Luigi > MK has always been a lock. Luigi and Bowser have each beaten Kirby and Kirby would beat MK pretty easily. Luigi has beaten Bowser and Pikachu with respectable margins while MK didn't beat Princess Peach by much (pre-SSBB, to be fair). MK is a fan-fave in SSBB, but Luigi's been in the SSB-series since the beginning and will not give up a lot of ground in that territory. This will also be the first time we've seen MK in a one-on-one match -- we've never seen him have more than 22.61% in a poll, so I wonder how much of that is the hardcore crowd and if MK will continue looking as good in this format.

I do think MK will look pretty good in the match (as in resisting SFF for the most part), but he's certainly not winning it.

Oh wow, Price doing pretty well for himself. I'm not saying anything about what this means for the other CoD characters. I'm still not convinced MM = MMX (I'd argue not, personally), so this could just be MMX not being as strong as we thought. Not trying to take anything away from Price, but I'm going to wait for more evidence to roll in before I make any judgments. MMX had absolutely nothing definitive from last year's contest to work from.

Yesterday's chart:

Time | Red | Ocelot | Votes
0:05 | 54.63% | 45.37% | 1362
1:00 | 52.36% | 47.64% | 10316
2:00 | 51.35% | 48.65% | 6664
3:00 | 48.52% | 51.48% | 5157
4:00 | 49.17% | 50.83% | 3856
5:00 | 46.21% | 53.79% | 3352
6:00 | 47.09% | 52.91% | 3071
7:00 | 47.57% | 52.43% | 2899
8:00 | 47.31% | 52.69% | 3008
9:00 | 48.79% | 51.21% | 3642
10:00 | 50.58% | 49.42% | 4717
11:00 | 52.29% | 47.71% | 5387
12:00 | 52.08% | 47.92% | 6139

Ocelot actually won a majority of the hours and had the best hour percentage-wise in the match, but Red won most of the hours with the highest vote totals, which made the difference.

I had Ammy at first but switched to Shadow. I don't think there's a lot of good logic to be had for either side though -- it's either "Shadow sucks in recent years" or "Ammy doesn't seem like she can easily reach 50%." I imagine both are true, but since it's a day-match and we've seen Shadow do well one-on-one before (which is unfair since Ammy's never had a one-on-one match, in hindsight), I'll try my luck on Shadow again.

Then again though, here's my track-record on Shadow:

2003: Wario > Shadow (on my birthday!)
2004: Shadow > Tidus
2007: took Shadow to R3 over Bowser and Ryu
2008: took Shadow to advance out of his division with Link

That's right, I've only ever gotten one match right about Shadow (Auron > Shadow in R1).

I think Albion is on the money. Board 8 is too traditional to think Western characters are getting strong.

I think this is more MMX disappointing than Price impressing, though it's a bit of both. X isn't as strong as Mega Man, and it's probably not even close. Do we really think Price is as strong as Tidus?

I mean, people other than Albion. Who's the strongest Western character anyway? Arthas?

Interestingly, for those who think ToS is affected by Nintendo (Kratos Aurion by CF and Diddy being the popular example, though maybe Kratos/Midna as well), I'll bring up what I said in my Sackboy defense as potential for MM > MMX: Lloyd Irving did better against MMX with Mudkip and Tom Nook in the poll than Lloyd did against Zero one-on-one. If Kratos Aurion was bothered by Diddy/CF/Midna, Lloyd was probably bothered by Mudkip/Nook...which would make Zero > MMX look pretty possible.

That's jumping the gun, but evidence and suspicion is really starting to mount up against MMX being on MM's level.

This isn't really surprising. Price is an unknown from the game that just won GOTY, and I doubt MMX is quite at the level of Megaman. Red's still breaking 40% on him (got to outdo Mudkip at least!).

Yeah, Ammy over Shadow seems like a safe bet. Never pick a character with a heavy anti-fanbase in a 1v1. Shadow is much stronger in 4-ways, where the half of the Sonic fanbase that loves him unites to vote for him and the half that hates him is split between three other characters, or at the very least, will largely end up supporting the character that would have finished in first either way.

Still marveling at that Red > Ocelot result. Nothing like a good close one to get us started off right!

And Tidus? Tidus would score way higher on Megaman now than what he got in 2004. That Megaman also got 57% on Snake (a weaker Snake, granted, but still impressive).

No way, everyone knows that Team Sonic is terrible in fourways. Either that or they've all died since 2007, which isn't that implausible, but...Also Ammy isn't a day powerhouse.

Megaman/MMX is a weird match. I think MMX would have a really good chance in a direct match but Megaman is probably a few points stronger otherwise. 40% on Mudkip was bad, although he did pretty well in the 3 matches against Mario. It's really hard to gauge X, as this is the first 1v1 he's been in, and his 4-way results are just riddled with SFF.
