Mario would be the strongest characters who has been a main hero and a main villian but not in the same game.

Dissidia won't help much. Its aimed at a fanbase that already would vote for those characters.

Couldn't you argue the same thing for Kingdom Hearts though? And that definitely had an effect. Granted it was a console RPG with Disney in it as well, and I'm not expecting anything remotely near that success, I'm just saying there might me some residual effects.

I'm expecting Dissidia to give a small boost to characters that haven't had much for them in recent years... like Kefka, Terra, Jecht, etc. But it shouldn't really do much for the Squalls and Clouds

Well how were Dissidia's sales? Or do sales even mean much in terms of GameFAQs popularity these days?

Only about 300k or so. Crisis Core more than doubled Dissidia's sales.

Well, ok Dissidia will help some.

For Smash Bros I feel like the average person playing is less likely to know come other characters from other games, like Ike/Marth/Roy, or maybe even Snake, Olimar, ROB (!?), Falcon, etc. Any of these characters would definitely be a lot less popular without Smash Bros.

People like Kefka and such I do not think will get that kind of boost. People playing Dissidia are more likely to know the :other characters" than Brawl players who may be introduced to more characters they know a little but are less familiar with having already played those games. you can buy Brawl and only be familiar with one or two characters. I feel like to justify buying Dissidia you would want to know more characters in it first.

Kingdom Hearts I feel differently about. You aren't going to buy KH purely for the fact that there's FF characters in it. In fact thats why KH is so good of a boost. Someone can play it knowing NOTHING about the FF guys and being introduced to those guys for the first time- like Cloud, Seph, Squall, etc and thinking they're really cool, and starting to like them because of it. That's why KH works. A person who has no knowledge of FF characters is very unlikely to buy (or probably like) Dissidia.

Who cares about Jecht's personality? Its cool yes. But you don't get to play as him and he's not a villain. That will hurt a lot. Sure you do in Diss and Jecht will get some sort of boost from that, but it won't be much.
And I'm not sure if I would pick Rikku over PW.

the screen time is the only thing that jecht has going against him... and if Zack can become a near elite through 5 minutes of FFVII, when Jecht has at least 10 times that, then I don't think thats an issue for making Jecht at least a midcard

on Soap - he could win because the competition is bad, but every argument I'm seeing is the exact same argument I saw for Terra beating Dante. stop it.

on Jecht - he probably beats Phoenix just because Phoenix is bound to be weaker in a fourway. but I'll be cheering for Phoenix.

on Fawful - most people aren't even going to know who this guy is, only the really hardcore Nintendo fans. but at least he's got a face as opposed to Glados. what a match.

the thing is that we're talking about him beating characters who lost to balthier and pac man. using "super popular game" against characters nobody cares about is different then using it against an elite character

I'm far more receptive to Soap than other people will be, so let me help you here. your argument should not be "the game is popular!", but rather "why is Soap popular?". when you start to answer that, maybe somebody will pay attention. until then, you're just sleepwalking through the argument.

I'm not going to argue that he would be that strong himself... Captain Price is stronger then he would be since he has a lot of one liners and gets more screen time. But when you're dealing with characters nobody cares about, I'm more inclinced to think that the man people on Gamefaqs who do play CoD would just vote for him over characters they've never heard of

Yeah but you can't really compare Soap to Alucard, Liquid Snake, and Pac-Man can you? Ness has beaten his fair share of guys. Jak, Carl Johnson (his game made just as much noise as CoD4), and Ness has equal'd Scorpion back in the day. I just don't see Soap being that cared about.
