno. Ganondorf seems pretty susceptible to SFF in general though. Design alone doesn't seem to be a reason why one Nintendo franchise LFFs one harder than another. Do Pokemon fans in general like Mario more than Zelda? Would Mewtwo LFF Ganon more than Luigi?

Based on? This is almost ridiculous as saying an RPG Villain and a Action Hero overlap because they have silver hair.

The match was so close that random variation could cause the results to flip.

Triple LFF, as if regular LFF isn't volatile enough. I wouldn't draw any sort of conclusion out of an LFF match, much less an LFF match.

Look at Mario and MMX last year. Why does Zelda apparently LFF Mario more than X, but Link apparently LFFs X more than Mario? LFF in general is just wacky.

Good job, Spy! Get as much as you can before that ASV starts!

Speaking of which, this match should give us a very good indication if the ASV is diluted at least somewhat this year. Spy is definitely a night character, so Chief should have high levels of performance for the next 7-8 hours or so based on general ASV trends.

I've never liked the argument that Mudkip hurt Luigi more than Ganon, especially enough to cost him the match. That's a stretch at best whereas we see Luigi's sprite against Bacondorf...that's a clear and obvious factor that will benefit Luigi. We don't have any proof or much reason to think Pokemon/Mudkip affects LoZ/Ganon more than SMB/Luigi. It's already hard enough to predict how joke-characters affect matches, let's not get into casual assumptions where we "know" who the joke LFFs more in triple-LFF-situations.

If it wasn't for Pikachu surprising us all by advancing to R4 in 2007, Luigi would have likely beaten Dante. I mean, if Mudkip affects Luigi that much, Pikachu should affect Luigi more, and that'd be enough to win over Dante...and I'd still take Ganon to beat Luigi. Even if Luigi really should be stronger than Ganon based on the sprite-match, I'd have taken Ganon > Dante in 2007 anyway if it wasn't for Pikachu.

I'm with Leonhart on this one. Dante should, by all means, make it a close match and it'd be hard to rule him out as an upset...but we've not had a lot of reasons to take him over Ganon, either. Remember when Dante had every reason to beat YOSHI and still lost? Well, this is Ganon, and Dante doesn't have a lot of reasons on his side at this time.

Also, just because I think it's a fun comparison: Luigi got 44.13% on Pikachu in 2007's four-way...and Ganondorf got 41.35% on Mewtwo one-on-one this year. It's hard to imagine Pikachu and Mewtwo being very far apart from this angle, assuming Ganon > Luigi.

Today's prediction: Master Chief with 64.34% Status: decent

Okay, I'm caught up.

Chief is doing better than I expected, and he'll go up a couple percents during the ASV. 4chan is rallying their asses off for Spy (I'm surprised Steam hasn't linked yet, but they obviously see the match as unwinnable and/or they respect Chief too much -- and thinking there's no overlap between Valve and Halo is just silly), and Chief is having no issues at all. No one will be rallying for Ryu H, because he isn't a vote draw. The Ryu > Chief upset is all but dead. Ryu dropped like a stone against Crash and his match finished with the lowest vote total of the entire contest. He doesn't have the day vote to take full advantage of early Chief anti-voting, plus there's that whole Xbox hierarchy to worry about. Ryu might still do well on design alone, but winning would be a miracle at this point.

I'd kill to see Dante upset Ganondorf, but I don't think it would happen. Dante is notorious for looking good against weak characters, then bombing when he's up against characters of similar strength.

That wasn't round 1 and I would like to here those arguments since I was out of town during that match. From what I can see Mudkip did better in round 2 because joke characters retain their base strength a lot better. People blamed Bacondorf for Luigi's win.

Besides if Mudkip was a factor that means Bacondorf is a less factor which means if Sonic defeats Ganondorf, he'll likely defeat Kirby (I said IF)
