I'm going to make a prediction here:

The format will hurt the characters who benefit from people just coming to the site for FAQs, seeing the poll, and voting, the most. It will hurt characters whose fanbases follow the contest closely the least. That is, I expect characters who do well in the power hour to prosper under this format (and the flip side of this is that I expect FFVII will not prosper).

Snake/Sephiroth is a pretty tough match to call here. That's going to be a day match, which I think works great for Snake. Snake's day vote is slightly better now due to Brawl. And Sephiroth is still Sephiroth with his bad day vote.

MGS4 is also farther away now from the release date since the last time Snake was in a match, so Snake has a possible reason to drop in strength since last year.

And having said that, I've made up my mind on Snake/Sephiroth. It's going to be the most anticipated match of the contest, hopefully the kind of match that highlights what 1v1 is all about.

Just took a quick look at the bracket, initial thoughts:

- Some pretty weak placement for NNers and the nears (Vincent getting fed to Sephy in round 2? Mega Man getting a joke half-division then getting fed to Mario again? Squall/Snake again? Really?)
- A couple of interesting-on-paper weak matches but nothing to write home about
- All in all, a pretty crappy bracket. Too much fodder-crap clogging up the contest

These night and day matches will be interesting because it allows us to see which continents have a higher percentage of the total votes in one match compared to the other match hosted on the same day. North America contributes about 76% of the votes in a 24 hour match and that percentage should be higher in the day matches and lower in the night matches.

I'm still laughing that Mewtwo > Pac-Man was not the consensus. Everyone always says that Ness gets most of his strength from SSB and Ness/Pac-Man would be a close match without any interference.

Everyone is operating under the assumption that the first match (Link's) is a night match.

But there's been no official word, as far as I know.

I have Dante winning that pack. I had Leon winning for a moment, then went back to check the past Dante/Leon matches. Somehow in my memory they were closer. Promptly switched to Dante.

Took Chief to win against Hayabusa, I'm putting my trust in his day vote for better or worse.

I dunno, Leon looked pretty good last few years, and he's had RE5 since last contest. What has Danta had? My money is on Ryu, but I think there's potential.
