A
tag team format that LOOKS just like a 4-way, but we add together the
votes at the end? Well now... that I hadn't thought of. It would
certainly be more fun to follow, since there's almost always something
worth keeping an eye on in a 4way match, but I worry that it would be
too confusing for the casual fan. As in... yes, you saw on the results page that Link beat Cloud by 7000 votes, but because Tingle got destroyed by Raiden, Cloud is your Character Battle Champ! If
it's clear to the voters what is going on, it'll be treated pretty much
the same as an actual tag team contest. If it's not, the voters who
don't find out what is really going on until after they vote will feel
tricked (and rightfully so). It's interesting from our point of view,
but I don't think it's fair to those voters. --- Link he come to town to dominate all other characters and trample them down with his sword of more votes. |

the
reason i thought of that individual voting format is it would give us
very interesting results. Any elite who got put with a 14, 15, 16 seed
would be pretty handicapped. Here's an example of a possible match from Ngamer's bracket 3. Leon Kennedy + 14. Captain Falcon vs 1. Samus + 16. Geno you have a near elite and a midcarder vs. a noble nine and mid fodder. But it's obviously going to go Samus > Leon > Falcon > Geno in votals. Will Samus + Geno equal at least 50% of the vote? it would be a lot closer than if only team voting existed. 1. Link + 16. Eddie Riggs 6. Zero + 11. Knuckles here's another match that would be very debatable with individual votals. --- I used to have a good sig. Now my account is only a shadow of its former glory. |

red sox 777 | Posted 12/7/2009 4:31:02 PM | message detail |
I
think you're underestimating Link a bit there. In 2007 he beat Crono +
Vincent combined even with Zero handicapping him a bit. Granted that
was at the height of Nintendo power and Crono was at his weakest point
ever, but still.....just adding individual votes, it'll take at least 2
near-elites, and possibly more strength than that, to challenge Link +
utter fodder. How many characters can avoid a doubling from Link? Cloud Sephiroth Snake Crono (if CTDS gave him a decent boost) Mario (though Link got pretty close to it last year) Then we have characters who can possibly resist the doubling.... Vincent Squall Auron Sora I would not feel good taking the top of that group of near elites to avoid the doubling, and I'd feel pretty confident in Link getting the doubling against the bottom of that group. --- Link he come to town to dominate all other characters and trample them down with his sword of more votes. |
red sox 777 | Posted 12/7/2009 4:33:48 PM | message detail |
Actually,
it's even better for Link than I thought, because of that list, only
Snake and Mario aren't from Square. 2 Square characters will hurt each
other, so you'd need them to average out to doing better than getting
doubled individually. Nintendo characters of course get SFF-hammer'd. --- Link he come to town to dominate all other characters and trample them down with his sword of more votes. |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 12/7/2009 4:36:36 PM | message detail |
Link
isn't losing any team-based format. If we start partnering other elites
and Noble 9ers just to take a crack at him, the format's potential is
already lost. Far better to just stick with 4ways and give Mario or
Samus a clear shot to the finals. --- Yoblazer: http://i44.tinypic.com/5nw45i.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |
PiGuy96 | Posted 12/7/2009 4:42:44 PM | message detail |
Look
at the Battle Royale for a pretty instructive example - Link got 45% in
Link/Cloud/Snake and 43% in Link/Cloud/Snake/Sephiroth. Give Link
anyone who isn't completely worthless in that threeway match and the
combined votes of Link and new guy win, and that's against pretty much
the best competition you could hope for. Tag teams, however, have the potential to play out differently. But it would definitely take a very favorable partner for Cloud to stand a chance against Link. --- RPGuy netbook remix |
KanzarisKelshen | Posted 12/7/2009 4:44:06 PM | message detail |

the bare minimum I'd take to defeat Link would be Mario/Snake, and

I
wish SB would release a list of all nominations totals so we could see
how that works... i imagine that for our puny 40-60 nom characters to

The full list of characters that were nominated would be several hundred, if not over 1000. If you want to, you could try asking this for Ask GameFAQs here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/feedback/index.php?type=23 I would ask about the following stuff: Total number of nominations and how many of them were actually valid (nominations that weren't later deleted or invalid due to the use of multiple accounts). HaRRicH | Posted 12/7/2009 6:11:32 PM | message detail |
Yeah,
the Noble Niners have to get tons of nominations. It's only natural
though -- they're the strongest in the contests every year, are from
the biggest games, and are some of the easiest characters to think of.
Notice that more than twice as many people from the nomination-poll the
other day said they nominated several of their favorites instead of
saying they used all of their nominations. Who are those people more
likely to pick? The Noble Nine. Think about how little support Noble
Niners usually get on Board 8 every year, yet how good of a position
they usually get in the four-ways (and how high they're seeded in
CJay's contests). We don't back them because we know they're gonna get
the most nominations anyway. It is weird how few nominations it takes for some characters though, percentage-wise. Take Nana from last year...there was probably next to no support off of Board 8 for her and she only had twenty-two nominations from this board, yet she still made it in somehow when over 200,000 nominations were cast. That's ~0.00011% of the nominations. **** is crazy sometimes. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |

I
don't think SB will be giving much information on that stuff -- neither
he nor CJay ever really have. Still, I sent a question asking for just
a little bit of info: who the most nominated character is and how many
that character got. If we can get more info, great, but I'm doubting it
so I'm shootin' for that piece. --- Please nominate DOC LOUIS from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! T E A M C H O C O L A T E |
