I played TF2 on the 360. I can't stand mouse/keyboard controls LEAVE ME ALONE.

##Dayvig Yo

Only a communist plays TF2 on a console. That or a scummy element of society.

What kind of overlap would Halo and TF2 have? They don't even cater to the same kind of FPS gamer! They don't even share a fanbase! Or do you think people actually play Halo 1/2 on PC or TF2 on 360?

I agree, the only real overlap is that it is an fps game.

HaRRicH | Posted 1/27/2010 9:53:58 AM | message detail
Okay, fine then, but it doesn't change that the face of FPS-gaming for the past decade isn't looking impressive against another FPS-character. He shouldn't anyway like I've been arguing, but maybe there's less reason for me to be wrong on that than I thought there was.

And I brought up WCC/GlaDOS for the same reason I brought up Spy -- Halo doesn't mean anything special to FPS-fans here. I feel like WCC/GlaDOS are worse examples than Spy for this, but whatever. I strayed from the argument of the Xbox-hierarchy and tried to prove MC wasn't special to the FPS-community here either, and I strayed too far.

Of course, we have to see how Soap actually does against Big Daddy first!

I'm actually more interested in seeing the votals for this. High votals indicates Master Chief is still pretty good and would have no trouble with Ryu H, while Spy would have had a nice healthy boost due to increased Valve exposure the past year or so that would explain his performance.

Also, if Valve decides to rally for Spy, we can say goodbye to Chief's ASV! Hell, if the ASV is as diluted as it seems, Spy might end up with the best ASV so far with a Steam rally!

And wherefore Albion?

Slithered off to wait for the ASV I suppose, when Chief might get it to a high and mighty 64% :)

Still thinking Chief>Ryu though, and I don't think it'll be all that close.

Man how much can we increase spy if Chief finishes with 62/63%; LOWER than Arthas. That'd be a pretty hefty to boost for anybody and Spy isn't even a major character in the game.

How is it not Ryu's fault he can't get votes? Will he suddenly get an influx of votes because he's facing Master Chief instead of Crash Bandicoot? Barring those hardcore anti-voters, of course.

It's both Crash and Ryu's fault. It's not like even other midcarders have trouble getting votes against fodder.

DaruniaTheGoron | Posted 1/27/2010 10:08:54 AM | message detail
Why are people underestimating Spy? TF2 is REALLY popular among the internet crowd, and it's easy to get behind TF2 guys if you're anti-voting the Chief. It's harder to get behind other hated characters like Crash which is why Chief blew him out.

I predicted this. Bet MAX in the spread betting that Spy > 34% because Chief can't blow anything out that isn't hated as well. He'll still beat Ryu H and I'm like 99% confident in that especially considering how poorly Ryu H did against Crash. I expect Chief to rise to like 63.. maybe 64 or 65% if he gets an INSANE ASV.

Vote drawing power has never mean that much for a character's strength though. If Hayabusa loses to Chief, it's not going to be because he had the lowest vote totals of the first round.

It's more Crash's fault.

But vote totals are being overrated. Vote totals are not why Ryu will lose, he's just not strong enough, especially in the day.

The rally won't last too long anyways. When Spy got a rally in the vote-in poll, it only lasted for about 2 hours before Spy started performing normally again.

And honestly, the fact that Crash and Lara Croft don't draw votes seems to tell me that people would rather not vote at all than anti-vote them with a character they don't know/like. It makes me wonder how much anti-votes really matter.

I think votals are an important part of a character's strength. If a character can't garner votes against a weak character, how will they get votes against a character with actual strength?

If I had time, I'd probably bother looking up Ryu's votals around noon for his last three or so contests and see how they compare to what he did against Crash. As is, I wasted too much time with this topic today as is, so if anyone else wants to mess around, there you go.

I still take Chief due to it being a day match, but if it was a night match, I might have to favor Ryu H. I don't buy Spy improving so much when Arthas did better on him last contest and TF2 looked like junk last game contest.

No argument that hasn't been presented before. TWEWY is the "bigger" game and has the "Square Factor". Disgaea is a series and with Prinny doing well one would expect Laharl too.

Hard to say really. I still think a lot of Prinny's strength was joke factor and casuals who didn't know either character.

I was going through votals the other day, and for they do generally line up with the average popularity of two characters in a match, for the most part. Sonic characters, especially the Blue Blur himself, tend to always underperform in regards to them*, but other than a few outliers here and there they hold up fairly well.

How this holds up to a two poll a day system I'm not sure, but I think that enough time has passed that most voters have gotten the hang of things.

*What the hell happened with those votals in Sonic Vs. Ryu for example.
