Oh
day characters definitely benefit with day matches. There's not much
day trending because the match starts during the day, and vote
frequency is high from the start. But there's a big difference in performance from the first 12 hours to the next 12. Just look at characters like Sub-Zero last year, and work out their 12 hour strengths. Day and night are very different from each other. Day trends are pretty much the same as always, just hidden due to start time. I mean that a lot of people who would ordinarily be night voters are voting in the day matches too. They're consistently getting 20,000+ more votes than the night polls, so I'd guess the advantage day characters get over a 24-hour poll in a day match isn't as great as the advantage night characters get from a night poll. --- 6 years later, Crono's quest to defeat Sephiroth -- Round 1: Missingno 'Till shade is gone, 'till water is gone, into the shadow with teeth bared.... |

Day
characters do benefit from day matches, but the ASV hasn't lasted as
long so far this year. Look at Ike's match against Prinny yesterday. He
rolled from around 3 to 7 P.M. EST, and then...his average intake per
hour dropped 2%. Then when we hit 10 P.M., his average intake dropped
another 2%. Ike has been an ASV beast the last two contests, but
against Prinny (a character who by all means should be awful with it),
he couldn't hit a high level for more than 4-5 hours. --- "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!" |

seriously though in a day match, in 2008, the supposed year he fell... he beat Kirby by 600 votes. Kirby had no sff in the match would you take Ryu H to beat Kirby in a day match? Most people have Ryu over Crash with high 60's, which is what I had him at based on intuition as well. Though I'm getting a bit confused looking at Crash's performance against Samus. He got 24.45% there. Hayabusa got 24.26% on Snake - though if we set the Hayabusa:Zero ratio the same as in round 1, we can peg Ryu at 33.45% on Snake. Setting Samus=Snake then gives us Ryu with only 63.74% on Crash (and Samus>Snake, which helps Crash). That's a surprisingly low number. Of course, Crash did get 70/30'd by Chief and 60/40'd by Magus in a 4-way. I'm going to dismiss Crash's performance on Samus as some kind of fluke, because it doesn't make sense to me. think Ryu could have put up a very respectable percentage on Round 2
Kirby. Remember that many people were calling Kirby a disappointment
before he roided and beat Sonic. Also, 1v1 Chief is simply a different beast than 4way Chief. 1v1 Chief finds ways to lose. Hmm.....Kirby
went up a great deal on Chief from round 2 to round 3. Big Boss and
Raiden were replaced with Dante and Leon. Not sure how that works. Of course, the other thing is, it's been theorized for a very long time that Chief would benefit from 4-ways. (Note: he has an independent fanbase; whether or not it is hardcore is not important). lot of people are basing their Oracle for Hayabusa/Crash off of
Chief/Crash in 2004, I figure. Crash looked better in the last 2 4-ways
than he did in 2004 though, I think. If Hayabusa can't match Chief's

advantage night characters get from a night poll. Yes that is true. Though I think that's more a seasonal thing (combined with a few thousand contest regs voting twice per day). Could be First Place Factor, or Obvious First Place Underperformance Factor, or whatever you want to call it, striking. Not everyone is so convinced that fourways are the same as 1v1s! I expect Sonic to beat Kirby handily! All this 4-ways vs. 1v1 talk is pretty unsubstantiated. Basically anything that anyone has ever argued as being to to the format, turned out not to be. Sonic Team still sucks, Zack was not some magical fanciful 4-way creation, and Chief was beasting due to Game Fuel and not the format.
