Alright, I've used the results of our six play-ins to come up with an estimate of how this season's 128 character slots are going to break down. The seeding presumes the following:

* the top 92 most-nominated characters were locked into the bracket based on their # of noms
* the next 72 were entered into Play-In matches to earn their spot in the bracket
* the top 36 out of those 72 were given seeds 12-16, based on if they earned a Top Six finish in their Play-In poll

Personally I think that's the system that makes the most sense, and I think it also results in a pretty realistic range of characters. But I'll let you judge that for yourself!

im not talking about bacon caring. im talking about what makes sense. when we have this many snubs, something seems off, which is why I don't see below 4 as a very viable option

How about top 8? The characters divide more evenly than top 6, no noticeable snubs like top 4, and it's not like the 8th place characters are too weak to be 16 seed fodder.

9 Weighted Companion

Yeah, he forgot the Cube, but whatever. Agree on Edgey, disagree on the rest. Sho's the fan favorite over Neku, Travis's game is a year older, Nook/Isaac/Geno are possible but didn't get anything notable this year and were low seeds to begin with, Sandbag's a year removed from Brawl, and Frank was in one of the polls.

Think these have mostly been covered but I'll give some brief comments anyways.

Weighted Companion Cube - in, I just shortened the name to fit into Excel better
Miles Edgeworth - I figured PW would have lost a little steam, and yes, Godot got the big rally this year so I figured there wouldn't be noms to go around
Travis Touchdown - only a #13 in '08 at his peak, I can't quite picture him as a 10-11 this year
Sandbag - SB forgot to add Sandbag and Hogger to the suggested name list despite their getting in last time. hard to see him overcoming that to earn such a high seed
Tom Nook - was a 13 last time so it's possible... guess I just thought a general decline in low tier Nintendo would do him in
Isaac - could very well be there, but only snuck in as a #15 in '08 so I guessed he would miss out
Geno - whoa, I actually have him down as an #11 from last year. Mario RPG's Virtual Console release is a year older, but even so... he could easily have made it to bump out someone else
Neku - could have beaten Sho, I don't know that fanbase well enough to speculate, but I'm thinking Sho was likely on the bottom rung in terms of play-ins noms
Frank West - as was mentioned, he was already involved in the play-ins

But yeah, I'm feeling pretty good about it being the Top Six. If it's only Top Four, you're talking about 104 different characters who would have had to outdraw MMX/Aerith/Frog/Cid/Sub-Zero/Liquid Snake in nominations this year. Even if you slide in borderliners like Tom Nook and Geno, who's going to fill the other 10 slots? Especially considering the fairly bad fodder I had to stick there just to get us to 92!

And at only Top Two you're expecting 116 to have outdrawn that MMX/Frog/Sub-Zero group, which is getting into really crazy territory IMO.

Assuming only first place advanced, that would mean there were only 58 characters that drew more nominations than all the characters in the Vote-In. I can't see that being true.

The idea of Gordon being a 1 seed and living up to it amuses me just as much as GFNW. Gordon's just funny like that, and I honestly would like to see him impress by a lot (though not enough to topple Mario here!).
