Red had 51% of the casual bracket support, and the casuals have actually been smart this year. It was a debatable match that we all sided on Red for because Ocelot tends to choke.

Nah, beating Jill is more impressive than beating Drake. Jill beats Drake pretty easily.

My too-long experience with the Crew leaves me with no illusions of it being a good barometer for the board by any metric. The Guru, the BOP, the Oracle, these had decisive support for Red.

Decisive support doesn't always mean the match is a lock. Often times it just means the match is debatable (which it was, I saw arguments everywhere over it) but one pick just feels a lot 'safer'. 75% of people picking Red means he should've been the favorite, not the clear favorite.

Right, but you can measure the intensity and confidence of support to at least some degree using the Oracle. And just at a glance, it is littered with Red blowout picks.

I saw several people on the board asking whether or not it was Red from the Pokemon games (who they would vote for) or Pokemon Trainer from Brawl (who they would not). I don't think the pic made a huge difference, but it definitely did not inspire confidence in a close match.

It's gotta be lower. Seeing the "2" by anyone's name will mean much to any bracket maker who isn't completely sure.

I don't think it will make much of a difference overall. Amaterasu was able to get only 36% while being a 6 seed while Mega Man X got 75% being a 13 seed.

I think Nathan Drake being fresh off of the GotY poll will be a larger factor.

Oh, and Ocelot is pretty obviously stronger than The Boss. You don't even have to think hard about that - Tails vs Jill is a pretty damn easy match to call. Ocelot's on the low side of midcarders and The Boss is on the high side of fodder, but there's definitely a difference there.
