From: charmander6000 | #351 It'll be interesting to see what kinda nominations we get with lower nomination totals. Maybe people will even not nominate some heavy hitters due to "Oh, they'll get in anyway" --- http://card.mygamercard.net/nxe/Albion+Hero.png Nominate Vault Boy! |

At this rate, we could get up to around 60k. Also, votals on this poll suck. Only 580 votes at the freeze. And an extra 459 on the second update. the way guys, notice today's poll about the Character Battle has an

Sweet, Bacon's speeding this thing up. No point in having nominations lasting more than a couple of weeks on the front page. Plus this way the bracket may come out quicker than with nearly four times as many nominations. Small increase from last year! At the board vote, anyway. By the end of this poll, it will probably end up at around the same that we had last year. The fourth option went berserk in the first 2 updates after the freeze. Percentage of votes per update for each option: 0:05 | 6.90% | 12.93% | 9.48% | 37.93% | 32.76% 0:10 | 4.58% | 11.11% | 7.19% | 42.92% | 34.20% 0:15 | 5.71% | 9.29% | 7.86% | 47.86% | 29.29% 0:20 | 4.60% | 13.08% | 7.26% | 42.62% | 32.45% I don't know what happened at 0:15, but that fourth option almost pulled in 48% of the votes. If it keeps this up, the final percentage for that option will be pretty close to what we had last year. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

I'd
rather have a longer bracket period than a longer nomination period.
Nomination period is nothing but "Nominate X!" topics, but when the
bracket comes out, that's when the real fun begins between all the
match discussion and all the various topics like Guru, Betting, Oracle,
and the unintentionally hilarious Analysis Crew write-ups that I might
actually start reading more of. --- Not Wylvane |

I
agree, but then we'll also start the "man, there's nothing left to talk
about, start the contest already" talk by New Year's if the bracket
comes up immediately after nominations close. I still prefer actually
having something to debate and predict though, and the sooner we get to
praise or hate this new format the better. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

while waiting for the new contest, weve exhausted all the debates on

I'm
glad to see their vote totals have picked up all around. Their least
popular poll is Psychonauts/SotC, and that's still pulling in 1,552
votes with a day to spare. That's still nothing compared to our
standards and nothing we can take very seriously, but that's also a big
change from their most popular R2-poll having only 933 votes. Maybe the
following rounds will improve even more. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

Each time the round changes, an update is posted to Digg, so that probably has something to do with it. Only time I've seen Digg have a story on a GameFAQs contest was to rally L-Block in the 2007 semifinals, though it was posted so late it pretty much applied for the finals instead. --- Not Wylvane |

Update. Highlights: -Prinny has more nominations than Altair ever did, proving that B8 would rather nominate a side character from Disgaea than the main character of a game than sold millions. -At this rate, Godot is going to pass Trite. stuff like prinny is understandable and sometimes people try to emulate

I mean, if I like a character, the last thing I would want to see is how badly he would get his ass kicked in a contest. I really do not understand nominating more "joke" characters, either. None of them will be as recognizable or have the same iconic status that the L-Block has. I voted for L-Block every time in the 2007 contest, not because it was funny or anything, but because I genuinely liked L-Block and Tetris. |

I cannot understand why there are so many rallies for characters that are definite fodder. We're at the point where besides new characters or Final Fantasy VII all that is left are fodder or low mid-carders. Also before NRT there weren't as many big rallies though the ones that did form got their characters in. Major failed rallies: Seifer Raiden Diddy Kong Midgar Zolom Charizard Nightmare Gilgamesh Jay Solano There were also some years where characters got a decent backing by some people on the board and were kind of forgotten afterwards. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/BGE2%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Krahenprophet for winning the guru contest |

contest, not because it was funny or anything, but because I genuinely
liked L-Block and Tetris. I nominated L-Block because I want to see what it can do in this new format. I also nominated ? Block, since it's going to be pretty strong for a joke character (as it defeated L-Block in a bonus match). I also nominated Weighted Companion Cube to give it another chance to be in a contest (it has only been in one contest and L-Block has been in two). And then there Goomba, which I nominated just because someone decided to make an attempt at a nomination rally for Goomba. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as KrahenProphet, Guru Champ! |

"mid-carders." I have to say, I always find it kind of funny when people use wrestling lingo outside of wrestling. I mean, are we calling a character in this tournament a midcarder because... they tend to have fights in the middle of card? But that doesn't make sense in the context... =P That said, I totally mark out for Solid Snake. --- One Piece: Pirates with style! -= Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action =- |

I
was all about L-Block when he won his first match, but his charm wore
off more and more as he won more matches and started going nuts. I
think I'm like that with most joke-characters I like; I don't like
seeing them do TOO well and affecting the major parts of the contest,
but they provide good fun for a match or two and it's funny to see who
can lose to them more than anything else. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

Most
people know by now I have no problems with joke characters, and L-Block
beating Link was something GameFAQs long needed. It's clear L-Block or
any other joke will never win another contest, though they have a loyal
enough fanbase that they have actual character strength. So if
anything, joke characters are our best shot these days of nominating
characters with strength, along with nominating icons like Goomba,
Vault Boy, and Boco that represent their series more than establish
themselves as actual characters. That or clones like Toon Link and Mega Man X. Which reminds me, I still have time to nominate Toon Link! --- Not Wylvane |
