Well then Soul, what arguments have you made to support Alucard winning? I haven't seen a single thing aside from "Well he looked like crap in that Sandbag match", which is obviously a pointless argument given how weird Sonic's matches were all contest.

Magus's problem is he only has strength when vote totals are low.

You really could say the exact same thing about Alucard. At least Magus has had CT:DS to give him SOME life. Alucard has been on a steady decline since 2002...

Let's take a look at the Sandbag matches. First it goes even with Magus and gets 40% on Sonic, then in the second round Sonic doubles it but somehow gets his ass beat by Auron. Then Sonic gets 42% on a somewhat SFF'd Sephiroth.

Aside from the stupidity of trying to use 2008 numbers to justify picks this year, there really isn't any arguments in those numbers to support Magus losing to Alucard. I'm still waiting for a cohesive argument aside of "LOL HE LOST TO A BAG OF SAND"

I haven't seen this match mentioned yet, but it should be pretty important. In 2006, Auron got 64.5% on Alucard and Crono got 54.5% on Auron, which projects Alucard to around 32% on Crono. How far do you think Magus is from Crono? In 2005, the stats had him at 40% on Crono, and even if he might be overrated, he's still clearly far above 32%. 2003 and 2004 also put Magus far above 32% on Crono.

Of course, Magus has fallen relative to Crono, but how far can that proportion really shift?

I'm going to wait a few more minutes to make sure this isn't just early-vote madness, but I said for awhile that it would take Uncharted 2 overturning its previous loss to NSMBW (which was like 53-47 close already) for me to reconsider The Boss > Drake...

...Uncharted 2 is killing NSMBW in these first fifteen minutes though; I don't recall NSMBW ever being behind in the other poll. If this maintains, I'm switching...and I hate making changes in my bracket after the first week.

That's the point. BT's saying we shouldn't use 4-way numbers for Magus, but we don't HAVE anything else.

That's one point. My other is that we have even less supporting a viable Alucard pick. You have that awesome Liquid Snake match, but we have no idea where he sits either, and once again, I'd take Knuckles over Liquid now that MGS4 has cooled down.

it's nice to see Uncharted 2 finally get some respect from you guys. I haven't made up my mind on Boss/Drake yet, but watching this makes it hard to feel confident in Boss.

that said, MGS3 doubles Uncharted 2 easily. MGS3 would murder this crappy GOTY poll.

Far enough.

Quick: Magus vs. Liquid, who you got?

Really, since 2005, Crono hasn't fallen too far. Then he was just stronger than Mega Man, now he's probably just a bit weaker, unless you think MM has also dropped.

Also, it's pretty clear that Liquid (and MGS characters in general) were very beastly in 2008 thanks to MGS4. I think it would be a close one if they were to run this year.
