It's
not quite 12 way, but I don't think adding in FF12 will drop FF7 below
35%. Link is pretty beastly in terms of strength. He won't have the
benefit of SFFing the 3rd and 4th strongest, but he gets another 5% to
play with between 35% and 30%. I don't think it's unreasonably to think
Link has a shot at 30%. Well at least that poll settles that Link wouldn't be reaching high thirties with yesterday's field and unless Link is going to make an appearance tomorrow or if the format is 12-ways we may never know. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Krahenprophet for winning the guru contest |

I mean, I know his competition is bad, but I'd never pick the guy to beat HK-47 or Falco. Falco has other Nintendo characters to deal with. I wouldn't put much faith in this poll (or any 12-way poll for that matter) in determining strength. --- Calling Pokemon RBY a top 10 game was the most insane contest jibba-jabba ever Woe unto he who sig bets with the near-invincible Lord High creativename |

From: XxSoulxX | #304 And Vault Boy has other WRPG characters to deal with. Its really a wash, though we shouldn't guesstimate any real strength from these. While
we're talking about percentage floors, I think the one thing 2 years of
4-ways showed us more than anything else really is that the loyalty
theory is rubbish. Characters from games with "loyal" fanbases don't
gain an advantage from increasing the number of characters in the poll. On the other hand, games with "independent" fanbases do gain an advantage from increasing the poll. Independent means their fanbases overlap less with that of other games in the poll. That's obvious in clear LFF situations, but independent can also mean that the average person in a game's fanbase simply hasn't played as many games as the average person in another game's fanbase. Take a niche JRPG like Tales of Vesperia and compare it with, say, Halo. The average Tales of Vesperia fan has played a ton of video games, because if he had played only a few, Tales of Vesperia would not be one of them. We generally think this is a loyal fanbase, and maybe it is, but the more important thing is that it is very unindependent, because the average ToV fan has played so many other games. On the other hand Halo as a more mainstream game is naturally going to attract more people who have played only a few games. It also helps for independence that the Halo fanbase is pretty far off from the Nintendo/Square games that dominate this site. --- Link he come to town to dominate all other characters and trample them down with his sword of more votes. |

don't think Vault Boy is as affected by WRPG as Falco is by Nintendo,

Alby,
there are three Nintendo character here that share a game together.
Have we ever even seen WRPG-LFF/SFF before? I don't know if we've ever
really seen that for any RPGs (Tifa/Vyse comes to mind, but that's it)
whereas we've seen time and time again that Nintendo affects each
other. Not that I think it really matters much in this poll, but it's
not exactly a wash. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

Considering
I hadn't really heard of Alistair until today whereas I've heard of
Morrigan for awhile, I think that's part of it. Besides, HK-47 is doing
well despite Alistair and Vault Boy, so it's not a very strong point
for WRPG-LFF if you're being serious here. --- T E A M C H O C O L A T E http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7355/64590879.png |

(Tifa/Vyse comes to mind, but that's it) Nah, 2007 proved that Vyse just sucks now. The site shift took all the Skies of Arcadia fans away, I guess. And people are putting more weight on my comments than I put on them myself! I already said I don't put much stock in the poll in the first place! I was being more impressed with the fact that Vault Boy wasn't just bad fodder (which I was almost certain he would be). I didn't think he could get much more than this in a 4-way, much less in as 12-way. Yes, Belmont basically did the same thing yesterday (get as much in a 4-way as in a 12-way). From: charmander6000 | #318 Sounds like a good reason to nominate eleven fodder Pokemon next year! From: Mr3790 | #335 It did take Vincent until 2005 to make the bracket, and he's probably the strongest character outside the Noble Nine (or even in it, I'd sure as hell pick him over Sonic, though at this point I'd take Tidus over Sonic). Plus X doesn't stand out as much to the casual voter as Mega Man, and I do expect X to be weaker and not really be at Noble Nine level, much like any Noble Nine clone would be (Dark Link, Toon Link, Dark Samus, Zack, Luigi (semi-joking with last two, of course)). So it's not too surprising in retrospect he's down here, not that I predicted he'd be down here, of course. But yeah, no way I think X is Noble Nine material. Elite, probably, but I sure as hell wouldn't pick him over Mega Man, who I'm pretty sure is much more recognizable to gamers as far as names go despite the similar character designs. So how would a Mega Man/X match go? I'd guess 60/40 for Mega Man, but MM could crush X as bad as Zero for all we know. Or X's cool factor outweights Mega Man's more iconic appeal, but then again we've had cutesy beat cool before (hello, Pikachu and Kirby). Or maybe it'd actually be very close and one of those epic back-and-forth matches that Board 8 hates because it doesn't compare to CT/LttP or whatever match they cling on to for pathetic nostalgic reasons. --- Not Wylvane |
