Also, if we were to compare Drake of last year to Daxter of 2007..

Daxter is estimated to get 23% on Wesker
Drake is estimated to get 26% on CATS.

Who knows how Drake and Daxter match would go, but that's a pretty low ceiling for somebody like that. There are a few reasons we think this: popularity, appeal, and both.

I still have to ask though, how many new action characters ever get this low? It's hard to find some valid comparisons as most action games are multiplatform and are not only on one console (although that only makes him look worse).

The way I see it, Drake could still beat The Boss, but he'll still have a lot of things to overcome that. I doubt he'll lose to people like Ratchet anymore, but that's still not enough to an extent.

What matters is that Pokemon is pretty independent of Nintendo now. That's all that matters.

Again those Pokemon/Nintendo fans don't disappear when Pokemon became cool again. Also characters like Pikachu have the Smash series that keeps him connected to Nintendo.

sometimes you gotta go with common sense, not just stats

and common sense is that Drake is one of the most popular new characters this gen if you look at him being all over gaming sites these days. And common sense dictates one of the most popular characters this gen > least popular mgs character who hasn't been relevant in over half a decade

There is common sense, and then, there is GameFAQs. Common sense works, but only so much. It would have worked for Niko, or it would have worked for Marcus Fenix, but simply having a huge action game on GameFAQs isn't enough to guarantee you anything. I still have questions about the guy's appeal, and simply because his game grew doesn't mean he'd grow to the same extent.

I think the match will be pretty close, personally.

Common sense would have also said Vercetti was a powerhouse in 2003 and Carl Johnson wasn't equal to Jak. Common sense had most of the board taking Midna over Scorpion and Balthier over Ada Wong. Heck common sense had people freaking out that Brawl was going to ride the last contest.

If it make you feel better I think Nathan should be the favourite in that match and people should stop focussing on 2008. In theory CATS would get 100% on a nonexistent character yet when the game is released they can easily recover and defeat CATS.

Talking about Fisher though, I'm kinda disappointed he didn't make the contest this year. He has his biggest game since last gen coming out mid contest and that coulda helped him get over that fodder line.

Tails also had Zelda to deal with in 2007, if you're implying a Nintendo-connection. I can't tell if you're saying that or just votes off of recognition though.

To be fair, Eddie Riggs is all about Jack Black. He's modeled after him, the entire game is being promoted by Jack Black, etc.

yeah but when you at the marketing it's all different, GTA was about GTA being GTA, Brutal legend was like MC is jack black and Ozzy osbourne pops up, I don't think people realize jackson is tenpenny tbh.

Eddie Riggs strikes me as being a lot more like Jack Black than Tenpenny like Samuel L. Jackson, but I've not played Brutal Legend.


NSMBW isn't exactly doing bad given that it improved from last month, but it's certainly not good. I imagine it improved on MW2 because MW2 dropped like Halo 2 did (though I dunno if we can blame it dropping, others rising, or general inaccuracies with GotY-polls yet). NSMBW should be able to close the gap between it and MW2 in the coming years too, but that doesn't really matter for this poll.

Black's stock was certainly high at oe point, getting cast into a project like King Kong could have boosted his career as a serious actor and a lot of his films did get positive reviews from critics like be kind rewind. But Black seems to be like pokemon, everyone loved him at the start, but like pokemon did at one point, everyone is now trying to distance themselves from him, so maybe he'll come storming back one day.
