GlaDOS vs. Fawful This one confuses me a lot. Either one looks like a good contender for the win, but which one would likely win here? GlaDOS is the favourite, but I can't really ignore Fawful, his appearance in Mario & Luigi 3 was pretty big while Portal is another year older. Eizo (not doing the full name) vs. Simon Belmont This one's also an iffy one to me. Which one is more likely to win here? Ezio would have to flop really have to lose to Belmont. I wouldn't be surprised if the vote-ins inflated old icons because of the way the question was worded Ryu vs. Balthier Bunansa Am I the one guy here rooting for him, or is he doomed to fail here? Because seriously, I know he messed up in that one round before, but do you think he'd have a chance now(ignoring that one mess-up)? Ryu is a contender to being the strongest non-Nintendo/Square/Noble Nine character, I don't see him losing. Auron vs. Squall This is my toughest choice to make here. Most likely these two would fight each other, but who would be the safe bet here? If i remember correctly, i think you have posted a thread asking this question before, the consensus is still the same, Ryu is at the very least a top 25 character in the contest while Balthier lost to someone like Ada Wong, their disparity in strength is far apart and the result is pretty much set in stone. Put it this way, Ryu should have no problem doubling Balthier. |

Sure Balthier flopped hard in 2007, but like Midna both did a lot better in 2008. Taking
a look at the current ownership. The first number indicates current
ownership, second number is the rise over the last six months and the
third is the rise over the last twelve months DS – 69.91% (+0.27) (+1.65) PSP – 49.04% (+4.72) (+6.03) PS3 – 52.76% (+11.79) (+16.17) Wii – 66.17% (+2.88) (+3.51) X360 – 57.72% (+0.81) (+1.75) PS3 is obviously the winner, PSP and Wii got a decent boost over the latter six months. to mention this is just the iPhone/iPod Touch. This poll doesn't
include any other iPod items, like the smaller versions or the large
hard drives. Pretty sure if the poll included any iPod it'd be larger. But these two are the actual gaming ones, so they're most relevant. Makes me wonder if there's any iPod-exclusive characters that are popular enough to get into a contest. Probably not. --- Not Wylvane |

There's gotta be an iPod-character we can get behind to be everything Jay Solano should have been. I don't know if anybody's counted the newcomers yet, but we have seventeen new guys this year...considerably lower than last year (we had at least thirty-two, though I forget the exact number). Who do you think the top five will be? My guess: 1) Cid Highwind - major FF7-character, competed with Aeris in the vote-in poll and easily beat her in NA...yeah, he should be our strongest newcomer. Maybe not by much if he disappoints and/or somebody else impresses, but it should be clear. 2) Charizard 3) Red 4) Missingno - I do not like ranking these three, but I do think all three of them would be stronger than any other newcomer this year aside from Cid. Since I think Pokemon-fans are bigger fans of the Pokemon than the trainers, I'll take Charizard > Red...and I'll discredit Missingno as a joke though it kicked ass in the highest-drawing vote-in poll despite Mudkip/Jigglypuff and Toad. Red's range scares me though; he could give Cid a damn good match if I'm under-rating him much. 5) Ezio Auditore di Firenze - Altair did well enough and AC2 aims to be bigger and better. like GotY polls won't be starting until January 2nd this year, since we
haven't even gotten a "Got a gaming-quality PC?" poll. The last time
GotY polls started any later than January 1st was way back in 2005 with

At most, we could only have 13 days of GotY polls if they start on January 2nd. I think it will be for only 12 days, since there will probably be a poll about whether or not you filled out a bracket already. I think he should only do 11 days of GotY polls, in the event a "Game of the Year (Final, Final Vote)" is required (remember what happened last year with SSBB/MGS4). If the "Game of the Year (Final, Final Vote)" is not required this year, then there could be 2 days of polls related to the contest. Honestly, I'm starting to think the contest doesn't start on the 15th, because I have trouble seeing only 11 GotY polls. Sure Bacon said mid-January, but January 20th could still be considered mid-January. I believe the "Got your Bracket in?" poll is almost certain, and the poll asking who we expect to win is also sounds very likely. --- A pro isn't someone who sacrifices himself for his job. GotY polls seems more likely, but means only one day for a poll related
to the contest. And in the event there is a "Game of the Year (Final,
Final Vote)" in addition to the 12 GotY polls, then that means there is
no slot open for a single poll related to the contest. Unless Bacon

15th. I'm sure he can fit Game of the Year stuff into those days... we
can probably cut out PS2 at this point, and maybe best remake and best
original title as well... that would take us down to 13 polls from the

originally predicted that there would be no PS2 poll before our "Got
Console?" polls started. Now that I know there won't be a "Got
PlayStation 2?" poll this time around, I know for sure we won't have a
PS2 GotY this year. I can't even think of any PS2 exclusives. Any PS2
games I know of being released this year were also released on other
consoles. I also predict there will be no Best Downloadable Game, Best Remake, or Best New Original Title polls, because the only time those were run were for last year's GotY polls. That would cut the GotY polls from 16 to 12. It will be 11 if there's no "Final, Final Vote" poll or no "Game of the Century/Decade". There is also the Best Running MMORPG poll, which has been run for 4 years straight so far. Cid,
Charizard and Ezio will appear in the top 5, after that the line is a
bit blurry. Lightning would be on it had FFXIII come out in North
Ameria then you have lower mid-carders/high fodder in Revan, Jecht, Red
and Soap. Finally you have potential surprises in Price, Ellis, Fawful,
Missingno and Vault Boy. I see nothing but failure in Claptrap, Eddie

What's
the comparison with Price and Soap again? I believe Soap is your main
guy in both CoD4 and MW2, whereas Price means...what to the series
again? I've only played CoD4's multi-player and don't know their roles

gonna be pissed to see the original-GotY and downloadable-GotY be
removed this year if SB really does that. Those were two great
additions to the GotY-series last year (though the remake-GotY was
pretty unnecessary). would be comfortable seeing the contest be delayed to cover them
(damnable thought, I know) or just cut the bracket-poll and Got
PC?-poll. None of them are very likely, but those are two good
GotY-polls to keep because of the trends of sequels dominating and the
downloadable scene improving. It was great having them last year, and
cutting them this year probably means they don't come back for future

I've never played Call of Duty before, but it was massively popular in
my dorms in college, and I never heard anyone talk about any of the
