Oh i think Snake wins all matchups, though I think the margin of victory can fluctuate drastically.
Young Snake vs Big **** and I feel asleep vs Naked snake would prove once and for all that match pic matters for certain but not all characters.

Well, the voters are usually dependable. I mean, they gave us Crono > Mario, something I wouldn't have believed any major video game site (not a Square fansite) would do. They gave us Link as champion 5 times.

But really, whatever their taste, I think most voters are smart enough to vote for Solid Snake. Even if they're confused about which picture is who's, when they go to vote, they'll click the circle beside Snake's name.

Any pic of Big Boss where has his eyepatch and is from a game where he's featured is good. It doesn't matter how much like Solid Snake he looks, because everyone who has ever followed MGS at this point knows the difference between the two.

Yeah, I agree with this. He still did very well last year with an old man pic in round 2 last year with Raiden. Do we think he wins that match last year if he's got a Naked Snake pic? He wasn't that far off, so I suppose it's possible.

Yeah, I don't even think his new old man pic even hurts him very much. His melty MGS1 artwork is the worst by far, but that's because he's both unrecognizable and not even in the game it's from. I don't think he's nearly as pic dependent as people make it out to be. He's solidified himself separate of Snake at this point.

I've actually possibly played as big boss more than solid snake, thanks to portable ops and peace walker wlll tip the scales in favour of Big Boss for sure.

There's no way of knowing this, honestly. He still would've won the match last year in round 2 without Raiden easily even with that pic though.

For people who played MGS4 it probably doesn't make a difference... but if someone has only played the first 3, or even just 1 or 2 of them, naked snake would be much more recognizable.

Think about the Kirby/Big Boss/Jinjo/Lucas match. If someone had only played the first mgs, and not interested in nintendo, then a pic of snake would draw their attention, not an old man.

Really, there's only two pictures of Big Boss that involve him being an old man. MGS1 artwork would probably hurt him a bit, but the other one wouldn't at all. His old man pic has enough badass appeal to bring him in all the votes he needs. But really, at this point there aren't tons of people who don't know who Big Boss is, regardless of which MGS games they have or haven't played. He's just as popular with gaming people as Snake is.

He's just as popular with gaming people as Snake is.

No way. Everyone knows Snake, even people who have never played MGS series. As seen by several topics today, people are asking why a solid snake clone is in the contest... so to non mgs fans, he just looks like a solid snake clone. But yeah, Big Boss is known by all MGS fans, I agree.

Big Boss isn't THAT popular, but he's more well-known now, and I'm trembling in fear at the prospect of seeing Mario face Pointing Finger BB without a similarly A++ top of the line pic. I'm not kidding when I say I expect BB to break 47%. He gets 6 to 8 hours to beat Mario into a pulp, so Mario has to hold him to a low lead until the morning hits and then go completely berserk.

Fun fact: This match and Cloud/Edgeworth last year says that Naked Snake would be expected to get just shy of 35% on Cloud. That's probably more than Sonic or Mega Man would get at this point.

Hm, but the same thing with Link/Edgeworth from two years ago says Naked Snake only gets 23.5% on Link, which is on the low end of midcarders. I guess that's what you get when you extrapolate through fodder and fourways and Cloud antivotes.

Big Boss has had some great pictures, I'd be really curious to see how well he would do with the Naked Snake name as well.

Unfortunate that Ocelot never seems to get a MGS3 picture though, I think the Wily match was the only one.
