and no character has broken even 85% since 2004.

Well that's mostly because of 4-ways obviously. And also less total fodder, as well as coincidence.

Tingle vs. Link would break 90% and it shouldn't be close - or close to close, for that matter. Link should blow past it.


Somehow I don't see Cid getting killed by the board vote like FF7 usually does. Seems indy enough to avoid the hate.

I don't know, pretty much everything FF7 gets anti-voted early. Cid should be less than Sephiroth or Cloud, but he should jump somewhat after the early vote. And isn't Mega Man's board vote pretty decent?

Zack's board vote isn't as bad as Cloud's or Sephy's, but it's not that great. He got owned with the board vote in Link/Mario/MMX

Tifa is generally thought of as an FFVII character that isn't horrible at the early vote, and yet at the end of the power hour she was still only at 47% on Samus. She ended around 49.5% (percentage at noon was a bit higher). Zack probably does better with the early vote than any other FFVII character we've seen, but he still gained a lot of ground on Mario after the end of the power hour, and even more on Megaman X.

Megaman's board vote is better than a typical Nintendo character's though, if you're comparing it to his final percentage at the end of the match. He dies off really bad overnight and doesn't get too much back with the day vote.

Mega Man will have no trouble finishing with 55%. That's probably as high as you could reasonably place Cid.

I'd be worried about the Blue Bomber if he only has 55% at the freeze. That dead zone vote is going to be *brutal*. Mega Man lost to Tidus last year in Europe and it wasn't especially close either. He couldn't manage 54% on Nero in Europe.

...Augh why I am scaring myself about that match. I'm honestly not sure what the bar is for beating Mega Man, and if it's as low as Sonic's, but I would not be surprised.

wow I'm only 1 of 13 perfects. This starts to make me really worried about some of my later upsets. I took both kirby>sonic and Snake> Sephy as upset picks to play catch up cause I figured I would bomb early.

Seeing how sonic characters have performed, thats reasonable. I have Sonic, but I believe it could go either way, it might not even be all that close (53-55%?). As for Snake and Seph, I have Snake too, I see it happening.

Since Mega Man/Cid is being discussed as potentially scary, does that mean Aeris has a good shot at Sonic? We saw her barely beat Cid in the vote-in and Mega Man's not been as embarrassing in recent years as Sonic, but it's hard to just keep thinking of more names that could beat Sonic nowadays.

...I seriously doubt it. As Ulti said, Aeris isn't liked that much, for one. Also, her recent performances have been nothing short of disappointing. Really, losing the day vote to MARLE?

I wouldn't give Aeris much of a chance to beat Megaman. Cid's upset chances depend on the vote-in poll being inaccurate and Cid being stronger than Aeris.

Both MC and Altair now share a common opponent, so...yeah. Surprisingly, Altair looks better in that comparison.

I think Altair is going to round 3. Liquid Snake would still likely beat DK, even if it would be another close match where DK has to choke away at the end.

I did not expect Mario to be able to break 81%. Quite impressive here, though I think the morning vote might bring him down a bit (it's Sunday morning in America, right?).

I don't think anyone was actually hyping Cid>Mega. Rather just pointing out that if indeed Mega only has 55% at the freeze, he's potentially screwed. Don't know how that discussion started but it was more about FF7 trends than Cid having a chance to actually win (although I expect him to make Mega look bad).

I'm quite skeptical on Aeris>Cid. Vote in poll means little, and as I've mentioned before the completely minute difference there is probably due to "alphabetical factor" or something (Aeris first in the poll). They're probably pretty close anyway, but I think Cid>Aeris by a slight amount.

Cloud > Seph > Vincent > Tifa > Cid > everyone else.

I'd peg Cid~=Red XIII. It's possible Cid>Red XIII, but I think Red XIII>Cid is actually more likely. Though again they're likely not too far apart. Regardless Red XIII would be beasting on 3/4th of this bracket.
