As for Altair/Liquid, I have a hard time trusting anything MGS this year despite Ocelot and The Boss. I think the guys that took Snake > Sephiroth are crazy. That said, I think Altair has it. It's probably one of the bigger tossups though.

Fawful and Red are making handheld-stars look bad while Rikku represented FFX well enough and Cecil's giving hope to Dissidia-characters. I took Jecht and am sticking with it based on what little stuff we've seen that can relate to the match.

If Phoenix can fight one-on-one like he could in four-ways though, he's got a shot.

So i was thinking, and ive come to a conclusion that it is extremely hard to change a characters performance year-to-year because of bracket votes. The educated bracketmakers pick the characters who traditionally do well, and here and there pick some small upsets. Once contest time rolls around, voters vote for whoever they have in there bracket. This ends up not giving newer characters or characters who didnt do great in previous contests a chance to, well, get better/stronger. In conclusion it takes several years for characters to improve and no one will drastically change their power from the previous year.

Yep, and with Ocelot being closer to Red than I expected and The Boss reminding me why I should never make late switches in my bracket, I figure Liquid's going to look fine compared to 2008. Altair could boost from AC2 (he and Ezio are both 2-seeds this year, which impresses me considering how much better AC2's supposed to be), but I don't buy it yet...and it'll be amazing if it's enough to catch Liquid. Liquid's beaten Alucard in a close one and is a little behind Luigi...whereas Altair's a little behind Duke Nukem but outdid Niko against him. Pretty clear difference.

Red would have done better if the match was 24 hours, and his performance doesn't make him fodder or anything. You can barely lose to Pac-Man and still be above the fodderline (but just barely) and Pac had a huge picture advantage at the time.

I don't have much room to talk about Red considering how I was hyping him, but Ocelot is probably a great deal stronger than he was in 2005 when he lost to Pac-Man. Just look at Liquid or Big Boss.

I could ask the same about Geno.

As for Ness he looked above the fodder line whenever he's not against a Smash character.

Also Squall/Geno SFF? If there's no overlap between old and new square then what reason is there to think there is one for Geno?

Considering how big his range was supposed to be, he was very low in that range. Red didn't look good, whether or not he won, because he barely won and we know Revolver's history.

Except that nobody cared about Red and that the game was about the Pokemon. His range wasn't high, people made it that high.

And honestly, me using Red or Fawful to look at Phoenix is a poor stretch, and using Cecil/Rikku to justify Jecht isn't much better. That's just all we got so far this contest as far as Phoenix/Jecht goes.
