Chief is doing better than I expected, and he'll go up a couple percents during the ASV. 4chan is rallying their asses off for Spy (I'm surprised Steam hasn't linked yet, but they obviously see the match as unwinnable and/or they respect Chief too much -- and thinking there's no overlap between Valve and Halo is just silly), and Chief is having no issues at all. No one will be rallying for Ryu H, because he isn't a vote draw. The Ryu > Chief upset is all but dead. Ryu dropped like a stone against Crash and his match finished with the lowest vote total of the entire contest. He doesn't have the day vote to take full advantage of early Chief anti-voting, plus there's that whole Xbox hierarchy to worry about. Ryu might still do well on design alone, but winning would be a miracle at this point.

1) That's what I thought about Valve/Halo too, but people jumped down my throat for trying to apply it to characters (probably rightfully so, but it was worth bringing up). Valve's responsible for Half-Life, Portal, TF, and L4D...four major FPS-series of various sorts. Though Halo is not so much like any of those games, I bet many Halo-fans are fans of some of those games despite the console/PC-division of fanbases. It's the most prolific FPS-company and the former biggest FPS-series in gaming history...they've got some common interests somewhere. They shouldn't be entirely separated from each other (and not in that "every game has some overlap" way), especially in recent years with Orange Box and L4D1/2 hitting consoles.

2) It's probably not out of respect to MC as it is apathy to the poll. Gordon was going toe-to-toe with Link for a week in the contest semi-final at GameSpot before Steam came in...whereas Spy is getting 61-39'd by MC after three and a half hours in GameFAQs's first round. If this was Gordon and it was close, maybe, and I'm sure they're all for any of their FPS-creations to beat MC...but it's more likely that they just don't care or even know about this yet. It's not like they've ever seriously rallied at GameFAQs before.

3) Argh, goddamn Xbox-hierarchy. No, it doesn't exist here. Halo has no special powers on games or characters on Xbox-systems outside of Halo.

Spy plunged during his entire match last contest.

Since the start of the ASV Spy has gone up 3% in Canada and remained pretty constant in US.

Chief is the favorite in my book (I'd take Spy>Crash). There are no "locks" in that match, though. Could go either way.

Day match. Ryu would have definitely looked better had he faced Crash in the daytime (he doupled Crash in the US), but I think the daytime is a slight advantage for Chief.

Well, the match seems to be back up in the air at least -- Hayabusa's chances are no longer wrecked. MC's having a hard time matching Hayabusa against Crash despite having the day-time, and in 2008 Crash's 24.5% against Samus is better than Spy's 36.32% against Arthas. Spy has a good reason to increase this year though, but even then it sounds like 4chan rallied some (Ulti says they did like crazy while Yesmar said there was only one topic...so I dunno how much or exactly when). Hayabusa also has those low vote totals to worry about, but that shouldn't make or break him at this time; we've seen other characters be either big or poor vote-draws yet it generally doesn't affect their strength.

Both Hayabusa and MC disappointed in my eyes and were both facing characters we generally weren't giving enough credit to this year, so it's kinda like we're back at the beginning: MC's the favorite, but Hayabusa's got a shot...and I'll keep taking that shot for now.

Spy got beaten by Jecht and Sub-Zero in the vote in poll with little excuse. I doubt he's particularly strong. He also lost to Ike/Arthas/Pikachu by a good distance last year. I'd be really worried about MC > Hayabusa if not for Hayabusu letting Crash get as high as he did.

Sounds like too much work! I guess you could just use Sub-Zero's percentage on MC in 2006, use Chief 2007, and derive Jecht from that, and BAM!

Interesting thought, especially since Spy was rallied in the vote-in -- I believe that rally started with him originally behind Proto Man and maybe even Ridley before he took third place. That would make Jecht a lot closer to Sub-Zero than Spy in that poll (he already is, but now even more so), and Sub-Zero has beaten MC before...

...I know it's not a good idea to take the vote-in poll very seriously, but it's interesting that Jecht could get pretty close to MC based off that.

I took Phoenix over Jecht, so I can't turn around and take Jecht over Chief. I've said for years that I wanted to see Magus/Chief, although I very much doubt Magus can win now. I might pick him anyway, on principle.
