The Boss, who had to fight all day to beat Tails, is in second place. None of these guys have much going for them outside of Missingno's joke potential (and that's why they're here in the first place and not already in the contest).

And, really, if Missingno follows traditional joke patterns or even muted ones, he's not going to look terribly impressive. If 15-20% of Gamefaqs is going to vote for a joke in a poll with no actual popular options, that doesn't really bode well for joke characters. Plus it's hard to imagine a format that's nicer to them than fourways, and they aren't getting it.

I do think Missingno has serious potential to at least be stronger than L-Block and maybe even stronger than Pikachu. It is getting nearly 20% in a twelve-way, which can't be an easy feat.

I'm too tired to do a math, but what would 20% in a twelve-way be equivalent to in a four-way? Just eliminating all but just four characters, preferably four separate fanbases, and just distributing the votes of the rest between them equally, except giving a larger portion to the SFFers, like Missingno getting a larger portion of Jiggly's and Mudkip's votes.

A lot of work, but if you really want to make comparisons with this poll, this could give us something to talk about.

And I don't think anyone is taking anything from this poll, but the Missingno/Megaman comparison is fun to make.

I think seeing Yoshimitsus performance here shows us its not worth rallying him in the NRT, for one.

I would take Raiden, Scorpion, Mudkip and probably Axel over her in a match.

It's just a completely different format. To use Missingno/Axel as an example again, Missingno could end up 60/40 against Axel and still lose to him in a real contest match.

not much else to say here though, besides the fact that Lightning's name means more than established franchise guys like Toad and Yoshimitsu, and besides MGS3 > MGS2 being confirmed.

I wouldn't take Raiden (barely beat Kain, to say nothing of the second round match), though I'd take Axel if he beats her (which he probably will), but it seems quite probable that KH second tier has lost a step (see Riku, Roxas). Scorpion, yeah, but still, these guys are weak.

Is Prototype really relevant, though? It fell by the wayside and isn't that remembered even months later, plus wasn't it overshadowed on its release by Infamous anyway?

It's certainly no Modern Warfare 2. Hell, I probably wouldn't even choose Prototype over Scribblenauts over here. Can't imagine its characters doing anything compared to someone like Kratos or even Nathan ****ing Drake.

It isn't 'Character Battle Whatever', it's 'Who Do You Want To See In The Next Character Battle'. There is a difference.

Crazy stuff- Let's analyze today's options in terms of what seed I had projected for them.

# Raiden (Metal Gear Solid) - #7 seed
# Jigglypuff (Pokemon) - #8 seed
# Dan Hibiki (Street Fighter) - #11 seed
# Yoshimitsu (Tekken) - #11 seed
# Scorpion (Mortal Kombat) - #11 seed
# Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) - NOT LISTED (really? could have sworn I put her in...)
# Axel (Kingdom Hearts) - NOT LISTED
# The Boss (Metal Gear Solid) - NOT LISTED
# Missingno (Pokemon) - NOT LISTED
# Mudkip (Pokemon) - NOT LISTED
# Toad (Super Mario Bros. 2) - NOT LISTED
# Alex Mercer (Prototype) - NOT LISTED

Raiden barely missed the cut in 2006 (probably just because of the Female Bracket), was a 7 seed in '07, and made it in last year as an 8 seed. Scorpion was close in '06, and a #12 and #11 the past two years. Jiggly, Dan, and Yoshi all had very nice rallies on this board in a year with less than half the number of nominations from non-board members.

In short, I don't see how we could be looking at a 128 character bracket this season, as all of those options strike me much moreso as entrants who would be on the bubble in a 64 character setting.

If THAT'S the case, then I think we have to throw out tag team battles as a legit option, since there's no way we'd have only 32 teams. We would also have to throw out 4ways that become 1v1s later in the bracket and a six person at a time "royal rumble" where the top three vote getters each day are kicked out.

And since strict 1v1 isn't an option, that leaves us with... I don't know!

Dare I hope? Maybe SBAllen decided his new format wasn't so great after all and decided to give us 1v1s?

UNLESS we're looking at something like 4 days of Play-In matches, with the Top Four advancing into the bracket each day. So voters would be deciding the final 16 spots, with the top 112 having already been locked in to their positions.

Still, that would mean Raiden fell from a 7/8 to a #15, all our rallies were junk, and no one cares about Lightning, which doesn't seem to be the case based on the current poll result. Also, if we're getting 4 days of these polls, with different options every time, how could SB possibly have thought throwing in 3 Pokemon at once was a good idea? Not to mention the MGS overlap. Surely the guy couldn't that THAT oblivious to SFF?

This is nutty.

I'm not going to take a lot from this strength-wise, but I will say I feel bad for supporting Yoshimitsu for years. Dan Hibiki is beating him. Jiggly (who I'm disappointed in too, but could see doing better in a contest match) is beating him despite two other Pokemon and Toad. He's a newcomer so he doesn't have that veteran-excuse like half the poll does. I'll cut him some slack and acknowledge this poll isn't the final decision in contest-strength, but damn.

It also scares me that Dan, Jiggly, and Yoshimitsu -- three characters that were in our top ten board nominations -- are in this poll. The other seven -- Prinny, Charizard, Ken, Red, Cid, Doc, and Darth Revan -- aren't exactly safe if SB brings in more polls like this. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but yeesh...

...sure hope Doc's safe, at least...!
