~*Say What? Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them.

X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Near-Elite - The Squall, Auron, Tifa, Vincent, Zelda, Kirby, etc group that has come at, near or even ahead of Noble Nine characters in the past.

I've considered Vincent the favorite over Megaman since 2006, although I'm not sure who I'd take now. That's a match we really really need to see. Megaman's not had to face any of the near-elites since Sora in 2006, and has never faced the top end of the near-elite group.

Stupid for a few reasons.

1) Sonic beat Vincent comfortably in 2006, and Mega Man 2k6 = Sonic 2k6
2) Mega Man has had more going for him in the last 2 years than Sonic, Crono or Vincent
3) If Crono can still beat Vincent with how much Frog/Magus have dropped, Mega Man should have no trouble with him.

That's not what I thought in 2006, though I agree with it now. Hence, that's why I considered Vincent the favorite in 2006 but consider it even now.

Crono = Megaman = Vincent = Squall in 2008 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

The best picture for Boss is one in which he looks as much like Solid Snake as possible. That Peace Walker art is obviously better than Old Man Boss in that regard, but it isn't quite as good as the pic he's got today.

Speaking of Boss, I never thought about how wasted he was in this bracket. Even in a night match, a good performance against Mario would be no joke. If he can hit the low 40s, he'll make a serious claim to being the strongest non-Square, non-Noble Nine character. I doubt Dante could match that, and I'm not sure if even Ganon or Zelda can match it before SFF.

I don't think we'll have to worry about Melty Old Boss again. The guy has tons of great artwork now, and he's a board favorite. That, and Bacon seems to take the more appealing pictures. Has Bacon ever given us Amano art when other options were available?

Dante is very strong, but Ryu has always been so consistently good throughout his contest history. I really can't see the year Street Fighter 4 comes out he would drop. Whoever wins here beats Leon, thats for sure.

I already think Snake > Sephiroth is possible, but I don't think Mario/BB will change my opinion on that one very much one way or the other. It's not clear what the strength gap between Snake and BB is.

Any pic of Big Boss where has his eyepatch and is from a game where he's featured is good. It doesn't matter how much like Solid Snake he looks, because everyone who has ever followed MGS at this point knows the difference between the two.
