Morrigan/Chun-Li would be interesting if the SF morning vote didn't exist.

Well, its not like a PC RPG should be lightning up the morning either

Yeah, but it's the SF Morning Vote. PC RPG Morning vote is the lesser of two evils there - and it's got console backing anyway.

Actually remembering pass Bioware game and character trends, like KOTOR, HK-47 and Shepard, its pretty much even all day after the first hour. So if Chunners wants to beat her, she needs to do some serious damage at night cuz Morrigan likely won't do too bad at day

Making it into the play-in proves that all those people nommed him though. At that point they've done as much as they could have; it's heartless to punish their hard work just because Vault Boy can't beat out 6 other characters site-wide.

I did a quick trend chart using a match from the 2007 contest:

Time | Sonic | Sub-Zero | Prince | Viewtiful Joe
EBV | 40.14% | 35.10% | 14.63% | 10.14%
PHV | 39.62% | 34.18% | 15.83% | 10.38%
FNV | 39.32% | 32.70% | 17.62% | 10.36%
BSV | 42.84% | 29.65% | 17.70% | 9.81%
DSV | 39.01% | 33.05% | 18.61% | 9.33%
ASV | 39.72% | 33.09% | 18.25% | 8.94%
SNV | 37.24% | 34.90% | 18.44% | 9.43%

The Prince starts off really horrible with the board vote and improves slightly by the end of the Power Hour (though that's still pretty bad).

like morrian, i bet 50% of her votes came from capcom fans who didn't see the dragon age bit.

HA

Cid losing to Aeris? Knew that was going to happen. If you think about it, outside of the 3 main characters and Vincent/Tifa, everything else from FF7 is scraping the bottom of the barrel by comparison.

Especially lol given the nosedive Aeris has taken in the last few years.

Man, you know this group is weak when Cid and Aerith take first and second place easily.

However, one of two things had better be true:

1. This isn't the last poll
2. Seifer and/or Laguna made it in safely

So is this poll looking to break the votals of the 2 previous ones?
FFVII is still a strong name everywhere, I'd just love it if at next E3 they just decide to show a remake trailer...only for the year after that the same trailer is shown, for 360.

Nah, Aerith and Cid are just a big whatever when it comes to contests. Aerith nearly let Akuma beat her, and Cid's going to be worse off. We're what, six or seven deep into FF7 now? Just gotta learn to settle with what you've got and let it be. We're getting pretty bad with the Pokemon, too -- we don't need to see 50 different ones, or the mute main character that no one cares about.

charmander6000 | Posted 12/11/2009 8:17:32 AM | message detail
lol at people thinking that Cid was stronger than Aerith. Aerith may not be as dominant as she was in 2002 and 2003, but she's pretty strong and almost losing to Akuma doesn't count when Squall was in the poll.

I guess everyone is on the calling her Aerith train now?

Aerith nearly let Akuma beat her, and Cid's going to be worse off.

This is a pretty silly thing to say. Aeris was in the poll with Squall and she was still comfortably ahead of Akuma. A 3000 vote difference isn't "nearly beating". Cid may not be the next Vincent, but he's still going to be a decent midcarder.

"In the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII, her name is Aerith, but it was translated as Aeris in the English version by SCEA. This is because the Japanese language doesn't have the "th" sound, and the closest thing is "su," the equivalent of the English-language "s" sound. The translators were mistaken when they spelled her name in English, and took the "su" sound in her Japanese name to mean an "s." However, since Kingdom Hearts, her name has been translated as Aerith in her appearances such as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, meaning that the Aeris name has been retconned. "

Its about time that Gamefaqs used her official name for polls

charmander6000 | Posted 12/11/2009 9:01:54 AM | message detail
If I remember linguistics it means that there was no direct translation to the meaning of her name. What ever her name is pronounced in Japanese means something which is the equivalent of Aerith in English.

red sox 777 | Posted 12/11/2009 9:09:05 AM | message detail
I suppose considering her last name (obviously English) that makes sense. The creators of the game first named her in English, then translated it to Japanese for the release there. Then SCEA translated the Japanese back into English instead of just taking the original English name.....?
