This match isn't really worrying me that much to be honest. We've seen the board overreact to round 1 results before. And Sonic has historically sucked **** against weaker opponents (68% on KEN MASTERS..?) and then held his own against the likes of Mega Man and Crono. He's definitely the weakest link against the NN (well.. MAYBE Crono.. they're almost equal) but I think the NN will stay intact. And I agree with the sprite round saving him, which will carry over against the match with Kirby.

That was a long long time ago. Whether or not Ken is weak now, it wasn't a bad performance then.

Crono/Sonic looked pretty clear cut in favor of Crono last year: Crono went even with Vincent, and Sonic got 46% on Auron and 48% on Kirby. It wasn't so clear how Megaman stands in relation to them, thanks to the Cube.

He might disappoint against Missingno in round 1, but I feel very good about him against Yoshi in round 2. He's never had a bad match against a Mario series character, and won't be starting now with Yoshi looking weaker than since 2004 at least.

Lightning's always had a lot of potential. If Square's plan to make FFXIII the biggest FF since VII succeeds, then naturally she'll have the potential to beat any of the Square near-elites, and depending on how big it gets, also (even CTDS-boosted) Crono. Dunno how much of that potential she'll realize though, and I'm actually a tad disappointed she's only putting up 58% in Asia right now. I mean, the game already came out there, and Sonic's never been strong there.

And Lightning/Knuckles would be somewhat debatable right now going by how well she's doing against Sonic.

Lightning's doing great here, but she's also gotten a decent amount of her strength and this match is definitely her more favorable time. She'll do well next year when FF13 lands worldwide, but we're already seeing big hype and Asia in action here...she probably won't be doing anything TOO crazy. That won't keep people from over-rating her though.

Albion, it's always been a minor miracle to me that Crono is able to hang with Mario at all, so I don't consider any of those losses bad matches. Crono never looked bad at the end of any of them either.

but Knuckles is the "Square-killer" his record against Square-characters are 5-1. his only Square-loss was against Squall.

If you put him against Lightning it would be a guarantee that she would lose, and then all hope for a strong character this decade would be lost.

FFXIII isn't going to be the biggest FF game since VII, that's an impossible expectation to live up to. It'll be doing great if it can come in near FFX or FFVIII. I'm kinda inclined to agree with Harrich that she'll get stronger once the game is out, but she isn't going to be the new Vincent or whatever.

Lightning has the potential to be stronger then Squall if FFXIII lives up to expectations. I think it can, especially since it sounds like more of FFX (with it being linear being the only real complaint I've heard, and people seem to love that for some reason here).

That's not to say it can't be one of the strongest FF games, but that shouldn't be assumed heading in by any means. That's not the reception it's gotten from people who have played it.
