Surprised that Dragon Age is doing so badly though.

Albion, what kind of votals do the Gamespot GOTY polls get? If the voting isn't prominent on the front page, like with their contest, then stuff like Dragon Age > MW2 becomes more understandable.

Batman and Uncharted are usually compared to each other, with Uncharted being a little bit more popular. I would expect that to hold true here as well - Uncharted will probably have about the same percentage on MW2.

MW2 and Uncharted are locks for the final three. Dissidia and ODST should be given a chance, but I think NSMBWii is the big favorite for third.

I wonder if Mario can somehow pull another hilarious miracle out of that cheating hat of his. Remember last year that Brawl lost to MGS4 in the big vote-off but then won the final polls. Of course, Mario has to be very close tomorrow for that to even be possible. Unlikely.

Given how 2005 marked the release of Civilization IV I doubt I would rank it as a bad year. One of my current favorites, though had I played it as much as most everyone else from 2005 to now I'd have to emit to be tired of it.

Aside from 2009, I dunno what would be the worst year for gaming this decade. But don't forget that Beyond Good and Evil > Sands of Time (then again, probably not at this site!).

Given how 2005 marked the release of Civilization IV I doubt I would rank it as a bad year.

And here's what we'll (probably) be getting tomorrow:

In the past, Best Running MMORPG has always come after multiplatform (with the exception of last year only), so we'll probably get that tomorrow. Seeing as WoW has always won that poll with over 50% and that the winner of that poll doesn't get to move onto the GotY poll, Bacon should probably cut that poll this year. And after Best Running MMORPG, we will be getting System of the Year.

Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ!

I'm still taking BD > Soap; I need a reason to believe the MW-games can make their fanbase care about their characters, and I've not seen a very good one yet. BD did well enough last year (I think it and Freeman LFF'd some) and in the vote-in poll this year despite Andrew Ryan in the same poll. Throw in Bioshock 2 coming out shortly before the match, and, yeah, I'll stick with the big ugly guy for now.


It's not out of NSMBW's range to win that one. Who really knows what to expect from that?

It's not out of its range? It's the favorite. NSMBW beat Uncharted 2 there and was more dominant in its system's GotY-poll, plus NSMBW is going to stand out the most of the options. Uncharted 2 will impress me if it beats NSMBW in either of the last GotY-polls.

Somehow I had deluded myself into thinking Batman might be able to beat MW2. Oh well.

yeah, Mario should probably be the early favourite for second. it has a tiny outside chance at first, but it'll take fanbase splits and sticking out like a sore thumb to even get close to that.

2009 is a bad year for AAA releases.

Big Daddy is a generic enemy from a crappy game.

Soap is basically the badassed main character of the 2 biggest games of the last 3 years. Sure CoD games are multiplayer centric, but I can't see Soap losing here. And unlike guys like Price or MacMillan, he has a really unique name/look to avoid the whole "can't tell guys in a war movie/game apart" thing.

Though we're only two hours into today's poll, it looks like AC2 has jumped since its last appearance; AC2 's gone from 29.74% on MW2 to 34.36%. MW2 looks to be doing about as well or better on its other common opponents from the last poll (Borderlands, DA:O, L4D2), so we can't really say anything about MW2's hype dying like we talked about with Halo 2, at least right now.

Batman. Several Batman-movies set opening-weekend records in America and it's an action-game. I think that's going to go over better with our American kiddies than most RPGs.

I don't expect anything from Soap. Big Daddy has a much more iconic and recognizable design, plus he plays a huge part in the upcoming Bioshock 2.

I expect Soap to be weaker than Niko myself.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I feel it'd be close last year and if Niko's dropped I'd pick Big Daddy.

How do people expect Duke Nukem/Marth and Gordon Freeman/Scorpion to play out? I'd say that latter has more total popularity.
