Just when you thought this match would be boring, a new bit of intrigue comes into play. Yes, the outcome is still obvious, but earlier today it looked like GlaDOS was a lock to double up Fawful, and yet Fawful is bringing the fury and trying to fight back to avoid it. Come on, Fawful, you can do it!

Also, I wouldn't be so confident in Liquid > Altair if only because Liquid looked so good last year that it actually doesn't make much sense (like, for example, what's he expected to do to Frog based on 2k8?). His performance in the vote-in poll was underwhelming, to say the least.

Analysis

In four-ways rematches were quite common because of the style of the bracket and usually people didn’t fret about it because more often than not the main attraction of the match wasn’t the two characters. Vivi and Donkey Kong had their first meeting back in the 2004 contest where Vivi won a debated match with ease. A lot has happened over those years including two or three site shifts, but despite all that Vivi is the main consensus to win the match with ease.

This match is made simpler to debate if you look over the past few years. Tidus and Vivi were about equal to each other in 2007 and in the previous contest Tidus was able to win quite easily over the ape. You can’t really blame Tails LFF Donkey Kong because for Donkey Kong to be comparable almost all of Tails’ votes need to go to him plus it looks like Sonic characters don’t have much overlap with Nintendo given their abysmal performances so far this contest.

This is match is more about where Donkey Kong stands against Vivi relative to 2004. I wouldn’t be surprised if it remained constant despite everything changing around them. This may also be the first contest where Donkey Kong doesn’t choke and since we can’t have that Donkey Kong will either take a lead only to lose it or Vivi will approach a doubling on him, remember it’s not a contest unless Donkey Kong chokes.

I actually thought MMX's performance was awful this round, so that kind of backs that up for me. Sub-Zero... man, I'll believe in Tidus pulling an upset when I see it. :(

Liquid *was* almost abnormally good last year...but so were Big Boss and (pre-steroids) Snake. Even Raiden didn't do half bad on MC.

He/they might be back down to Earth this year, or they might not, but all Liquid's got to do is beat someone who lost to Duke Nukem twice.

I'm one of those people who believe in Altair getting a non-trivial boost from Assassin's Creed. Not that it would matter if Liquid is legit, and Altair's starting from a low, low point... but I've seen how stupid the voters are.

Hmm. I have no idea what the first post in this topic is about :) Read to the couple pages but didn't really get what was going on. However -

I'll try to put on my care face.

Then doesn't this mean you shouldn't have any right to complain - ever - when anyone does pretty much anything with these topics? I'm not understanding the attitude here. Need improvement.

You're right on the conclusion, if wrong on the premise... but there are a LOT of similar instances I can point to where that logic was upended.

Well perhaps pepole who played just one of the games will give the other a proxy vote :)

More likely though franchise momentum can play a factor, with AC2 boosting Altair slightly due to bringing players of the first game back to the site.

I would hope people aren't taking Zack > Yuna because VII > X, but rather because Zack > Yuna. The argument that the character from the stronger game would win the SFF battle has always been bunk, the stronger character wins the SFF battle.
